The first time I saw this sketch was on the Hollywood Palace in 1965, and years later Don Adams and (I think) Carol Burnett played the same sketch, but were not quite as unlikely a pair. Carol and Art Carney did a spin on the same theme on the Carol Burnett Show: Art played a "debonair" garbage truck driver, and Carol was his swooning, love-smitten, jealous wife. All good, but this version is my favorite and it holds up: still funny after all these years! Thanks for posting it!

although Lahr did a version of this skit with Nancy Walker in a B'way revue, seeing Bette Davis "let her hair down" makes it even funnier. Talk about two pros at work!

I prefer Bette Davis OFF screen. She was a very bright woman very much ahead of her time. She had character and star quality.

Absolutely DISGUSTING AND DEPLORABLE. BETTE DAVIS VERY CLEARLY AND OBVIOUSLY.."HAD NO SELF-RESPECT NOR..DIGNITY ABOUT/FOR "HERSELF"! IT IS VERY SAD SICKENING AND GRIEVING, TO SEE, OBSERVE AND BE CONFRONTED WITH SUCH AN "HORRIFYING" REALITY SUCH AS THIS! I NO LONGER FEEL THAT WONDERING/THINKING..OR..ASKING WITH WHOM DID SHE HAVE SEXUAL RELATIONS BUT, MY MORE "SENSIBLE INQUIRY IS..OF WHOM "DID BETTE DAVIS.."NOT" HAVE ANY SEXUAL CONTACT, NOR, RELATIONS WITH. LEILANI JANICE LEE DOUTHIT RAMEY-DAVIS THEBLESSINGOFABRAHAMISONUS4BLHD4EVR. 📖🕯🔦💡📰😣😐😢😭🙁😓🤕😷😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😯😒😝😕😟😢😔

If you want to see a REAL classic version of this with a REAL comic actress, see Lahr with the inimitable Nancy Walker. Bette Davis, the greatest hambone of all time, could not do comedy at all.

I agree. Where can I find that skit with Walker? Ed Sullivan had them on his show every year or so. At the two ends of a kitchen table.
