@ Your talking points are null and void, because every other major developed country on this planet can achieve medicare for all for less money than what the US is spending on healthcare right now. That's the truth. Here's another fact, those countries aren't communist or bullshit. Another fact is that you seemed to have ignored Bernie answering how it will be paid for. Tax on trading, payroll taxes, and income taxes. Also the phrase "thinks everything should be given to them or that the government should take care of them" is like saying I pay taxes and want nothing in return. What do we pay taxes for? When you pay high costs for insurance and then have to pay out of pocket on top of that, how is that different to taxes? When your employer is providing you with healthcare, which is part of the reason for lower wages in the US, how is that different to taxes? The US system is inefficient and overpriced compared to medicare for all systems. That's the truth. You also need to think about this from an economic view that a well educated, healthy country is going to perform stronger economically. You make it sound like when people lose their jobs and get cancer, they are freeloading off the government. This could happen to anybody and it makes sense to have safety nets in place which ultimately mean these people are more likely to stay in the workforce and contribute to the economy.

Looking more and more like the only way the dem elites can stop him is through a brokered convention, but they might not even get there. When Bernie talks about a modest tax on Wall Street speculation, he is talking about a Tobin tax. This is the name of it, so you can research it yourself if you want more info. Basically, whenever a trade is made on Wall Street, a tiny tax (usually a few cents or even fractions of a cent) is levied on that trade. Because there are millions of trades every day, this money adds up FAST, and the traders barely feel it. Additional bonus: a Tobin tax can also help prevent wild swings in the market.

Chris Whalley Bernies plans are not that Socialist, he only plans to pay for things as a collective, not making companies government owned. Kaiser and other hospitals will stay private, true socialism would make kaiser a government owned company. Things like health, and education are things that will pay for themselves in progress. When America has the healthiest and smartest people they will be more priced in the global economy. The middle class will expand as smaller companies will no longer have to pay hundreds of thousands for their employees health and having a college degree will be an extension of youth, imagine not having to grow up as fast as your parents. Being able to take as many classes before youre out in the world deciding what career to follow (WITH NO DEBT [which makes starting a business easier]) . Less pressure on highschoolers to know what they want to do in life. As a parent i would like that for my daughter.
@chriswhalley4 жыл бұрын
Benjamin Zamora, I can appreciate that he’s not talking about government ownership, for now, but once government is paying for it then it will essentially “own” it, be-it healthcare or education. At that point, there’s no functional difference between government ownership and the collective payment system. With healthcare, I’m ok with the idea of having a minimum base of healthcare services for everyone and cost controls to ensure people don’t go bankrupt from getting sick. OTOH, our leadership in healthcare/medicine innovation needs to remain intact and I’m not hearing a funding model that supports that. On the education side, I don’t believe that allowing people to take any class they want on any topic they want will automatically result in more small business creation or a better economy. I have attended college and started a business and they are vastly different things. If people want to go to school for philosophical subjects or humanities, fine, but that’s for personal satisfaction not business creation and I don’t agree with public funding of those types of courses. OTOH, I would support some type of public assistance for trade skills, vocational training, or advanced STEM courses that directly benefit our national workforce. IMO, work is the common denominator of America and if you ain’t working, you ain’t pulling your weight.
@morenitomoreno12824 жыл бұрын

Earth Florida that’s mindset right there is the problem. Explain to me why everyone ISNT entitled to get an education? We do free education from k-12, so why does it stop there? You say why take a loan if you can’t afford it, it’s because we can’t afford school. Most don’t have tens of thousands laying around. By your logic, if your poor you don’t deserve to go to school. And in my opinion it’s wrong.
@juju36874 жыл бұрын
Earth Florida and your saying WORK, but when you enter college you’re 17-18. Literally a kid, just graduating high school. Do you expect kids to really just HAVE that money? People usually don’t get there first job until 15-16, are they just suppose to save thousands over the course of 2-3 years? I’m honestly asking.
@EarthenBrown4 жыл бұрын
Juju 368 because someone has to pay for that college education. It’s not free. So you’re not entitled to it. Most of my taxes to education are at a local level. I don’t need someone from Vermont dictating to me that I should pay for someone’s college in California. It stops at grade 12 because you have been educated enough to adapt into society. That’s a useful tool to society. Getting a degree in European dance history serves no purpose to society at large. College is career focused. Then don’t take the loan out if you can’t afford it. How come we always talk about how much Bernie's health plan costs, but never talk about how the other candidates' health plans allows millions to die from lack of health care? Edit: People seemed credulous about whether or not it's truly "millions", context follows. Every year 45,000 people die from lack of access to healthcare, this is the status quo that these other politicians are fighting for. Everytime costs estimates are brought up for Bernie's healthcare plan they go by the ten year figures, that's where the 30+trillion dollar numbers (which is about the same price for keeping the status quo btw, just with less deaths) come from. I think it's fair to do the same for deaths. If you want to quibble and say "but that's only HALF A MILLION deaths in ten years... " fine. You got me, it's ONLY half a million unnecessary, totally preventable deaths. You win. On 9/11 3,000 people were killed by terrorists, and we engaged in two wars over it. In terms of raw numbers, OVER TEN 9/11's worth of needless death happen EVERY YEAR and yet we continue to do nothing about it. We are Americans, we can do better.

I think he’s spot on with the whole educate everyone program. He is a socialist. America already has a ton of socialist programs (the military, Medicare, even the trillion dollar tax break to Wall Street). But he is speaking about expanding that program to equip the next generation with education and help the sick with Medicare. I cannot stand all the people here immediately jumping to Communism. Educate yourself about the difference.

@@someguy53299 Yes, in the same way that the Goal of Capitalism is Socialism. Marx (who I will cite here because he is largely responsible for how these frameworks are perceived and interlink) believed that as the world progressed our economic systems changed and developed over time to better suit our society. he proposed that our ancient economy evolved and was overthrown by the medevil serf economy, which was overthrown by mercantilism, which evolved and was overthrown by capitalism. Marx then speculated that as capitalism wore on the systems natural flaws that he diagnosed in "Das Capital" would lead to the masses wanting a new system, socialism, (mind you Marx had a VERY different idea of socialism than what we thing of it now, he was after all the first person to suggest the idea, and philosophers and economists have been building on his ideas ever since his death.) but Marx and by extension Lenin believed that socialism would be a brief stop gap on the road to full communism, much like Mercantilism was a stopgap to get us from Serfdom to capitalism. the idea was that it would be a fusion of the two in order to better aid transition between to radically different systems. It's less a sinister plan and more the march of time, no single system can last forever, not capitalism, not socialism, not communism. it's all very esoteric and confusing, I'd recomend actually reading the theory behind it, "Das capital" is a good place to start but it is by no means the end of the road and neither is Marx for that matter. it's all very fascinating even If you don't agree (I certainly don't, I think marx was wrong about a lot of shit.)
