I agree with Bert. He should have Louis CK, Bill Burr and Dave Chappelle do 10 minutes, then a 10-min set of Seinfeld, Eddie Murphy and Chris Rock, lead in with 10 more by Dave Attell and Doug Stanhope to lead in Bert himself. Drop in an interlude with Jimmy Carr and Eddie Izzard, plus an insturmental outro with Tim Minchin, Bo Burnham and Bill Bailey. Really bookend the show for Bert. Fuck it, maybe the ghost of Robin Williams could do some ethereal material while the audience is leaving.

I think Berts saving grace though is he seems like a decent bloke at the core but the fame just got to him. The thing that sucks about a comedian like Bert is that he's occupying the comedy world with his presence, while unknown but actually talented comedians can't catch a break.
@2feettotheground Жыл бұрын
There’s no such thing as occupying the comedy world, it’s a matter of what you choose to focus on, Cumtown for example went from being the funniest comedy podcast to ever exist to becoming an amazingly produced show with great guests. That’s way more important than anything Bert and all these people do
@legendary.super.shannon9699 Жыл бұрын
That's a *big* reach there, @MetallicaRocks. How does Bert not being a very good comedian keep other comics from making a name for themselves...? That doesn't make any sense... In fact, it would be the exact opposite. Extraordinarily successful comics like Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock, Jerry Seinfeld, Louie, or even (to a lesser extent) Shane Gillis, Big Jay - those guys can pop-in randomly to just about any comedy club, & go-up & do 2 or 3 hour sets a if they feel like it, or when they have a new premise they're attempting to polish, & open mic-ers that were supposed to do their sets that night don't get to go up as a result, & they're allowed to get away w/it because they're well respected & people love to hear them workout new jokes. Bert doesn't have that kind of pull, because he's not a great comic. If anything he's helping young comics by being at the low-end of mediocre but famous & well-known, because if they follow him & kill, they look like geniuses in comparison. He's also well-known for taking tons of up-&-coming comics on-tour w/him.... What you're insinuating is way off base vs the actual reality. 🤨
@MetallicaRocksss Жыл бұрын
@@legendary.super.shannon9699 what I'm saying is, even though we wish it weren't so, Bert is filling up our feeds instead of new talented comics. I agree with everything you said. Louis is on the Mount Rushmore of comedy, and people who only associate him with his cancellation will never understand. I’ve always felt that Louis is the Stanley Kubrick of comedy. He does everything himself, gets the deals that nobody else does because no one else can produce the same quality as him, and is in complete control of the final product. One of Louis’ specials is equal to the current comedian’s 10 specials. As Bert has been telling the machine story for 20 years and having it not be funny even once, Louis’ ability to throw away every single hour he does is nothing short of the top one percent of talent.

I love Louis C.K, I feel like he's a genius when it comes to comedy. His wisdom he shares is legendary.

Same here. He has more to offer than just great comedy. He has gained alot of wisdom in his time and is good about trying to give others guidance in his subtle way. The 4 episode podcast he did with Shane about American presidents is a must watch imho.

Can we talk about the "podcast laugh track" it's as if Tom and Bert pay a dude to laugh hysterically in the background as if he just heard the funniest shit in his life.

Louie's show " Louie" is a great example of what you're talking about. It's like watching an introvert get into uncomfortable situations. That show gives some insight in to Louie CK himself and made me appreciate his comedy more. When I heard about the controversy my heart sank, but wasn't really surprised. If you look at what happened it could be a bit or a scene from his show. I'm really happy for him that he was able to bounce back and take what he went through to heart. Miss the show though.

Louis CK canceled all of his own projects dude. This is revisionist history. Louis CK's story came out and he immediately regressed into the Shadows by his own accord. Everyone knew this at the time. I hate this cancel culture narrative where people want to paint Louis CK's a victim. Louis CK victimized itself because he was incredibly embarrassed and ashamed of the stuff he was doing. Which is the only reason why I say Louis CK was doing things he knew he shouldn't have been doing. Had Louis CK defended himself.... like "i just jerked off in front of chicks; nobody cares. " The fact that he immediately canceled himself let me know that there was something to those actual stories. This is the reason that Charlie Sheen is a hero to me, because that guy defended himself constantly

I heard Jim Gafigan on the Bob and Tom show on the radio maybe 20 years ago. He told the Hot Pocket bit. I was in tears at work. We literally stopped we were all laughing so hard. I saw him live on stage several years later and it was great. But towards the end people demanded "Hot Pocket". His face said it all and I'm pretty sure I've seen Bert's Machine bit on two different specials. Jim was sick of being forced to tell that joke. Like, "it's been 8 years people, I have more, newer, better material. It doesn't fit with anything else I've done except one poop joke 45 minutes ago." I absolutely expect Bert to tell the Machine story happily (him being happy). He seems to make like an alcoholic that is running out of stories to tell or the memories to draw from. Just got done living with an alcoholic and he told the same three stories everytime people got to talking. Bert reminds me of him.

Louis has always been on my my Mt. Rushmore of comedians since his sp. "Shameless" and meanwhile at YMH studios; Bert: "we'll party our balls off" that's very telling... that's what matters to Bert and in between all that nonsense it seems like he throws in some recycled awful jokes/stories. I heard that machine story once and that was plenty of Bert for me to last me a lifetime lol

If Louis CK were canceled, why could I still find his content everywhere during the time where he was quotes canceled“? This isn’t to say that I don’t think there are levels to different forms of punishment perspective to the salacious act he committed, the people keep throwing around this word canceled as though someone experiencing a punishment and backlash for being gross is akin to cancellation.

Damn I’ve never heard somebody say it so perfectly like Louis did here and it goes well with people that struggle with addiction like Bert. “You feel more by living a normal life, the temporary excitement leaves you dry” so true now that I quit that lifestyle I feel and experience so much more.
