Its been such a long time since we saw you, Crystal, and your dad, talk about the golden age. Even the black swordsman arc. As if a long gone chapter... and now we're nearing a new fascinating dawn. I couldn't be more invested. Ive read Berserk a few times by now, but this series is just too catching. The whole presentation also took a great turn. I think it could be nice having a sort of podcast type of talk once we get to a more still point of the story where each can draw their conclusions for the present and future and maybe reflect on the characters, individually, or whatever you guys do :)

The egg of the perfect world made me think of a unfertilised chicken egg, unable to hatch its purpose. Despite absorbing Casca’s fetus out of sympathy I believe fate had a role in it. Now the egg is fertilised and will hatch something that is about to bring the world into a new order. Something important enough that the Godhand got summoned to witness in person. Femto not being present has definitely something to do with this. What’s well knows for laying eggs? Birds. What did Griffith ask for? Wings. As much as we hate it , Griffith’s dna is in that soon to be born baby. Something bad is about to happen no doubt

8:20 is from the Farnesse's viewpoint.This is where she's a paradigm shift. All that she though was good is evil (the order/god) and all that she though was evil (Guts) is good. Guts is the only torch in the darkness.

I'm quite puzzle at his view of the eggman, he never seemed so evil or malicious. He had a "life" so miserable that being a bit resented to the world is very natural. However, he just wanted something better, even when he was transforming people, he was granting them the ability to project their own self image to the world. An incredibly tragic "character" but I would struggle with calling it evil.

The fact that things keep on escalating after Mozgus is dealt with was the main reason this arc is still my favorite Berserk arc so far. You'd think dealing with the big baddie of the arc would bring on a new chapter, but the mystery just keeps building and the stakes keep getting higher and higher... And what comes at the apex of all this mayhem? Oh god, I cannot wait to see Dads reaction.

I think you are at the part where Gut's tells them all to grab a torch, but your dad didn't mention the part where he yells at Farniece to quit praying and swing the torch. So I don't know if you read that part or not. When I first read that part I initially felt it was the author harshly criticizing people praying in times of danger, so I hope that hasn't made your dad feel discouraged in anyway. However, as I read it I thought about it some more, and the phrase appeared in my head "God helps those that help themselves". And so I think that even though that may not be Gut's intention, it is a valuable lesson to learn. That in times as bad as that to not become passive. Its ok to pray, but you can do so while also actively swinging your torch. We are in the world so we sometimes have to endure hardships, but we should be more active and proactive to survive. Its a bit like the story of the drowning man crying out for God to save him, and a boat comes to rescue him and he refuses it because he trusts God to save him, and then the boat leaves and the man drowns. When he gets to Heaven he asks God, "why didn't you save me?!", to which God replies "I sent you a boat!". I think, even though this arc can be especially harsh, the ending with Luca will be really encouraging so I hope after that your dad will be able to see moments like the one with Guts yelling at Farnese for praying in a more positive light, because Guts may not see it yet, but there is a light out there in the world, but also what he says is something Farnese did need to hear (especially since she wasn't praying because of belief, but of desperation, so it wasn't very genuine).

Kind of weird how little he says about the religious debates within these chapters. You'd thing he would have some strong options on the guts mozgus conversation as well as "the don't waste your breath praying" line but things like that are not even mentioned. Would probably have been intressting commentary even if you happen to dislike those parts.

I think its for the best for now. This arc gets pretty harsh with how it portrays that stuff, and Guts naturally hates anything like that. But the Arc ends clearing up that this was mostly human's fault and people weren't being punished simply for believing in a god of some sort (something like that, I'm talking about Luca's speech). At that point I think it would be a good time for him to talk about it because it makes it more clear that its not the author being an edgy atheist but rather just how the world of Berserk works and how Guts feels about these things, but that the aim of the author isn't to discourage you from your own faith. With that in mind you can more clearly see how things like "Stop praying and grab a torch" isn't so much "Praying is bad and you should feel bad doing it", and more like "God helps those who helps themselves". There's an interesting nuance or lesson there that you might overlook because you'd expect it to be anti-religious and nothing more. So I hope that he is just doing a wait and see approach to this stuff and will have a more interesting insight as the arc ends.
