I know this video is old by now, but Bertucci really takes care of the military. I went to order a titanium one for myself for a deployment, and I had mentioned I had a couple of guys under me that I was looking at getting watches for. They sent my seven watches when I had only paid for one. Not a single watch was destroyed on that deployment, and they went through hell.

I have a couple of Bertucci watches. I like them for their simple, no-nonsense design and construction. I get the attraction of mechanical field watches. I own some as well. However, if you're really interested in durability, a solid quartz movement will be much more durable than a mechanical (in most situations). If you drop your mechanical 4 feet onto a hard floor, chances are it will have to be regulated, because you've at least jarred the lever on the balance bridge. With a quartz, just pick it up an move on with your day.

Agreed. There's no doubt that there's a certain "romance" to a mechanical movement, but if you boil it down to functionality, quartz are just better (and cheaper) timekeepers. I liken this to analog audio vs digital arguments. There's a place for both!

in my watch snob journey its much like my beer snob journey. I used to scoff at Budweiser versus craft beer, now I'll gladly take a Budweiser. in the watch game quartz used to a joke....but just like the Budweiser, a quartz is no BS and will get the job done in the moment. You arent going to have people walking up asking "wow what beer os that?" people simply acknowledge that you are drinking a beer and move on.

I bought this watch in July of 2019. I've been wearing on the job site every day since. It's a solid watch that takes a lot of abuse. 8 going on 9 months isn't a super long time, but I've broken watches in less time. Definitely like the overbuilt strap, and I put a film on the crystal to prevent scratches. One thing you didn't mention is the (not)spring bars integrated into the body making it virtually impossible to have a failure due to strap or spring bars, this is good when you're lifting and moving heavy stuff on site every day. Also, I own a bunch of automatics but I leave this watch in my work bag over the weekend. It's nice to not have to reset the time on it after two days off. Sometimes quartz it the answer. Might also be worth mentioning the Bertucci you reviewed is the Lithium model with a promised 10 year battery life. For $30 less you can get essentially exactly the same watch with a standard battery that lasts 3 years. I don't work for Bertucci, and truth be told, now that I own one of their watches I likely won't buy another because this thing may never break or wear out. Thanks for the reviews. Always love watching your channel.

My first Bertucci watch was the A-1S and the battery lasted over 5 years. Given it was not a lithium battery I was really impressed with the life of the battery. I have the A-2T high polish watch on the way with the Swiss Rhonda 715 quartz movement and can't wait to check it out. These are awesome watches. I have used the A-1S working in the shop and going primitive camping and have not had any issues with it. Bertucci also offers a refurbishment program that is pretty good too. I had got two major chips in the crystal, my fault not the watches, and so I dropped the money and got a fully refurbished watch with a warranty for 1/2 the price of a new watch.

@@ArnavKathuriapersonal Solid. I haven't had to change the battery yet though I'm coming up on 3 years so soon. Same strap. It isn't fraying though it is stiffer than ever. Thankfully it's formed to my wrist. It's a keeper. I have a Casio 5600 for at home (the Bertucci lives at work) and there's nothing wrong with the Casio but the Bertucci feels more robust. I'd be afraid of shredding the plastic strap of the Casio and maybe losing the watch. That won't happen with the Bertucci.

Bertucci field watches are AWESOME! I've destroyed "tough" mechanical watches when mountain biking just from the shaking and bouncing. Also, the solid lug bars are great for active sports; I've also lost 2 watches when mountain biking due to broken spring bars. You should note that you can get Bertucci field watches with sapphire crystal and, in the "Americana" series, can get very tough, all metal, hand assembled in America quartz movements as well. The 4 o'clock crown is great as it doesn't dig into the back of one's hand when cycling. I love my Bertucci and have not yet found anything even close in comparison for truly active sports.

@ninjasrose1653 ya mechanical watches are more for watch collectors IMO. This guy complains about the seconds hand not hitting all the markers but people buy mechanical watches in the thousands and non of them are going to keep as accurate time as even a cheap quartz watch, yes they look pretty but they loose seconds everyday so it's kind of funny how "snobs" complain about quartz watches not hitting every second to me Not to mention this cheap watch could probably take more abuse then a Rolex if your talking real outdoor stuff. We all have our own preferences and that's ok but quartz watches won't fail you period.

