I remember Mike Read in both the Comedians and Eastenders, although not a fan of either series. I met Mike Reid a few times at the BBC when I worked there and as a film extra . Seemed a nice chap. I think he will be remembered more for his Role as Frank Butcher than anything else. Cheers

Hello John, yes, I think he was a fairly good down to earth guy. They're done all the hard work before he became famous and I was an extra too. We'll have to exchange stories one day. Thank you for the great comment. Alan

@@MotorHomeBeepBeep Yes he was pretty grounded guy. I did Eastenders quite a bit as an extra and he seemed pretty ok. Yes met quite a few well known people some big some not so but very interesting time in my life. Yes we definitely could exchange some stories for sure as you know, you certainly see things from a different perspective as an extra . That sounds good we probably have had similar experiences although meeting different , or not , individuals. Cheers Alan

Hi Alan, loved this one. Mike Reid had an interesting life. The church was really nice, lovely stained glass. Before he became a comedian he was a gangland criminal. He was involved in gang crimes and knew the Krays. He was imprisoned in Brixton prison for his crimes. He went on to completely change his life. What a varied life. Two wives. One of his twin boys took his own life and his grand daughter died of cot death. He had some tragic times and work helped his grief. Dying at 67 is too young. He died in Spain of a heart attack. He had been a heavy smoker all of his life. I enjoyed his comedy and his acting and his presenting. He was proper working class. Was good to see his grave. Thanks Alan, very well filmed as usual.

Wow, Joan, that was amazing. I never knew all that about him. Sounds like it might be a good autobiography to read, the people that have let's say colourful life are the most interesting. I know a lady that loves Gregory Peck but the book wasn't that good even though he was a good man. It's always great when they've come back from the bad side to the good side. Sounds like he was not a man to mess with in real life. It was a proper geezer. I'd like to have spoken with him, I bet he had a wealth of knowledge on life. Thank you for the lovely comment as always. CU Soon Alan

I remember him on the shows that made him famous. Was in in the comedians by any chance. I've watched him in many TV shows but mainly East Enders him and pat butcher were funny never forget the time he knocked on her door with just a swivelling bow tie. Yes a great actor. Thanks again for sharing love from Gill Holmfirth West Yorkshire ❤️

Hello Gill even I never watch Mike on EastEnders much but.I remember the swiveling bow tie. Mike was basically a great comedian originally a stuntman which is the opposite in the background but all-around grafter a deserved the success he got. It's a pity he. didn't live long. Always it's always great to see you and I'll see you one day in West Yorkshire. I'm missing it. I've been in London for 2 months! I prefer my homeland see you later. Alan

Mike also held a world (I think) record for the longest stand up comedy act, he did something bonkers like 24 hours. A close family friend of ours was one of the OG cast members - I won’t name drop, it’s not a big deal - and he worked for years on Enders… Never usually had a good word to say about his colleagues but he thought Mike was a proper gent and thoroughly enjoyed working with him. Also Mike was humble enough to accept constructive criticism in his early days of working on set, because of course he was a comic and not an actor but he was very much admired by the whole cast for being a perfectionist and took to acting like a duck to water. Because Enders was such a depressing soap (don’t know if it still is, I stopped watching it after our friend left) it made for a very tense atmosphere at times and sometimes the strain of working to a deadline meant the cast and crew sometimes clashed but Mike could break the tension with his larger than life personality. I wish I had met him but I never did, he sounded like a great guy. Almost all of the older OG cast members from 1985 are sadly no longer with us, including my family friend 😢

Personally, I haven't seen you cover the grave site of your esteemed friend and employer, Sir Roger Moore I aware he's out in Switzerland if I'm not mistaken? But of all the people you've covered, you've mentioned Roger several times. So I believe it's about time you paid your respect.
@MotorHomeBeepBeep Жыл бұрын
Hello Stewart Roger wasn't my employee, I gave my services free to highlight primarily his work for unicef as a special ambassador. I did the work for over 20 years and the only thing I actually received was invitations to events were Roger attended. Roger actually gave me the rights to his official website and allowed me to monetize it but I never did. I shall do his grave one day but this is a hobby I do for pleasure and to remember the people so it has to be when it's possible for me to do it I have a busy life. I appreciate your thoughts for Roger. Regards, Alan
