I used to play Berzerk a lot, and I don't think it is a coincidence that the first two deaths known to occur while playing an arcade game were on Berzerk machines. The game was genuinely unnerving. First there was the zap noise when you got killed, which sounded like a bird flying into a high tension wire. Then there was the progression of the game, which sped up as you got through the levels, along with the randomness when you started a new level - sometimes you'd get screwed by the starting position and die immediately. Because of these details, the game did a great job of getting your heart racing, and I can see why someone with a heart condition might die from playing it, especially after a particularly stressful game. By the way, 16,660 would have been a huge score for Berzerk, rarely achieved by even the best players. Once you got past 7,500, the game got seriously fast. Reaching 16,660 would take the reflexes of a hockey goalie along with some luck - as mentioned before, getting screwed by a bad starting position wasn't uncommon.

This was my game back in the 80's !!! It was usually the first I would play whenever I went to the arcade , and had many high scores . I admit that when " Evil Otto " would emerge I did feel quite a rush and maybe faster heartbeat , but never any illness . Just pure joy ! In fact the one at my arcade was on sale for around $300 , and all I could think about was how the hell I could buy it !
