Hardest thing for me with soldering has been finding the right temperature, I have like 3 of these bernzomatic iron’s, long story short, if you are wondering..... I have found that, like the video states.. 3 has been the best setting for me, other wise it’s wayyy too hot or cold, I’m getting better with it now, keep that tip TINNED lol

great video but in order not to blow out the seals Iv'e heard it's best to open the gas on full then fill it with the butane, click off then ignite to use.

Nice, I'll bet the shrink tube attachment would be a big help on a windy day... Mine didn't come with one.. I have an older model of the Bernzomatic.. Model 1008. and there's no safety button on the switch.

Thanks for the video. Does it come pre filled with butane? I tried adding to mine and it just sprayed all over my hand so I figured it must be full already? I ran it after that for about 10-15 min then when I tried turning it back on it wouldn't get hot so I figure it wasn't full and I only added a tiny amount to the fuel tank so I tried filling it again and it sprayed all over again. Is it sold prefilled? What am I doing wrong? How long does the fuel last for you if using it on the 3 or 4 setting? Thanks in advance :)

No it comes empty from the factory. You gotta tilt the butane bottle upside down, and have it be perfectly perpendicular with the nozzle, then really jam it in - a good amount of force, do it this for a few seconds at time, several times. Temperature can also play a big factor, make sure you're filling it at room temperature.

Thanks. U solved it! I forgot to mention how bad it hurts when the butane spills out on my skin...that should have been a red flag. I just read that butane stops vaporizing at 31° (I'm out in the garage since it said, "in a well ventilated area") So the temp was the problem. Fill it inside in the winter.

I hear that, kind of a pain. I've since switched to the Milwaukee cordless soldering iron and I must say I vastly prefer it over the Bernzomatic.

@@Bootstrappin I got a lot of Milwaukee tools, but I rarely solder so I couldn't spend the $90 for the Milwaukee iron... I thought I had a decent iron for $25, but now with the $20 propane I still spent $55 for something I use once a decade... oh well

I've always used mine as just a little mini pencil torch and have never used the soldering iron function. Now today I finally had a project that required using the hot air blower, so it's my first time trying to use it. It whistles which was fine didn't bother me, but I noticed that within the first few minutes it was turning the air blower tip like a blackish purplish color. Is that normal for it to do that, or is mine broken and now malfunctioning some type of way where it's actually burning the tip or something?

No that's fine, mine does that too. I think it's just really hot in there.

Probably not. Once it's out of fuel it just won't turn on anymore.
