"The first time I ever really listened to Kyle Kulinski’s show was in the back of a cab last summer. The driver had his phone hooked up through the stereo and was pumping out an episode through the car speakers - loudly, as if looking to convert a captive audience.
“Do you like Kyle Kulinski?”
The driver, Ahmed, was a recent immigrant and apparently a die-hard fan of Secular Talk, the political talk show that Kulinski broadcasts on KZbin. I told him, yes, in fact. I do like Kulinski, had come across his show several years ago, and, all things considered, he seemed pretty good.
“He understands what we’re up against,” Ahmed said. “Like Bernie.”
But I was surprised to hear Kulinski’s name mentioned in the same breath as Bernie Sanders, particularly with such adoration. Because what I did remember about Kulinski’s show struck me as mostly capital-P “progressive” takes on the news - the left wing of the Netroots crowd more than the democratic socialism Sanders has popularized.
It’s an impression that wasn’t entirely incorrect.
“I have no time for philosophical, airy bullshit,” Kulinski tells me from his home in Westchester, New York. “I don’t want to hear about Lenin. I don’t want to hear about Marx. I just want a super plainspoken, straightforward agenda with a straightforward way of selling it.”
With over 800,000 subscribers and nearly 670 million total views on KZbin, selling a progressive agenda is clearly something Kulinski knows how to do - even Democracy Now, the long-standing flagship of progressive media, cannot match his reach on the platform. Chapo Trap House can certainly boast a wildly devoted fan base (and a not insignificant degree of media influence), but their audience is roughly half the size of Kulinski’s.
While Secular Talk might be more likely to be looped in with the progressive networks around Air America and Pacifica alums like Sam Seder than the more resolutely socialist world, Kulinski’s fiery rhetoric, razor-sharp class instincts, and knack for withering takedowns sets him apart from his peers. Judging by his rhetoric alone, he’s closer to a Eugene Debs than a Chris Hayes.
But unlike Hayes, Amy Goodman, or his friend Cenk Uygur of The Young Turks - who began airing Secular Talk on his web network seven years ago - the thirty-two-year-old Kulinski is virtually invisible in the mainstream media. Despite his enormous fan base, his show has never once been mentioned in the obligatory trend pieces on “the Millennial Left” pumped out by the prestige media. Nor has Kulinski’s name ever popped up at all in the New York Times, Vox, the New Yorker, New York Magazine, or the Washington Post, despite his leading role in cofounding Justice Democrats, the organization widely credited with sweeping Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the rest of “the Squad” to power.
Just last week, his Wikipedia page was deleted. The reason? “There is very simply no [reliable source] coverage of this person,” according to one moderator. In new media, he’s king - the Sean Hannity of the Berniecrat left. In old media, he’s nobody.
I suspect there are a few reasons for that. There is nothing “cool” about Kulinski’s show. (As a friend put it, “‘Welcome to Secular Talk’ sounds like something you’d hear on Egyptian radio.”) His no-nonsense social-democratic politics won’t get him much cred with the Full Communism crowd. He records his show not in Brooklyn or Los Angeles, but in a studio he built himself in his modest Westchester home. His hair is too groomed and his taste in clothes too preppy to qualify as “Dirtbag Left.” Nor has he ever attended an n+1 release party. “Not only have I not attended one,” he says, “I have no idea what that means.”
And yet he’s astonishingly plugged-in for a young man in the suburbs. Wondering how Sanders ended up on the Joe Rogan Experience? Kulinski, a frequent guest on Rogan’s wildly popular show, introduced them. “You make the most sense to me,” Rogan told Kulinski on a recent episode. “You’re a normal person.”
Much like Sanders himself, Kulinski’s show has a massive audience that just doesn’t compute with our media’s understanding of “what the kids want” or even “what the left-wing kids want.”
It’s probably for the best - the very woke and very WASP-ish decorum haunting much of the media world is nowhere to be found in Secular Talk. “Corporate Democrats over-focus on identity as a trick to divert you from the issues that unite us all - class issues,” he said on a recent episode. “That Raytheon decided they don’t hate gays or trans people - frankly, I don’t really give a shit what their take on that is..."

I’m not from America, and this is the first time I’ve heard Bernie debate or speak in a while, probably since the election actually, so I’d kind of forgotten. But holy shit, how the fuck did the US drop the ball so hard on this. Literally the most common sense, fact-talking political candidate I’ve ever seen. It actually baffles me that people can listen to this guy speak and still decide against voting for him. America you really missed out with this one.

Dropped the ball twice, in 2016 and 2020, but also between the first time being rigged against him, the second time a combination of all the centrists ganging up on him and mainstream media telling everyone he is unelectable. It’s a shame.

Because when Bernie won the Nevada primary in 2020, it was very clear that he had a REAL chance of actually winning the nomination. This was NOT good news for the rest of the Democrat party who ALL take money from corporations and are corrupt. Allowing Bernie to have THAT much power would be a threat to their “gravy train.” This is why Barack Obama, the leader of these corrupt, corporate-owned “Establishment” Democrats, stepped in to organize the other candidates to drop out and get behind/endorse Joe Biden so that THEIR voters would vote for him. Elizabeth Warren was the only one who didn’t drop out to join the establishment Dems. Instead, she stayed in the race in order to keep her “Progressive” constituents, who likely would not have voted for Biden, from voting for Bernie-who would have likely been their 2nd choice.

