Yep. LATE SIXTIES= almost seventies, she was saying she lived a "full life" great woman she is to have (still is aging)incredibly. thelma/bernadette has truly age so gracefully, beautifully, and she was bound to, since her teen-child years, on television. she look great... Always a fan of GOOD TIMES, still am. (born almost 1990) my older sisters born early 70s, and late seventies, we all still watch. peace. #lovegoodtimes

As a white, middle class boy growing up in the ‘70’s, this was one of my favorite TV shows and Thelma was one of the first women I remember having a major crush on. I also remember my parents being concerned that I was attracted to a black woman, but I didn’t care. She was beautiful and that is all that mattered to me.

But likely didn’t pay them any extra cheese for essentially writing (all of the actors) and co-directing (Esther Rolle) the show. I still give Norman Lear credit for trying to make America deal with race, politics and economics. Media titans like him, comic legend Stan Lee and others tried to do their part(s).

@jlomesou
@jlomesou 2 жыл бұрын
I agree Mary. The stories of racism for many Americans comes from TV, Movies or History books, but rarely from someone we know and like. Hearing about these things from friends and even from celebrities we admire, adds a heavier level of impact. African Americans have the advantage of hearing these events from their grandparents and siblings and friends, so they learn quicker about the heartbreak of racism. Many white people don’t get that early advantage. What many do get from their grandparents, siblings and friends are racist behaviors, many of which they are unaware of as being racist. This is going to sound crazy and unrealistic but the one avenue left to humanity to cripple racism is for white kids to be raised by black parents and black kids to be raised by white parents. When people invest their emotion into bonding with babies and later kids and teens, we’ll stop noticing the exterior and start seeing the interior. After a few generations of that, would racism be as big a thing in the future as it is today?

No, it is not shallow. Sure, age does naturally wreak havoc on many people, but there are also people who do not give a damn and simply let themselves go. And the fact that so many of them are celebrities who have the money and the resources to keep themselves looking good, but do not bother? Or who go the other way and have all that crazy plastic surgery that makes them turn out looking like goblins? No excuses.

Ms. Bern nadette Stanis is very gracious. Good for her. Esther Rolle was a wonderful actress and an excellent role model. She was my favorite from the show along with her husband John Amos. Their portrayals were so true to life. Ms. Stanis learned from the best. I still watch Good Times the re-runs.

MrSteven2945 Are you kidding? Queen Latifah from the show "Living Single" went on to success in Films,TV and stage winning a Tony and an Emmy. Queen played in the blockbuster "All That Jazz" remake starred in the TV production of "Bessie Smith for HBO, Set it Off and more. Kim Fields was a star even BEFORE she did that show and was cast in a few productions even though she's doing reality TV now. Erica Alexander did TV and stage. The cast of Living Single did alright. John Amos from "Good Times" had a decent career after the show. At least during the '80's & early 90's he had roles in action flicks. Esther Rolle had bit parts on short-lived TV shows. But the kids of Good Times kind of faded during their prime. Stanis is old now. Singers get roles headlining movies you'd think TV stars could do the same.
