When Kentaro Miura is around people have been complaining that Berserk is not the same as before. Like it is too peaceful and nothing much is going on. But when he is not around, people complaining that the art is not the same and that’s not much of a dialogue. Even though there’s a lot of things are happening in the chapter. Seriously, you can’t make everyone happy.

Despite the fact i could understand some fans didn't like the new chapter because is not from Kentaro Miura (Goodbye Legend) and dissapointing because Guts still in rage when meet Griffith again and kinda ruin him because some fans expect Guts to forgive him at some point. I think is pretty unfair to hate the newest Chapter because cleary Mori and Studio Gaga tried their best to continue Berserk and the visual ain't that bad it might be not on Miura's level but it still pretty dope

I worry about Guts and his development as a person, if he ever gets consumed by his rage again and loses himself to the Berserker Armor. I’ve seen lots of theories about the future of Berserk and lots of them doesn’t bode well for Guts trying to cope for losing Casca when she literally just attained her memories again.

Weirdly enough, I fear the opposite -- Guts has grown weaker due to the armor taking its toll and this is the first moment of true despair instead of rage. Also, a lot of the side characters are stepping up. Great for them, but foreboding for Guts...

Guts has changed a lot, he will obviously be devastated but now he has friends and a different perspective of life, he will go for Casca, not in a "Berserk" way but in a more "controlled" way. He will manage to contain his inner rage, hatred, everything. That's what I think.

I can respect some fair criticism from in the community about the newest chapters not being the same or somethings being different, which is fair. However, I still find it shocking that a lot of people have been saying some pretty disgusting things about Kouji Mori and Studio GaGa. I've seen people criticise some of the decisions made narratively already despite Mori's declaration to only write what was told to him. As to the designs of some of the characters, I'm sure over time they'll change and the team will start to take the mantle with more confidence and besides some off panels so far it's been great. I mean 365 was so accurate it felt like they snuck Miura's drawings in, I have faith in their team it's already better than most manga with the art so far. Also, I can put up with a few off model Guts panels I was there when we had L O N G GATSU

Probably not gonna be of much help or interest but: I read and saw somewhere that Miura relayed the true ending of Berserk to his friend mangaka Mori, so that makes Miura and Mori the only ones who know what will happen at the end. Secondly and lastly, Mori said in some interview that he will not flesh out the stories which goes with what you said here that he will only write and have his team GaGa draw what was given to him by Miura himself before his passing and that means only the material and chapters he knows by heart and completely will be the end product that we read and see. Miura did give him some sketches and outlines he did so yes like you've said it's more than possible that those were used in some fashion. That's all.

To also add on to rebutting this “casca is now an generic damsel in distress” not only is her omnipotent abuser (who she once cared about) is right in front of her, stark naked. But just an minute or two in their time he was in the form of her child. Even if she could Immediately face up against the person who dragged her and everyone she cared about through literal hell, and is the main reason she was mentally broken for years. Do you think she would want to even entrain the thought that somehow hurting her abuser would also hurt her child as well... This just shows how far Miura have planned the story. MANY years ago the black dog inside Guts said that someday he would be released and Guts would embrace full bliding rage. For as far as Guts has gone he was NEVER cruel to those that didn't deserve, he would always stop before it (Lost Children) or do it by accident (the son of that noble). Now, it may be the time that Guts is cornered to embrace full cruelty to match Griffith and he may become the true antagonist that the White Hawk might need to fight to save the world before Guts cast it all into flames like a Berserker.

I only will be upset if Casca remains passive during all of this. I really want separate perspectives: 1) Guts and company going to rescue her and seeing how they are dealing with it. 2) Casca dealing with her being captured. Confronting her trauma around Griffith. Maybe even have little things where she ends up working to find a way to escape or something? I don't know. There's a LOT that could happen to Casca right now. Just please give some focus to her as a character and not just focus on how Guts is dealing with this

I personally got concerns of the Damsel in Distress trope playing out. Because Casca has been stripped of most of her agency post Eclipse. And now that we finally get to see her fully concious again, and the opportunity to better understand the story from her perspective, she gets taken away by Griffith. First her regression and now her capture serving as motivation for Guts (the very definition of Damsel in distress) But given how strong she was as a character before the Eclipse, I'm giving Miura/Mori the benefit if the doubt. Since she isn't as helpless as she was in her regressed days

She was always in distress, even in the flashbacks, the only time she wasn't entirely in that role was in the flashbacks which were meant to explain the motivations of the main character against the antagonist - Guts, but again she was still a victim in this conflict between the two men, she never stood on her own even in her past. She was never anything but a motivation for Guts's story as harsh as it is. Now it could change soon in Falconia, but the manga has been very consistent about her portrayal and her role within the manga in relation to the main character. This is a Seinen after all.

