Thanks much for posting this. Television came just in time for vierers to see performers like this who had honed their art in vaudeville and the movies.

Jimmy is also a fantasy character; he played Humpty Dumpty in "Alice Through the Looking Glass" in 1966.

Brilliant- I see how their influences have affected creative artists for decades to follow- from the bits in the act to the performance overall and the characters themselves

This performance from two legends of entertainment was from the "Standard Oil New Jersey Presents Its 75th Anniversary Entertainment", which was broadcast in color on October 7, 1957. The program was co-hosted by Tyrone Power and Brandon deWilde.
The last number was great, advice for us all, just wish it could be posted in better quality video!

schmalz: A German word meaning melted fat, used to mean excessive sentimentality. ...except in the hands of Schmalz-masters, and then it's never "Excessive," it is, instead, "Sufficient." (Tyrone Power introducing them? Icing on the Schmalz.)

Two old guys gawking at 18 year old girls. Yep, glad that’s gone out of style. I still remember the uncomfortable feelings of that behavior when I was young.

You're crazy if you think old men don't still ogle young women, but it can be innocent in that that's all they're going to do
