During the World Cup Finals in Dortmund, Germany in 1990, the young, inexperienced horse, Maybe Forever, was filling in for Bernie's seasoned grand prix horse, Eastern Sunrise, who was out with an injury. Who would have thought he would be the only horse to go double clear over one of the most challenging indoor courses Olaf Petersen has ever designed.

First saw Bernie in Wisconsin at a clinic where his son Mike rode. Went to Devon to see Southside and Edenvale perform as a Cheska went with 6 faults in his first Gran Prix and Bernie got beat in a jump off against Buddie Brown with a very small time differential. I had ridden with Homer Adcock, then Jerry Farmer and schooled for Bob Evan who gave me his saddle he had ridden in his career. Always looking for a diamond in the rough, and at 77 know my last fences are down( a song I wrote LAST FENCE DOWN refers to many classes lost on the last fence.) It was a pleasure to see Bernie, Michael, Rodney and many other great ones make the most difficult look easy and know that great horses are out there waiting to be discovered. I practiced medicine in Burlington and knew Lee Barney and his horse Mainspring..I sold one to Homer he called MAINSPRUNG

Maybe Forever was one of my favorite horses to watch growing up! What breed was he and did keep him through retirement?