I've got to admit I'm not a huge "field Watch Fan" as a fashion statement. And I appreciate Quartz only as an utilitarian feature. A true "field watch" to me is literally a watch that I am going to wear in the field. As a former Marine this to me is a part of my survival gear meaning it must be virtually indestructible, water proof to the highest level (at least 200m) and dependable. All this can be accomplished by your cheapest G-Shock, Mine i bought at Walmart on sale for $45 15 years ago and it has survived Caving, Repelling, Mountain Biking, White water Kayaking, Multi-Day Hikes on the Appalachian Trail, and has still served me well as a part of my essential gear as a Medical Responder. What many describe as a "Modern Field Watch" is what I would consider an "Everyday watch" a watch that will go from work to play to casual dining with the wife seemlessly. For that my pick is the Orient Ray II on a basic nato band and at around $120 I still get a mechanical in house movement that connects me with the piece like I've never experience with any Quartz.
@1973vanguard
@1973vanguard 4 жыл бұрын
Agreed. I was USAF, and we wore G-shocks. To me, a field watch has to encompass these four features: 1. Lume, whether by tritium tubes or superluminova. 2. A compass. 3. A countdown timer. 4. Solar power. To me, that's the ultimate field watch.

I think that with this watch it boils down to wether you like the looks of it or not. Except for the titanium case it is a basic Quartz watch. But If you're into field watches I think you can see the appeal of it. It's a good looking field watch in my opinion (I don't mind the quartz movement), the shape of the case is very cool. Bertucci is a brand with much experience with military watches, so you get that as well. A good watch to buy in my opinion. Great review, Jory (I only remember the scientist character).

The "Fold & Tuck System" actually is a unique thing. Those stitched hash-marks at the end of the band help friction-lock the folded tip under the keeper. Kinda neat, really. I have the A-6A aluminum model, which is a bit more streamlined in design. Incredibly legible and pleasing dial design. And whatever minor choices were made with the case dimensions and shape were exactly the correct ones, too. Great (and affordable) field watch.

I've bought the cheapest 'fibre reinforce poly-resin' version of this watch for less than half the price and am very happy with it. I like the strap too and they make a rubber watch guard for extra protection. Mine misses the markers occasionally but I don't spend time watching the second hand - I just need it to show me the watch is working. I can also remember what day it is so I don't need the date complication either which is not on the cheaper model. I think that Bertucci have expanded their range since this video. They now have models with the Ameriquartz movement as well as Swiss and Japanese movements. You can now also get them in resin, aluminium, steel and titanium and with sapphire. They also have ceramic coated and luminous cases. More expensive mechanical field watches seem like an oxymoron to me. Ideally field watches should be tough, reliable, accurate, easy to read, light, compact and replaceable. If I bought a more expensive watch I would be frightened to wear it in 'the field'.

I paid $184. on Amazon. Best money I’ve ever spent on a work watch. I wear this watch on the cheapest NATO strap I can find. The band that comes with the watch is VERY heavy duty. If I were to get hung-up in a piece of farm machinery with the original strap, my hand would come off before the strap failed. I’m hoping the cheap strap fails before my hand does. Actually, the strap is great and does have a retention feature. There are extra lines of stitching that cross the band at the end. That stitching actually provides enough of a detent to make a big difference. I actually have bought Bertucci straps for other watches. They are that good and superior to most other zulu/nato type straps.

I gave it a like but one very important feature about Bertucci is the fixed pins. The body and pins are machined out of one piece making it extremely durable but forget about putting on a 2 piece fancy strap. Zulu or Nato (or other one piece) strap it is. I really like the Bertucci straps since they are as tough as the watch. In the old days they used to have automatic mechanical watches but they were more expensive of course. I did replace a 3 year battery on my Bertucci myself with no problems at all. They also have 4 or 5 years and in your case the Lithium 10 years battery. Buying a new battery every few years (and change it yourself) is much cheaper than having your mechanical watch serviced. With these fixed pins and therefor limited strap options this will never be a dress watch but always a rugged field watch as intended.

I bought the Vaer Quartz watch. I like the style over the other 3 watches, It looks like one of the famous "Dirty Dozen" watches used in WW2. You can easily Dress the Vaer up for a Date/Job. Or put a Nato strap on it and go Surfing, Camping, Mountain Climbing, Air Racing, ect... Did I mention the Vaer is assembled in the Good Old U.S.A.?

I have 2 Bertucci's both 40mm. The first is titanium 200m with sapphire crystal and the second is the black fibre resin case w/50m water resistance. I put the Titanium on a tri color blk/olive/red Crown & Buckle Nato strap. Looks very sharp. Lum on both is stellar. Olive green Bertucci band for the black one. Both are dead accurate. Have many watches but Bertucci gets the use.

Got a stainless steel version and really love it. Gets more comments and compliments than any other affordable watch I own. Fits great too, but not so much with the provided strap. I have 6.75 inch wrists, and the thickness of the provided strap causes the strap to bulge out a bit. I put it on a bond style elastic single pass nato and it's frickin awesome now. Super comfortable and fits like a glove.

