I was a close friend of Bernard for over 40 years. He was a great comic who just wanted to make people laugh. His wife, Vera, was a lovely Lady. I used to join them for afternoon tea at their home. He would open the door in his underpants but never used any bad language. We also joined him on holiday in Newquay. Wonderful memories.

Absolute legend was Bernard I saw him four times 👌 he was a lovely man and like he said it’s an act and there just jokes never ever take a joke seriously, a lot of people didn’t like him because he told the Truth and well some people just don’t like that do they, but he was an absolute legend did more for charity in his own lifetime that millions of others couldn’t have done collectively and not many people mention that do they! God Bless ya Bernard you are very very badly missed 🙏💙🙏 great video this thanks for uploading ✊

Unfortunately I never had the pleasure to see Bernard live but do love his material a true one off he was, I seen the beyond the grave footage very moving when he talks about his mum bless him he had a big heart, would of been honored to have met him he was a good man, he did indeed do lots for charity but never got the recognition he should of. He done full circle had the Embassy done Vegas, royal variety, drove a Rolls he accomplished in life what he wanted how he wanted never took life too seriously & spent his life making people laugh R.I.P Bernard your Legend lives on, one of the true greats 👏 ❤

Hi Alan. I’ve just subscribed. I saw Bernard live three times, total hero! The last time i saw him, he had played near Manchester the night before, and tripped over the mike lead and fallen off the stage. His face was all bruised, and he could only use one hand, but he travelled to entertain us. Real trooper. On a side note, Colin Crompton used to run a pub near me too, the “Antrobus Arms”. I went in a few months after he died, and there were photos of him and Bernard etc covering all the walls. 👍

Very funny man, and as you say it was all an act, did his bit for charity as well, we used to go to his club once a month at the height of his success, his spot was generally earlyish, as he would generally have a late engagement at some other venue, his place was always lively with some decent acts, he would generally do an hour or so, they were lovely nights, his place was always full every weekend.

My mum was a teacher in Oldham in the late 80s. She helped take the kids to a local roller rink one day. Mum hadn't skated for years and was practising at the side using the rails. This small broad man in a vest appeared with a mop and bucket and he told her to fall on him as he was soft. Only later did she realize it was Bernard Manning and he owned the rink!

Yes he was all right, was helping a friend with a stone fireplace on a Saturday morning and Bernard came to the front door and said don’t make any noise I’m just going to bed ; I said ok so I got the cement mixer out turned it on and put a couple of bricks in it and used a mixing board, he never came back out. We finished at 4pm , if he had just said good morning 😂😂.

I remember seeing one where he picked on a minority gentleman. Shall we say and the organisers got angry with him but he faced him head on and said I made jokes about everybody. Nobody is out of bounds. That's what makes it ok. I believe this is kind of true. There wasn't any body. It was safe which was kind of nice. good film - my mam and dad were cremated there - there's only one test of a comedian - does he/she/it/they etc make you laugh or not? And his old performances on youtube certainly make me laugh! He was brilliant. Also for any non-North Mancs - 'Blackley' is pronounced 'blake-lee', not 'blackly'. My auntie Lil who lived next door to us in Crumpsall told us they caught a German spy because he pronounced it wrong. Ha. Who knows?
