Bernie Sanders' Democratic Socialism Speech at Georgetown University 11-19-15

While what Bernie said may be defined as socialism, every word he said was was simply common sense, ethical and honest. As a twenty year veteran of public service in social work in forensic mental health, what he endorses is a systems way of thinking which is the social worker's bailiwick. He CAN see the "forest for the trees." It is my prayer that what we see is what we'll get.

My Grandfather (who I never got to meet) came back from WW2 and joined FDR's Civilian Conservation Corp. He worked with the core for several years and with the money he earned and the skills he learned, bought himself land and started a farm. That farmland is still in our family, producing crops, oil and soon wind power. I say: Go Bernie!

quality of life is the essence of this speech. i don't understand why someone, anyone has to make a case for quality. people buy name brand clothes and food for what they think is quality, but everyday life, needs a case to be made for it. i just don't understand.... and furthermore i'm thinking about it, now. the platform that Bernie Sanders is campaigning on is life and the things we need to have a certain quality for your life and my life - not just to subsist but live a satisfying life - thrive. health care: in case we get sick; prescription drugs: so we can get better; free public college education: so we can know things, to keep us competitive in the world, increase and bring the gift of quality; regulate the banks, so they can't steal the money you worked so hard to save; better trade bills - not supporting bad trade deals, to keep companies in the United States - so you and me can have a job........so we can live; taking care of our planet (climate change), not only for us, but for our children and grandchildren and their children - he knows that the planet will life on and change, but we may not; stop waging wars on bad intelligence, so we can live and others can live around the world, so that innocent people can live without fear of us and our soldiers and guns and bombs, so that mothers and fathers in military service will not be sent to fight needless wars. Life. Life is the message. Bernie is about life. his whole platform is life. Let us support life by supporting Bernie Sanders for President for 2016.

+nevermindshort3 Honestly, what I see is fear. A lot of Democrats don't think Sanders could win the presidency against a Republican compared to Clinton. That is simply it. I think we need to have patience. Sanders will get the nomination and then he will win the Presidency if he gets the nomination. The GOP relies overwhelmingly on the white vote being roughly 90% of their voter base. As the GOP has alienated minorities (since the 1960s Civil Rights movement), they have flocked to the Democratic Party. In recent elections, the minority vote has been majority in favor of Democrats. All the Democrats need to win at this point is ~40% of the white vote and ~60% of the Asian/Hispanic vote and the black vote is consistently around 90% black so the desire with them is simply to get them fired up to vote...not whether to vote Dem or Rep. The Presidency will be won by Democrats as long as people show up to vote. It is that simple.

I 'highly' recommend that people should watch this. It isn't this person, but the 'goals' of this person, that matters. It is FACT- There are MILLIONS of people that are struggling to survive. To work three jobs, either to make 30-40 hours of work to earn enough money to 'probably' pay their bills, and yet, they STILL lose everything, is absolutely WRONG. What good does it do, to work yourself to death, and STILL end up on the streets? What good does it do, to find a job that refuses to allow you to work over 10 HOURS A WEEK, at $8.05 an hour, and you CANNOT survive by those means? It is time for a change. The PEOPLE want a change. Bernie Sanders will bring about that change.

+Paul Coppock He never brings it up. He's always asked about it. I'll venture a guess he was asked to speak about it here and did so mostly to clarify what it is not. I listened 30 minutes in and I heard him mention "socialist" once - and it was to point out that populist/mainstream/democratically supported programs (like social security, medicare) are tarred by idiots as "socialist". You think talking about socialism is going to be good for his campaign? Think again. The American public is still plenty brainwashed about what was and still is called "socialism". It may be a more intelligent ideology than others, but it's still an ideology and we need to get past them all.
