your dogs are beautiful - i recently lost my berner Harley to brain cancer after only 8 years together - sounds like a long time but it went by so fast and I miss her very much. They are such wonderful dogs who just want to "be" with their people. I loved the guy who decided he needed a little more attention so he captured a shoe and held it hostage - such a berner thing to do. thanks for giving them such a great home.

I'm so sorry about your Harley dog, we have a berner named Harley too! He's 140 pounds and not over weight at all!! We just lost his mate, Baby Bear to lymphoma cancer :( but we have Harley, thier son Bleu, Ulla from Hungary and Retro from Lithuania now. We are in the process of getting a puppy from Romania soon too! Her name will be Charming Baby Bear in honor of my girl we just lost, we'll call her Charm

@@48Drummer I am truly sorry for your loss. It's never long enough no matter how old they reach. But, when we lose our big hairy loves at just 7, and 8 years old it just tears a piece of our hearts out. We never did get that pup from Romania but ended up with a dream pup from Spain instead. We now have 5 berners again. It's a lot but we love it. There is just no other breed of dog like the Bernese, with all the love they have to offer. I know your hearts will heal and there will be a new friend to fill that emptiness one day. Until then I'll be saying a prayer for comfort for you and your family. Again I am so very sorry for the loss of your beloved Bernice, may she be content and running free at the Rainbow Bridge until you are reunited one day.

@@777STACEE Yes, our bernice and our daughter shared the same room every night for 8.5 years, like clockwork.....my dau is so heartbroke. ive never gone through anything like that at a vets office and to say our goodbyes,,,im sure i will heal but right now it seems like it never will.....thank you for your warming reply...

We adopted a 100 lb, five year old female rescue Berner......who stole our hearts with affection and love.....she was standoffish at first but came to trust us and loved to sit with us, cuddle up and follow us around.....we would tell her it was bedtime and she would perk up her ears and then canter her head to one side.....then go upstairs on her own and settle alongside our bed. She was there all night and would greet us in the morning......our son had a younger male Berner, about 75 lbs....and when he came to our house, he'd run through to our back door to go out, but our female Berner would assert her "seniority" (and her larger size) and football-shoulder him to one side to get him out of her way so she could get out to the backyard before he could.......he realized that she was his pack senior and would follow her around like he was her puppy.....we loved them both a great deal, until God recalled them to join his pack.......we were shattered when our girl left us and even more so when my sons Berner left too......we are awaiting our reunion in the months ahead.....a finer breed of mountain dog there is not.......

I had a friend who had a 75 lb. Malamute mix who was a bit reserved with strangers but once he got to know you, you were one of his litter. He would sometimes climb on your lap, very slowly (as if he thought you wouldn't notice!). It was nice that he felt so much affection, but you'd have to push him off after abt 2 mins. 'cause it was hard to breathe! The other funny thing he did was "hold hands"; he liked to sit facing you, and would put one paw on your knee or hand, and he'd just sit that way for several minutes at a time. Maybe he was claiming us as one of his "pack"?

Marisa Abrudsky Idek if you’ll see this as it was four years ago and you may have already got one or be disinterested ; but Bernese are NOT good in heat. In can kill them super easily. They have super thick coats and are large breeds; they love winter and snow and your house needs to be like 65° at all times which some people hate. Also I don’t know if I’d get one with Maltese’s ... it might hurt them. Not out of anger but a huge dog and small dogs don’t mix. They could be best friends but even when a Bernese is a puppy it could stomp and hurt one, all puppies pounce on dogs in the household out of playfulness for up to a year and more, and even at a few months that’d be enough to hurt a Maltese.

Same thing, our Bernese Mountain dogs were lap dogs too. We kept weighting the first one until he weighted 65 kilos and no-one could lift him up any more. However, sitting in a lap they get too hot, and they want to find a cooler place soon.
