Besigye and Lutale remanded to Luzira over security charges

The Army Court Martial has remanded former Presidential Candidate Dr. Kizza Besigye and Hajji Obeid Lutale to Luzira Prison until the 2nd of December. The two were arrested in Nairobi on Saturday and returned to Uganda, where they were charged today by the Army Court Martial in Makindye. The duo is facing four charges, including two counts of possession of guns and bullets, as well as engaging in meetings in a foreign territory, where they reportedly plotted to secure assistance to destabilize the country. The two denied the charges and were remanded to Luzira Prison. However, their lawyer, Erias Lukwago, called for the matter to be dismissed, arguing that the Army Court Martial did not have jurisdiction to handle the case, as Sudhir Byaruhanga reports.