I'm totally with you at 4:50. I had completely different traumas with my father (nowhere near something physical or even rape itself, more like mental things) and I could not visualize myself doing anything other that turning away and running if I were to ran into him randomly outside. Let alone Casca and everything that happened to her, it's completely understandable for her to just freeze and not be able to do anything in the sight of the one who basically caused her that much pain.

Because it would literally make it feel like they are just trying to give guts the worst life imaginable and it wouldn't make me feel sad but rather just annoyed and I would just stop expecting things to go in his favor. Guts has been taking constant Ls ever since birth, and if he continued to take Ls, the only logical reaction would be complete rage monster or someone who just doesn't care anymore about life, neither of which are a sensible conclusion of Guts's character. Had Casca not been experiencing PTSD just by looking at Guts and they had some happy moments with each other after she gained her consciousness, this would hit hard but the series is starting to feel like depression bait

Even tho he "has everything", he doesn't have Guts, and he can't live with that... Him doing all of this petty shit is a clear proof... It Seems Like Griffith Was Just Waiting for Guts to Recover the Broken Casca.. That's Why Since Golden Age We Haven't Seen a Single Attack on Casca or Guts.. Rather He Has Helped the Two by his Child Form, which I am Really Curious About. Also Once Casca did Recover, We as a Viewer didn't even get a Single Wholesome Guts-Casca Interaction Rather in Less than 2 Chapters Griffith Just Snatches Her Away.. Casca is pretty much a damsel in distress but it's not like it's a shoehorned trope. Her character is constructed enough to make for interesting writing. It makes sense, she does have value to Griffith. I think she will be kept a while and when Griffith becomes the kid her interactions with the child will be important. Her potential plot line is interesting if you ask me. Guts having to painstakingly work his way to her while she has interactions with Griffith, Zodd, Sonia, the kid, etc. Sonia might see into her mind and have the image of her perfect white knight shattered by the same moments as Casca herself. Then what will she do? Would also be cool if Griffith sends his commanders and or some go rouge to hunt down Guts. Guts 1v1ing each of those guys would be sick no doubt. Image the next arc is essentially Black Swordsman 2.0. But this time with the armor.

I think we all know what’s gonna happen, this is it, guts will finally give in to the armor. For one it doesn’t seem that Griffith will lose his power anytime soon so guts was gonna need a buff at some point anyway. Two, it was kinda foreshadowed by the dwarf who made the armor for skull knight when they discussed how it consumed him and also by guts himself during his training session when he lost grip of his sword and basically said “I need the armor” then ironically the child pops out of the armor. I could see guts in his despair turn to the armor, give himself to it then skull knight is the only one who can get through to him. The knight would reveal the full details of his life and demise, then bring guts back in a way that would allow guts to keep his soul and sanity but also wield the full power of the armor. This would serve as a redemptive feat for skull knight since he was the “beneficiary” of the previous eclipse and largely a parallel to guts.

But if he gives into the armor, he's almost doing exactly what Griffith and every other demon did and giving up his humanity in rage just for the sake of power. His struggle till now to hold on to his humanity will become meaningless. He's training to be able to use the full power of the armor without losing his mind, not simply getting the full power. Because if they were gonna do that, why wait so long?

His whole point of the character is killing demons while not becoming a demon himself i.e. not giving up his humanity just for the sake of power like Griffith did

The whole reason for getting the berserk armor for power is so that he doesn't have to become a demon like Griffith did and throw away his humanity for power. This chapter makes me thing of what the beast of Darkness said to Guts To become powerful he needed to forget, destroy Casca, to become a demon, much like Griffith did I think his party will try to pull him out of the darkness, but in the case of the Skull Knight I'm unsure, I think whatever is coming to the Island and whatever is emerging from it will inevitably fight against Guts, and him being at his lowest mentally and physically, the Berserker armor will be fully used until it either breaks or Guts is somehow pulled away from it

I think this time as guts is surrounded by demons instead of rage he will fall into absolute defeat, the beast of darkness will show up, witnessing a defeted broken man and proceed to abandon guts while mocking his state. Then will the actual development of his character will be put to the ultimate test.