There are many articles and pieces that show oil companies doing exactly what he's said even with oil barrels being cheaper then the market dictates. That's a major reason why gas is expensive, companies know it's being impacted and profits are still coming in at record numbers. It gets zero support from the right because it would impact their masters, Dems aren't exempt from this either.

But so long as most of them are bought and paid for, it's not going to happen. There is a very large disconnect between what the people want and what actually gets passed in congress. Obviously suddenly doing something as soon as 51% of the country decides they want it would cause issues: constant jumps to extreme positions. In an ideal system I see congress's job as an intermediary that can temper the people's "mood swings," but when the majority wants something for a decade or even decades, and it still hasn't gotten passed, something is wrong. Something is wrong, and Lindsey is right that we need to change who is in power, but that means all politicians who take corporate money, which isn't going to happen so long bribery is legal, and they have no incentive to change it.

Lindsey's strategy here was to deafen ears. Home field advantage to this audience in particular is hella efficient. That said, he was purely on defense too so nobody is going to see this debate and join the right. However, people do move right from his performance. People will radicalize further when their side in a debate appeals to their current sense of reality instead of challenging their opponent. This debate reveals 2 things we already know. 1.) Republicans do not have confidence in their policies. 2.) Bernie Sanders has confidence in Soc Dem policies.

How do you repeatedly respond with a question to a statement when the answer to your question was literally explained in the statement you're responding too? I love how Graham thinks the public's distrust of police just materialized out of nowhere and is completely unfounded. Also the comment about his avg campaign donation was 40 bucks? So what? You could get 200k in donations, 10k $10 donations and 1 $100000 donation. So the avg(mean) is about $20 but don't you think the candidate is going to be more willing to take a call and prioritize the desires of the 100k donator?

To Kyle: To reiterate and add to my earlier comment. I LOVE it when Bernie talks numbers. The figure that is repeatedly left out is how much healthcare, under our current system, will cost over 10 years. Bernie mentioned how the taxes vs private premiums weight out, but it was a monthly figure. The fear tactic by the right is to give the biggest price tag they can which is that 10 year figure. Over 90% of the big financial donors who support Republican candidates ALSO support Democratic candidates. Disney has recently been vilified by the Republican base...despite the fact that they are one of the main supporters of America First Action, a Republican Super PAC that helped fund lots of Trump-backed candidates as well as RON DESANTIS HIMSELF!!! National politics is little but a side show, a sporting event meant to pull people to one side of a pointless battle or the other so they spend so much time rooting for their team and booing the other that they don't realize that NEITHER of them is actually doing anything for them. The main differences between the parties now is that many Democrats are generally more socially progressive and in favor of the current subversion of U.S. democracy which uses spectacle and slight of hand to trick the American populous, while Republicans are more socially regressive and want a more direct form of control by completely eliminating even the *illusion* of democracy to fall in line behind a uniting strongman figure...otherwise known as fascism. There are very few people in both parties (and independents like Bernie) who ACTUALLY want to help people, and they are so quickly turned into fundraising pinatas by BOTH sides that they are no real threat to the establishment. Thing about AOC for example. If you want to hear people bad-mouthing her, just go onto any conservative website. Of course, if you get bored of their style of abuse, you can just jump over to any LIBERAL website and hear a completely new brand of hate for her. SocDem systems still operate on the exploitation of the working class but instead of their own it somewhat shifts the burden to the 3rd world. Bernie Sanders has ABANDONED of the working people with his Open Borders policies .. Congratulations, Biden Bro Kyle Kulinski, you WON.. You turned the Democrats into a Far Left party.

When Graham said the dems are in charge. Remember Kyle, Bernie said he's the longest independent senator. So I think Bernie is calling the democrats out too in his way. Bernie has always kept a decorum way of speaking. I also love how Bernie looks at Graham when addressing him. Yet Lindsey looks away. National debt? Seriously? Then why do the right keep giving tax cuts that raise that so called debt

If we want to solve our problems when it comes to the supply chain we need to make things in the US instead of making things in other countries but we can't do that as long as these ridiculous policies that the corporations implemented and wished for that is implemented by Congress. The ability to make things in the US will just become even more difficult when the corporations decide to close the businesses and then go overseas without punishment.

Bernie winning would be a foregone conclusion if this were a 1:1 with nearly any of the other Democratic senators. Against Lindsey "I'll become whatever I need to become in the moment" Graham, Bernie is might as well be the world's nicest UFC fighter about to lay a beatdown on a 7th grader.

I believe Bernie’s compassion and empathy would be a skill set to look for in any future politician considering running! Bernie won’t fix anything by himself so I believe we need more progressive attitudes in office because progressive attitudes seem to be more compassionate and empathetic! That mentality will benefit we the people and not corporate America!

Except we need someone who has sharp teeth and a spine that will stand up to the DNC which is something Bernie lacks. It's time for Bernie to retire and go live in a nursing home. He can also take his good friend Sleepy Joe with him to the nursing home after he loses in 2024.

Workers pay a 6.2% Social Security tax on their earnings until they reach $142,800 in earnings for the year." Raising the cap doesnt raise the taxation rate but allows the government to tax income OVER the set rate. millionaires and billionaires stop paying social security taxes on income after $142,800.
