Fun fact, the original GoBots didn't have bios on the packages, but the toy catalog that Tonka used to advertise them at Toy Fair did include bios for the characters. Screw Head was an inventor, Spay-C was an explorer, etc. You can find the full bios online. In the end of the series they started putting toys on the boxes.

You know I've wondered, since Hasbro now own the rights to Gobots, and the Command Centre was an actual Tonka toy, designed and made by them. Would Hasbro ever consider doing a revamp of this play set for one of their Transformer line. I mean the same could be said for other original Tonka toys like the Renegade Thruster, Zod or Scales.

One wonders if Tonka thought the use of "enhanced interrogation techniques" (i.e., torture) and reprogramming (i.e., brainwashing) were acceptable behavior from the good guys. Or does anyone else suspect the Command Center was originally supposed to be the bad guys' vehicle, with Cy-Kill a "freedom fighter" opposing the Guardians' tyranny, before Tonka changed its mind and switched the factions and their members' moral alignment for some reason?

In the U.K. The toy line was originally called Robo Machine and actually had a comic series to help promote the toy line, similar to how Hasbro commissioned Marvel to produce a comic series for Transformers. And like Transformers it was actually a bit more mature and violent than the TV series. Eventually the Show arrived in the U.K., and the comic series was sadly axed before there was a conclusion to its current story. The Command Centre which featured in the comic resembled the toy more and even had its third robot like mode.

Another great review mate, have subscribed to your channel. Remember having this as a kid. The lights worked but not the sound, but not surprised as the guy who owned it before me left it outside all the time rain or shine. Really wanted the AT-AT Walker but the Hasbro one was hard to find in the UK at that time (1998). The only shop near by that sold it was a shop called Kool Collectable in York for £150. No way could afford that at 11 and my parents weren't willing to pay that sort of money for a toy. Use to know a guy who had this playset and asked him if he wanted to swap it for a game I didn't like. He said yes. Knew it wasn't an official AT-AT but though better then nothing. When I managed to get a Kenner one by part exchanging a vintage 12 inch Boba Fett (which cost a £1 at a table top sale). I gave this to my cousin, as he wanted to use it as an ATAT. When the guy I traded with found out he was well annoyed. He asked why, told him it wasn't from SW or a ATAT he been the person he was, convinced he was always right and 99.9% was always wrong and very nasty and aggressive with it, kept telling me it was. He was a complete idiot and he wondered why no one liked him in the end and I can't believe we were mates once I must have been mad. Also he use to take a mick out of mw for been a Star Wars fan, but recently I was working at a Sci Fi convention and he was there and a crap attempt at dressing was wearing a black dressing gown over normal clothes with goth boots carrying a lightsaber was so tempted to comment but pretended I didn't recognise him, though I can't be bothered.

i just skimmed through an old photo album a month or 2 ago & came across a Christmas photo of me in 84 or 85. This was in the corner of the picture & i THINK it said $27.98? It was blurry as hell, i could tell it was a KB Toys pricetag in the corner, but it looked like $27.98. Right beside it was Battle Bones from He-Man & it said $9.98 (that 1 was a lot clearer.)

I always thought of these guys as the future of Humanity... One day we figured out how to mate with our smart phones, then we went too far and war raged across the planet... Until Cybertronian's came to Earth, laughed their transistors off at the posers, and then conquered the planet. Honestly Transformers did the character development better and ironically I remember that Hasbro bought them out and used some of their designs for Transformers. So yeah, hail the conquering hero! haha

In the media GoBots are cyborgs. They have organic components. The original giveaway promo booklet claimed they "replaced worn-out part of their bodies" with mechanical components. In the show this was expanded to being the only way to survive the Master Renegade's attempt to wipe out the Gobotronians, forcing them to become GoBots. So GoBots needing to eat as well as maintaining their vehicular forms is not that surprising.

Bert The Stormtrooper My Pleasure. I'm actually writing a story called Purgatory that has characters inspired by Transfomers and Gobots. The two factions are the Sentinels and the Insurgency. The Sentinals got their name in honor of my Optimus Prime character, Aegis Sentinel, who could transform into a jumbo jet. So the general term for these guys are Androids because they are robots with human organs. The one thing that separates Androids from Transformers and Gobots are that my Androids can sexually reproduce, and they get their alternate mode when they're set on who they want to be. The founder of the Insurgency is Ripsaw (a female Cy-Kill), who follows the ideals of Sentinel's greatest enemy, a scrap metal dragon named Ragnarok. The Sentinel's are led by Aegis Sentinel's offspring known as Amelia (a female Leader-1) and her twin brother Diesel (Think of Optimus Prime mixed with Road Ranger). So what do you think?

Actually from what I've read or heard from other reviews, while the Gobots did hit the toy shelf before Transformers. The TV series however came out a month after the Transformers series did.
