This is a terrific rendition that more than holds its own against professional full orchestras of musicians twice their age. (There are many examples on KZbin.) It is so crisp, rich and energetic. I actually don't miss the strings at all, which I didn't think was possible with this piece. Well done.

funny, I was loving it but sorta missed the strings.....and I'm a Euphonium player whose whole reason for being are band transcriptions!

why does the bottom description say University of South Carolina wind ensemble when the top says University of Texas wind ensemble
@audriavaatkinson9834 жыл бұрын

Jerry needs to let up on the gas every now and then. The words relentless and overkill have their occasional places in music; this is not one of them.

The perceived tempo changes are written in. I have played and heard this thing done with the tempo sloshing around and it completely loses the point. It is written to be ahead of the beat, one tempo, constantly driven from beginning to end - no letting up especially in the more melodic part.

interesting observation - I just went back and watched an Older Bernstein conducting this - and it was not quite as manic.
