we've all heard the rags to riches stories before but this guy really brought himself out of a grimey, no-win situation and made it. this is inspiring stuff man.

massive respect for bernard, not only for his boxing ability (still going into his 40's!!) but also for turning his life around the way he has. also not a volatile guy if this documerntry is anything to go by. i know how hard it is to turn your life around, livin in a deprived area and tough upbringin.

The rocking thing he talks about is true. My dad was a C/O at SCI Waymart(Farview) in PA. He used to bitch at me if I was ever sitting next to him and started to rock. "THe fucking nuts in Farview and Grateford rock...don't do that!"

If Bernard fights Joe, win or lose, that's a ballsy proposition after being at the elite level so late in his career. The fact that one of the biggest money fights Joe can make at this time, and the biggest star in terms of momentum he can match with is a guy in his 40s says a lot about Bernard.
@Lakers03216 жыл бұрын
yeah he does remind me of the game by his voice but whenever I look at him I think of DMX.

Glen Johnson, Antwon Echols. Both were undefeated and were fearsome players at the time.

Now B-Hop wears expensive Armanis and applauds and shakes hands and holds up arms and smiles. It's a far cry from these halcyon days.

You're absolutely right.. His punch-output and awkward style are his best friends.. Hopkins's defence and superior defence nullifies both.. Also, the division and location are in Hopkins favor! I'd like to see Calzaghe throw a 1000 punches a round at LightHeavy..

If Floyd and Bernard were to retire tomorrow, there's no way Floyd's career is as impressive as Bernard's. Bernard has a lot less physical gifts, but fought and won into his 40s.

@@paulturndupschmidt5563 You’re welcome. I’d word what I said differently today. Both guys accomplished in ways neither would be able to do and ways no one will again for a long time if ever. Floyd could never win a title at 49 and Bernard obviously could not go his career without losing.

If he fights Joe, win or lose, will you give him respect? I thought he could get knocked out by Jermain and Tarver, and he arguably beat both of them. The man is a wonder.

That's not what happened with Segundo Mercado... that first fight was a robbery, Mercado should've won. The second one was a clear victory for B-Hop, but the reason why Mercado disappeared had nothing to do with how "Hopkins breaks them down". What happened was Mercado got into a confrontation with cops in his country, and they beat him up badly and gave him brain damage so he had to hang up his gloves.

That's bullshit. Bernard had a substantial career, all the more impressive that he did it late. You mention Tito and Oscar, but until Roy fights Tito, Bernard is the only one to stop both of them. That's nothing to shirk at. We gave credit to Hagler for beating or fighting Tommy and Ray, right?
