Ditto here in Canada, too. We pay around 20-22 percent of the income, including employment insurance. And yet pay zero dollars for the healthcare. Yet U.S. folks pay their these basic taxes on the top of out-of-pocket fees like deductibles, coinsurance, and co-payments that could add thousands of dollars per month to per family. So who is paying more? Alas many Americans are so brainwashed.

I'm from Finland. If you earn about 86 000 your tax is about 23 000. Also they tax you higher ONLY from the amount you earn that goes over your tax bracket. If you earn under 20 000 a year, you don't get taxed AT ALL.

I actually watched this interview first, then saw people's commentary like Rational National, TYT, and Pakman. I am glad that the way I viewed the interaction was not just me. I frequently find myself having to defend a position alone or with half-hearted support, it is reassuring to see that I am one of many, e pluribus unum. One of the reasons I frequently watch Progressives is b/c I grew up being Socialist, living in a conservative household... typical family interactions, that we all have, I would make observations and comment on it, and get laughed at for my simple-mindedness. Well, I went and educated myself, I gained experience, I worked within the system and I found out I was right. Not just my family, my extended family, my close friends, strangers that I struck the right chord with... we were all behaving in a Socialist manner, except when there was an other... someone not considered part of the group for ANY reason b/c the same reason was not universal ie Protestant/Catholic/Atheist; White/Asian/Black; Poor/Mostly Poor/Rich; Unemployed/Employee/Busi Owner. So, they are not racist, not sectarian, not classist they just didn't like that person, and found a reason to exclude them from the group and that is fine for your social circle, but the govt social circle is ALL of us.

There is nothing Young Turks has discussed that I wasn't made aware of on MSNBC FIRST. Since 2016, when I first started following American politics I have heard these things discussed on MSNBC. I only recently started watching your channel and I have long been aware of ALL the issues you rail about from watching MSNBC, including the fact that Florida went to Obama twice and that many Republicans would have voted for BERNIE if he had won the nomination, because they simply wanted a disrupter to shake up Washington. I have heard them rake Democrats over the coals for failing to push hard enough. I have heard about the corporate tax rate having been much much higher decades before without any problem. I have heard numerous critiques of trickle down economics, deregulation and capitalism running rampant. I learnt about your crazy child poverty rate, ridiculous healthcare costs, drug prices etc. I've heard about people going bankrupt because of health issues. I learnt that because of this, some people don't seek treatment until it becomes an emergency and too late. I learnt about your lousy labour laws and the unbelievable way your country treats workers. I learnt of teachers working as waitresses after school to make ends meet. I learnt of your housing and rent problems leading to out of control homelessness. It is from watching MSNBC from my "shithole" country that I discovered that America is not a great place to live for the average worker. MSNBC coverage made me understand that my politicians of yore, no matter how flawed they may have been, did try to improve the lot of the average citizen. Bernie Sanders' "One percent" is a constant cry on MSNBC. That is where I first heard it!
