Berserk Farewell

I edited together The Berserk (TV Series 1997) into a film trilogy, I also used some parts from the new 2012 Berserk films. I take no credit for this video in anyway. The work is from Kentaro Miura story "Berserk". Directed by Naohito Takahashi and Toshiyuki Kubooka. Written by Ichirô Ohkôchi . Produced by Toshio Nakatani
and Toshiaki Okuno. Music by Susumu Hirasawa. Hope people enjoy. I find it a great way to watch Berserk, though this is still a rough edit so future cuts maybe posted.

I agree. I discovered it in 98 through a pirated copy with English subtitles. Then again when it came onto DVD a few years later. I've read some of the Manga too. The Manga goes far beyond what's covered in the anime, but it's got a lot of volumes and is expensive.

In my interpretation, the Voices are really just Guts' own doubts. The realization that Griffith doesn't really respect him. That Guts doesn't have a dream of his own to chase. Struggling against his feelings of guilt & love of the Band. In battle, his mind clears & all there is the serenity of war, the one thing he truly understands. The voices aren't psychotic urges to kill, but the opposite. They are Guts' subconsciousness trying to make sense of his own will

I was curious about that line. Reminds me of myself in a way. Rambling thoughts conjured up from feelings and interpretations of life. The voices will only cease to exist once you've obtained your own goals in life. Whatever drives you to keep on going and carry on throughout living is what makes it all worth it. We are all nothing but insignificant creatures at the end of the day bombarded by the circumstances of life, which is somewhat perplexing. Reality is a test from beyond our usual basic formalities of sheer human comprehension & capacity. Voices are merely inner dialogue. A guidance to the times ahead of us. Once we are dead, there is nothing. We are no different than the animals we slaughter. The only difference is that we, as homo sapient, are beings of a comprised intelligent species capable of communication that massively impacts and grows our surroundings globally. The voices, unlike us, are the benefactor for the main system in our bodies known as the brain. The brain transmits thoughts, feelings, emotions, desires, ambitions, etc. The voices are one with us, so as we allow them to be. Take some time to meditate and concentrate on the state of mortal souls condemed to futility to properly digest and channel yourself willfully as you go about your everyday livelihood. Appreciate the little things in life before it's gone. Accept your fate and what can be altered. Direct your path into resolve: a determination to achieve whatever you put your mind to. Love yourself unconditionally and open your mind to wander, discover, and experience. You never know where life can take you. That is all, my fellow humans. Farewell and safe journeys for the rest of your lives. ❤✌️

The scene that tugged on my heartstrings the most was when Griffith returned and Casca ran to him and hugged him, and all of his men gathered around their commander, some laughing, others weeping in joy and relief that their beloved white hawk had returned to them, alive and well. I nearly wept myself, not because of what we all know happens to The Band of the Hawks in the future, but because of how much love and devotion they held for their regal leader. God damn, I'm teary-eyed again, as I type this...

I'm sure you know that is something of an oversimplification, two incredbily mature and deep recent anime are Fate Zero and Houseki no Kuni (very different). One is very obviously serious and mature, the other just does it in its own way, but you will find it if you are looking. But yeah, I think I do get your point, there just is something unique about the animation and directing in old anime like Berserk, Evangelion, Ima, soko ni iru boku (my recommendation^^), etc. But it's not like today there are no mature anime anymore, perhaps they are harder to find because it's not what people hype up, and there is plenty other stuff people make a fuss about so the sheer quantity of everything might make it harder to find the pearls as well.

I like the reversal foreshadowing, that displays how Guts left the Band of the Hawk. Gut's left the Band of the Hawk for his dream and to show his friendship to Griffith. Then Griffith kills the members of the Band of the Hawk and rapes Casca. Essentially, this scene and the scene when Gut's defeats Griffith is no different. They're the outcome of Guts walking his own path. Another reason is due to the state of both the Manga and the Anime, I only see the Eclipse as the proper end to Berserk currently so I had no desire in putting the scene in after the Eclipse for the third film. I can understand people complaining about the choice as it is jarring, but honestly Kentaro Miura's Manga is Jarring as well, going between future, past, future. So, I got to edit in my own little spin to what I can edit together. Also sinks up Skull Knights "Struggler" Plot quite well as the scene of Skull Knight I used in the third film is a better conclusion to Skull Knights "struggle is the only sword against Death", message. Flashforward scene is amazing on multiple viewings BTW, I'm going to be re-editing these at some point, as I have clean copies now, got the 1997 on Blu-ray from Australia and OST's.

Ik im like 2 years late but without knowledge of the manga these movies are illustration abiguity through the future instead of the past which completely changes the formula and makes me atleast engaged to find out what the symbol means and why its there by the past which technically plays as the present for the audience as we need to see the beginning to reach the present... i like this edit...

actually think it's cheaper to animate. once you have the textures and lines for the character you can reuse that source forever in any number of episodes. while handdrawn, you have to redraw every single motion every time. the good parts about animating is that you can have a flowing background, the bad parts about it is that fights looks off and also the characters, nothing seems epic.

@@lolsa123 no. We are talking about production quality animation. Fail to do so will obliterate entire scene. Also there is other problem like uncanny valley, bugs, error, etc. And require proffesional rigger, texture artist, etc etc.

ah yes, if you mean like a movie like zootopia/wallee/coco, those movies were high budget and ofc awesome in detail. while berserk opted out for a cheaper animating style that ruined most of the series, first time i saw the 2016th verison of berserk i thought it was cutscenes from a playstation game, not an actual series. but even handdrawn movies look epic if done correctly, like spirited away (all movies from that studio). im not sure if we are speaking past eachother, i agree that the animated scene that was at 21:00 was great, i would have loved that they remade it into the same style. but in the case of the series we got it was a cheap crappy cutscene animation we got and then i would much rather have had the handdrawn that is still just as epic as the old series.

If only Casca didn't call Griffith to stop Guts, Griffith wouldn't know that guts leaving and wouldn't have a break, and the Eclipse wouldn't happen. Its all your fault, casca. If only Judo and corcez didn't stop guts and talk to him in the bar... All the eclipse events is now on you, morons. Its clear that Griffith had a crush on Guts and was about to reveal his emotions to him before Casca told him his crush is leaving.... Than all the shit start to happen and from this on Miyura gets darker and darker and darker by each episode, untill the eclipse. Then, all the depths of hell was upon loose, making Miyura as the top best dark mangaka writer ever lived in our time ...

You are completely wrong. Griffith's possession of the Crimson Behelit ensured that causality conspired to bring the events of the Eclipse to happen, regardless of whatever path he may have chosen in life. The Eclipse was set to occur from the moment he acquired the Behelit, and that was way before he even started to form the Band of the Hawk.

@@R.DeMora true. But then again, you don't see the whole picture when you even didn't read the manga. If this was supposed to be then there is no free choice. People think that it will help guts realize his friend was suppose to betray him from the first place. I tell you its not. But then again that's Miyura's fault for creating such an amazing manga who he even didn't finish and will probably never will.
