Good review and exactly how I felt. Working my thru the slog of a second half right now. I would have even preferred if I had to do another play through and get all S ranks or something -- but finding the medals is...not fun

Hmm, sounds like we got another "The Messenger" situation with an unnecessary midgame genre-shift that will likely have fans as divided as the game is. Was really hoping the metroidvania elements in this would just be something like the bonus armor and life upgrades in Mega Man X: bummed to hear the direction they went, but will probably still pick it up eventually for that first half like you say. I'm worried that a lot of indie devs feel that they need to pad their games with these unnecessary grinds just to make their run times look more worth the money, though then again we've got games like Gravity Circuit that, for the most part, stick with short n' sweet gameplay!

Yep. I empathize with the rock and hard place all devs are in when it comes to short games and the inevitable pushback they spawn. It sucks. I’d prefer short and replayable over long and bloated. Hell, look at Megaman. That’s like a 1-2 hour game if you know what you’re doing and it’s an uncontested classic.
