I think, that every person who disliked her as Rose judged her by her "Rose's turn". Well, they're should have judge her by her "Some people", COUSE SHE SINGS THIS SONG PERFECTLY.

My personal feeling is that the vast majority of people who disliked her Rose weren't open to such a drastic reinterpretation of the character, especially in terms of her vulnerability and girlishness. That being said, I saw Peters five or six times in the show and her performance was inconsistent. There were nights she was BRILLIANT--perhaps even an all-time best--and there were nights (a minority of them) that she was very sloppy, going up on lyrics and dialogue and struggling to sing the score without cracking.

@@dannyvincent7831 well, i think you're right - for example, when Linda Lavin replaced Tyne Daly in 2nd Revival she was panned by critics for her performance, because her portrayal was very different from Ethel/Tyne/Angela... Also, you're lucky, that you saw her!

@@wickedfan811, that's a great point--and also somewhat funny because my favorite two Roses are probably Linda and Bernadette!

@@dannyvincent7831 same here! But i also love Daly and Roz Russel (from 1962 movie)!

@@wickedfan811, yes, Daly was BRILLIANT (as was Imelda Staunton). It's an embarrassment of Roses!

It´s the wrong number for a lyric singer. Her voice lacks colour and power.

With all due respect to Bernadette Peters, who is very good, I prefer Imelda Staunton