As a person who had concerns about the damsel in distress aspect of where the story is going, I don't think people were really concerned with Casca "fighting back". The main concern was that, after she has been in a debilitated state for literal years now, people were concerned that the story was going to continue with that portrayal of Casca once again, as someone who is in perpetual need of protection and rescue. "There's so much more to her character than 'strong female character who can fight'". I don't think anyone actually thinks that. We've been shown that for the majority of the manga at this point, with her being in a catatonic for majority of the manga. It's because how dynamic, multidimensional, and well written her character was written in the Golden Age era that makes people have the concerns they hold. Add to that the fact that the story is now in the hands of someone other than Miura, and you can start to understand where the concern would be coming from. Now, with all that being said, I ultimately believe you are correct. This will most likely be a setup to advance Casca's character and have her confront her trauma, rather than sitting idly, waiting for Guts and the crew to come rescue her. I can only really speak for myself, but in my case, I conflated my emotional concern for Casca having to go through so much trauma, being vulnerable, and captured by Griffith with the concern of her being a so-called "damsel in distress", and I think it might be the case for other people as well that they honestly have an emotional attachment to her as a character, and their disdain for seeing her in a vulnerable state leads them to make such statements as her being a "damsel in distress" despite knowing logically otherwise that they probably won't regress Cascas character, and that these events will most likely be a story device for her to actually improve.

I think also alot of people were excited at the prospect of Casca getting to spend time and form bonds with Guts group now that she got her mind back. I was looking forward to that as well, but that was my own headcannon. clearly Miura was planning to remove Casca again. I can only wonder how I would have reacted differently had this been done by Miura or would I feel the same? its not really a criticism, but an observation overall, but these new chapters post Miura have felt a lacking in detail, execution and I guess complete knowledge about the characters and how they think. how couldn't it right? It wouldn't be far off to guess Mori doesn't have every minute detail to go off of, so its gonna feel piece meal at times, dialogue wise. I have missed Guts inner thoughts the last few chapters and my fear is that he remains as a largely silent character moving forward because again Mori and Studio Gaga don't have every detail, since Miura wrote things as he went along, by his own admission and he really put alot of himself into Guts, so thats gone with Miura I think.

One guy that's pretty good is somebody who was mentioned in the video: Tranquil Dionysian. He makes Berserk videos with chapter and character analysis, timelines, he made a Berserk Iceberg and Miura's inspirations for Berserk video and variety of other stuff for other manga and anime like One Piece, Hunter x Hunter, Vinland Saga, Kingdom, Vagabond, Fire Punch, did a video on Mori's introspective, fighting action manga titled Holy Land a while back. Susanoo by Go Nagai (Casca and the other series' main protagonist's love interest are both sexually violated, Nosferetu/Zod) who made Devilman (main antagonists of both; Ryo Asuka who is basically Satan or a Lucifer, and Griffith are androgynous angelic beings of light and dark whom spur on the stories' respective protagonists to become beasts and embrace darkness and violence) There's Violence Jack by Nagai too. Lucas' Star Wars which Miura was big fan of (Puck dressing as Yoda and speaking like him in comical way, Falcon of the Millennium Empire Arc and more), manga called Guin Saga whose authoress passed years before Miura did; possibly De Palma's Phantom of The Paradise (Band of the Hawk and Griffith's armor or mask, Falcon), Batman (the Berserker Armor and cowl on Guts and Griffith's armor, Guts and Batman brood and dark characters), A.E. Vogt's SLAN, Ubik by Philip K Dick (member Ubik), Destination: Void by Frank Herbert (Void, The Apostles), and HELLRAISER film, the first one by horror author Clive Barker (Behelit/Beherit is Lament Configuration Box, God Hand and eponymous Cenobites similar or the same) and so much more. I personally theorize griffith using casca to get guts to work under him again kinda like a bargaining chip. Guts leaving and being the one person griffith couldn't control and keep really fucked with him, and guts is the one thing he doesn't have after he got his kingdom thats damn near a utopia for the world to flock to and an undefeatablearmy's ,so I can see griffith wanting to win their little dynamic by kidnapping casca to try and "win" guts back saying he either like keeps her and that being torture enough because of the trauma responses or letting her go but guts having to stay which is a very large power play especially since guts can't even do damage to this griffith so guts would be given no other option (obviously stuff can be added to change this but as it is now guts can't do anything to griffith) but either submit or have casca lose her freedom. I’ve seen a lot of criticism on the new chapters solely because of how they seem different from Miura’s work. While yes, we all have high expectations for this beast of a manga, and one that holds a special place in all of our hearts, Mori is taking up a vast project that I’m sure is weighing him down a lot. But this is just like how it took a few volumes of Berserk for Miura to finally find confidence in the art style, as you can see it starts to shine in the beginning of the Golden Age arc. While yes, Mori might not be the Miura that we all want to see, but goddamn does he and Studio GaGa do an amazing job to emulate the style. I mean the recent chapters threw me up in a loop when I realized that Mori was drawing the panels, and not Miura himself. Overall, I am excited to see how the story will pan out, and how the art style will adapt later in the series.

