Great vid, enjoyed it. Found this out from the net about the pioneering speech which shows like you mentioned how far ahead it was at the time "Berzerk is one of the first video games to use speech synthesis, featuring talking robots. In 1980, computer voice compression was extremely expensive, estimated to have cost the manufacturer US$1,000 per word; the English version has a thirty-word vocabulary"

I wish I still had my vectrex, it was stolen during a move. The crazy thing about it was that the kid wanted my broken RC truck, and he offered me the vectrex, I traded in a heartbeat.

Yea they are not cheap Craig, but for £200 you could get a loose one with a couple of game’s. Honestly you would get so much fun out of the machine, I can’t recommend it enough Mate.

My big brother had a Vectrex right when it came out (in London, Canada). I played a tonne of Berzerk and Star Trek in the cold and dark Canadian Winter. The audio is wonderful on this system, and I can only imagine how imposing it would sound on your setup. I need to move into a new house with some more space before I can pick one up though. At first I was against the NoBuzz because the buzzing with the CRT was a part of the experience for me, but seeing it on a Hifi setup with clean audio... Changed my mind! Cheers!

Great memories. For me sound effects and music are such a big part or the experience playing games. And if the option there is only to enhance the experience I’m all for it. The buzz I find super annoying now when I hear other vectrex. It’s got two channels so the sound through a good amp is absolutely amazing and can’t recommend it enough. Thanks for watching mate

What a amazing Vectrex setup mate. Must be a real joy to play the Vectrex classics on. The speech on Berzerk was really ahead of his time. I also really love speech on the arcade classics, adds to the quality of the game if used in the right way. On Berzerk they definitely did. I'm already looking forward to your next vids.

Hey Alex, Sounds amazing!! That is so cool! ....It does sound though like it's saying "Chicken fight like a Grown-up!" or a "Grow Nut!"... ;) It definitely should be "Robot" though like you said!! - I have that Bezerk sample from the real machine at the end of everyone of my episodes!! :) Keep up the great work mate! That speech sounds amazing!! I think I’m gonna invest in one of those atari voxs...didn’t vic say they had issues out of the box? Did you have to get yours sorted
@TheArcadeArchive
@TheArcadeArchive 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Steve Yea he did because I think some vectex models are slightly different. I’m not sure exactly what the issues were but apparently it didn’t sound great. He sent them back and the guy rectified it. Worth asking vic before you purchase. But for £50 plus postage it’s well worth it. Plus there are plenty of games that support the vox 👍