I was pleasantly surprised to see you do a video of this watch. This is the watch I wear most now on weekends as it is perfect around the house, out in the yard, going pick up groceries or food etc. it is Saturday and I have it on now. I really like this style for a casual weekender type watch. I had a similarly styled Seiko automatic which just fit me too small, plus it did had a worse water resistance and was not titanium so I sold. Plus for this type of watch the quartz actually is better as the Seiko automatic lost power so quickly so i was constantly resetting it which was a pain as the crown was tiny. For my nicer automatics I do have a winder. However, this is great just toss into a drawer or on a shelf and it is always ready to go. 4 things sold me on this watch. 1) Style/attractive watch 2) Titanium, love the lightweight feel especially for summers in Florida where I live. 3) Water resistance 200 meters 4) Price i paid $130 brand new. Plus i don’t notice any issues with my second hand it seems spot on, yay, not that i care. Overall tough to beat an attractive, titanium watch with 200 meters of water resistance in the sub $150 price range.

I have 8 automatic watches, 2 quartz ... I prefer the automatic ones, but for work, camping, climbing and mountaineering, mountaineering and etc., I prefer quartz or digital. If you are unlucky to break or spoil them, I prefer it to be a 100usd watch and not a 500usd automatic. In fact, quartz watches keep time better ... If you don't want to have to wind up or change the battery, choose an Ecodrive for example ... you won't have to worry about that for many years! ;)

I have a ten year old Bertucci A2-T (the same model as this one) that I paid $65 for ten years ago. It's been flawless. I'm primarily concerned with ruggedness and performance, so the misalignment of the second hand doesn't concern me (I hadn't noticed until today, frankly). My other watches have sapphire crystals, so I was a bit concerned when I got this, but titanium for $65 sold me. I've dragged the watch through all my brutal activities, and have about a dozen tiny gashes in the titanium of the bezel, but not a mark on the mineral crystal. I intentionally bought for an inexpensive quartz watch because some of my recreational activities could have damaged a mechanical movement. It's been flawless in its functionality. As a marker of status, not so much.

Papa John, Fabit Don's pizza, Don Sinacci, baby face Goodman, David Beckham, Simton Sutherbee, John Thick, Kevin zodiac, German accent, inspector timeteller, special agent Goodman, and I believe Hans German scientist, the nighthawk. I know I'm missing a tone. I love the look of this watch, and would love to see it on my wrist, but I think I agree with you, there Orient defender is the better buy. That being said I love the look of this one and love titanium. Good videos by the way, keep it up!

Greetings from northen Sweden and a fellow watch entusiast. Great review. I have a Bertucci A-3P Nato as a beater and it does take a beating as I am a mechanic on city buses. It's been soaked in old motoroil and drenched in antifreeze, I have been carving out dirt and mud from the wheelhouses and you name it. It just keeps on ticking and barely a scratch on it as it's a fiber shell. I did put it on another strap as it was a bit over kill in my opinion. I guess you can put the strap on the towtruck and pull the bus along with it,, hahaha, joking but a tough strap.

One of my fave watches ever was my quartz bond seamaster, for the simple fact that it was pretty and I could grab it anytime and it would always be ticking. No setting needed. Greetings from northen Sweden and a fellow watch entusiast. Great review. I have a Bertucci A-3P as a beater and it does take a beating as I am a mechanic on city buses so it's a harsh enviroment. It's been soaked in old motoroil and drenched in antifreeze and it just keeps on ticking, it's got a few nicks on that raised bezel but that's about it. I rather like it and the one thing about it is that it's almost too light wheigt, I like to feel the watch on my wrist. Oh yeah,, that strap is hardcore heavy duty. Stay safe and take care.

IMO, a totally absurd and snobby review. Any credibility you have went down the tubes with this. First, the five Bertuccis my family and I own are sensational (four quartz and one automatic). Good looking and durable, with tremendous timekeeping accuracy. The Bertucci straps are the best I have found. They are durable and extremely comfortable. They are truly a large step above others. Quit worrying about boxes and the printing on the boxes. That is a non issue when looking at wearing a watch. When I go to watch reviews, I want a watch review, not a marketing or packaging analysis. Stick to the pertinent facts about the watch itself.

I think it's hilarious how people moan about some Quartz second hands being a little bit out of line and yet I bet the watch will only lose about 5 seconds a year 😂 🤣 Compared to a mechanical that will lose 5 seconds a day...but carry on bashing watches that can actually tell the time.

I love your videos; however, I think that you need to amend this video as Bertucci lists 7 sapphire models on their website. These are part of their titanium lineup. They also sell watches made with resin, aluminum and stainless steel cases as well as their Americana, which has a "precision all-metal jeweled USA assembled movement". My son and I own the A2-T and love them. I see them as a high value watch for the features that I look for. I totally agree with you that they are not marketing the features of their own watches that watch guys like us look for. I find our A2-T's to be as almost as accurate as my Citizen 8180. Thank you for your great videos and humor.
