This conversation was so open an healthy. In 2020 this is the vibe Burt should push for on the show. Have people come in an actual talk about some real shit in their life rather than the same shop talk they always do

I'm a newbie and being honest, this is the first episode I didn't bail on. Don't get me wrong, if there are episodes I've just not come across that are light, just telling interesting stories, that's cool too...but the shop talk just doesn't hold me.

Glad to hear you were able to get off the booze Nick! I was in the same boat with how serious my drinking was... I had a seizure 24hrs into my detox and almost died at 28yrs old! I’m 31 now and haven’t had a drink since 4/14/2017... thank you for sharing your story Nick! Quitting alcohol is one of the hardest things anyone can do in life! Bert please take this shit seriously.

I have been sober for about a year and a half. I still battle internally about whether or not there will be a time when maybe I can go back to having some drinks at certain events, etc. That is my own personal battle and everyone has there own reasons for getting/staying sober. I can tell you that what he says about EVERYTHING GOT BETTER is absolutely true, and I frequently think about that as a reason to just say for right now I am going to go another day or another month or whatever without drinking because everything really is better and I see no reason for right now to chance that changing. I can also say that for a while before I quit I would read things just like what I am now writing to you and they would hit home and inspire thoughts of quitting but I never took action...until I had to take action. You have to reach the place where you decide it's time on your own and I wish you the best.

going on 2 1/2 years sober, easily the best choice I've ever made. I was a bottle+ a day for almost 6 years, drank for 12. I hope no one ever goes through the withdrawals I faced. 2 weeks of a waking nightmare. D.Ts, hallucinations, sweating, puking every 30 minutes. I did this all in-house cold turkey.

Closest thing to drugs for me was when I had my thoracotomy for absesses in my left lung, I almost died also. they had to spread my ribs but I was asleep for that part. But when I was healing they gave me morphine, yeah it's not a big deal but they were like, "okay we're gonna give you 4mgs of morphine every 4hrs", I was like "will that put me to sleep" and they were like "yeah" I was like, how about only 2mgs for now and wait 2hrs and give 2 again. And they were like "okay we can do that" which was a mistake, not because I couldn't handle the pain laying in bed, but because I had to get up and be moved to a different room with all this shit I had on me and sitting up straight was the worst, then I had to stand and get in a wheelchair. It was alright as soon as I got to my new room. I have a high pain tollerance, was only 18 this happened exactly a year ago, I'm 19 now. But I had to learn how to walk again because I was kept in bed for so long. They did give me Norco for like 2 weeks then I had some withdrawals coming off of that but yeah. The stitches for my surgical scar actually came open and I felt like my whole back was gonna fell out of my skin. But I didn't really do anything about it till I saw my surgeon again 1 last time and asked if this was okay and he was like, "oh yeah that's fine that will heal"

@Lost Coast Pirate . i was given fentanyl during an angiogram(catheter through my wrist into my heart) and was disappointed after because i didn't even feel anything from it.. i didn't even know they gave it to me until i looked at my insurance claims. no high. nothing. no overwhelming calm. they shoved a tube through my arteries and that was it. but i also don't use pills like that ever. maybe im just not wired for abuse in that way. but i heard so many stories that i expected to have felt something. especially for the cost billed.

The bars are definitely create a more tricky situation than heroin. WD's from heroin are no joke, but you really gotta do the benzo detox carefully. Be super careful driving while you're tapering.