Guts has been battling his inner demon and Godo basically laid it out for him saying his options were to defend what he loves (Casca) or give into his rage and become a monster to enact his revenge. And I think seeing the one he loves taken from him after finally healing her to some extent will be the final push over the edge. I think the next few fights when he uses the Berserker armor Shireke is going to struggle to pull him back and in the final conflict he'll be lost to the torrent. Especially since it's been shown in Elfheim that his body is getting physically weaker so the only way (with what we know of now) to augment that and go beyond is to give into the armor. As much as I want a happy ending for my boy... It just doesn't seem to be meant to be.

Griffith could've easily killed Guts at the Eclipse but chose not to because he knew it would be more painful for Guts to live with his broken life than to simply kill him. The only connection Griffith feels towards Guts is a negative one filled with resentment and spite because he still blames Guts for "distracting" him from his dream. Now that Griffith has Casca he will distract Guts from his dream of having a peaceful life with Casca by forcing him to chase him across the world just like how Guts distracted Griffith from his dream. Whatever positive feelings Griffith has for Guts is completely overshadowed by the sheer spite and hatred Griffith still obviously feels.

The issue of Caska as a character is that she often feels like a plot tool. Most of Guts' motivation comes from wanting to save/protect Caska, Guts and co's sole reason for going to Elfhelm in the first place was to find a way to restore Caska. Before that he had to save her from Albion etc. And for many years she was too broken mentally to be able to make her own decisions. I think a lot of people expected her to make her own decisions once she was healed, and to be able to stand shoulder to shoulder next to the two male protagonists, but once again she's tossed into the role of the damsel in distress. In terms of tropes, it's not the best portrayal of a female character, but that would be ignoring the effect trauma can have on a person. More importantly, all the characters were pretty much powerless against Griffith, including Guts himself. So it can only be that Caska can't face Griffith, at least not yet. Her development would be to face Griffith and get past her trauma, and hopefully make her own decisions regardless of what Guts want her to do. But that's just not going to happen overnight, Miura simply wasn't that kind of author, and Mori+Studio Gaga will try to uphold that legacy. It's just a matter of them finding their own pace.

I think the Skull knight has been pulling all the strings. Skull knight directs Guts to Elfhelm to return casca's mind. Why? Casca has her mind back and the moonlight boy shows up because he seems to be linked to her. The moonlight boy is Griffith's way of infiltrating Elfhelm. He transitions from the Moonlight boy and all hell breaks loose. literally. But who is conveniently there? The Skull Knight. I think The Skull Knight is helping Griffith unbeknownst to him from the shadows. If Griffith succeeds, the godhand will show themselves and SK can attack Void again. I think once Guts realizes he and Casa were just tools being used by the Skull Knight, we'll see the SK become an antagonist.

He himself said (or it was someone else, I don't remember) that he only feel anger and hatred against the inhumans and that's what makes him "alive", but since everything lies withing the limits of causality, he couldn't do much. But Guts is the one that can escape a little bit of destiny, so Skull Knight is using him to get to the Godhands and have some chance to defeat them, after that, Guts will be no use for him

Personally I am a bit worried about the direction guts' conflict is going to. Because throughout most of Berserk guts had to choose between getting revenge on griffith or protecting casca. But now it seems like killing Griffith will also resort in saving Casca, because she's been kidnapped by him, so guts will achieve both of his goals at the same time. This is very underwhelming because guts won't have to make the final decision his arc has been leading up to.

Whenever full moon comes, he will take control of Griffith and go straight to Casca and Guts. In some way, this pose danger to Griffith himself. People need to realize the core of what berserk is. It can be character driven all you want. But what it comes down to is the will to struggle on and overcome the brutal challenges that the world throws at you. Miura wrote his interpretation through his work, and now mori has to try and act like he knows how Miura would have finished the story. I personally don’t believe guts will ever reach peace and happiness because that’s not real life. It’s about learning to love the walk not the destination. As much as people want casca to “fight back” she is clearly just a tool for guts development

They will be starting a new arc after the next two chapters. It hasn't been confirmed that it will be the final one, but it very well could be considering where the story is at.

Its the most likely scenario. They have limited amounts of detail to go off of. and they want to stick as closely to what they know as possible. Miura told Mori things over the years as he said. but Miura, by his own admission wrote things on the fly most of the time. so there isn't tons of stuff laying around they can go off of.
