Thanks Stephan! As a blue belt I've only learned a handful of setups for this pass, and I think with practice this one could be very useful. Always love watching your videos!

I've been playing this pass for a couple of years. It's great for an older guy to shut down the mobility of the younger guns. I really like the kneebar he does from here. I have stolen some nuances from both Bernardo and Murilo which have really helped.

After 4:00, what's stopping the bottom guy from using his right hand to push Bernardo's head under his right leg, thus setting up a triangle?
@ndaking9 жыл бұрын
123beyond123 ; the guy at the bottom has got his left leg trapped which effetcively stops him from setting up the triangle.

Nicholas King Maybe I'm missing it, but the top guy's hand holding the leg is down near the hip and will have little leverage over a leg. Pushing their head while lifting your own leg seems like it should result in trapping their head/arm. It also looks like if you're the top guy keeping your chin tight against the hip would help prevent this(?).

I would think that Bernardos left knee and hip is trapping the bottom guys left leg thus preventing the triangle.

I like this kind of guard break, but I am always worried that I will get swept if they grab both my ankles. How can you avoid getting swept?

Mordo Riggs Stagger your stance? if you put a ton of weight on the front foot, it makes it hard for your opponent to pull it for the sweep

Mordo Riggs Look to the Stephan Kesting reply to another user: "It's similar to Marcelo Garcia's approach to passing closed guard: he doesn't have hand control either. I think a lot of it comes from knowing what the most likely reaction (double ankle grab) is going to be and countering it with weight distribution. That and pushing the leg all the way down to the floor as fast as possible."

Push your hips forward in that stance and the weight distribution will make it very hard to sweep you

Any idea when the DVD is coming out? I've been on the tip of my toes since he mentioned it a month ago. Thanks for the video Stephan! Always enjoy your content.

I dont like his wat of passing, not arm control and ankles too close to his hands. It wont work on someone who knows how to defence

This guy passed some of the bests guards of the history.

Instead of thinking you know better than a world champion, try to learn how he manage to do it without arm control. If he can do it, then there is a way and i want to learn how it is done
