Beryl was entering the final decade of her life at this point. She sadly died on 13th October 1996, aged 77 at a hospital in Buckinghamshire, from complications after knee replacement surgery for arthritis. Audiences simply loved this lady. That's never more obvious than in her appearances on BBC1's 'The Good Old Days'. No matter who was on the bill with her, Bery's performance was guaranteed to bring the house down, she was a fantastic live artists. Thankfully some of her star turns can be found on KZbin. I thought the interviewer here, Denis Tuohy, was superb - well prepared on his subject, and insightful in his questions. I Googled him and he was still going strong in 2021, living in his native Ireland where he'd just published his autobiography.

Oh that sweet face! She is just adorable! I wrote her a fan letter when I was ten, and she sent me such a lovely letter and signed photo back. It came on headed notepaper with her home address printed on it, I've never forgotten it - 'Honeypot Cottage, Wraysbury'. Beryl was a great cat lover and had many in various states of friendliness and feral at Honeypot Cottage, which stood on the River Thames and had round rooms she said were hard to wallpaper! Her autobiography 'So Much Love' is a great read, I highly recommend it. Out of print but available second hand for pennies on Amazon. Beryl never married, which surprised and impressed me. all evidence suggests she liked men very much, but she wanted to keep her independence. A lady ahead of her times! Thanks for this upload - gorgeous memories of a dear, amazing and hugely talented lady, and a British legend, Beryl Reid is much missed.

Oops, I stand corrected, Beryl was married and divorced twice! Her second divorce happened in 1966 and she remained single and childless the rest of her life, so she was independent as I stated.

So articulate, focused and clear with a real talent for telling humorous stories off the cuff. Truly talented and very versatile. Also, quite steely. No wonder she was able to bring so much complexity, humour and pathos to the unforgettable character Sister George.

Lovely interviewer who asked intelligent, insightful things and quickly established a good rapport. Beryl Reid's philosophy of living in the moment and knowing when you are happy stayed with me after I read her autobiography SO MUCH LOVE many years ago. She recalled a sunny day when she was a child, and she ran up to her beloved mum and said: "Isn't it a beautiful day Mummy?" And her mum replied: "Well you're certainly getting your share of it Beryl". Very sweet - and I think that summed up her life really, she had such a positive outlook on life and grabbed her opportunities as they arose.

I loved Beryl Reid all my life. It all began with The Archie Andrew's Show. I always looked forward to Monica and Marlene and her Brummie accent - I was only a little boy. I remember one of the Marlene jokes to this day. Marlene: Good evening each. My name's Marlene and I'm from the MCC. Archie: The Marylebone Cricket Club? Marlene: No. The Marylebone Creep Club.

I think she was right about kids. And you can see, it was a sacrifice for her, and for the right reasons. You should think of the child over what you 'want'.
