As always Mark...really nice stuff. Makes me miss a guitar I had for 40 years , a 1966 Guild F-212. It was a bear to play but way worth the effort. Had to sell it in 2010 to help pay some medical bills. Thanks for featuring so much stuff on the 12 string. These videos are fun to watch and always have something new in it that I didn't know.

Talk about a time warp, I was 11 years old and AM radio was the way of rock n' roll music. My older sisters kept the music rolling, thus, I was indoctrinated to listen and eventually play guitar. I owned a Ricky 12 string with Rick-O-Sound... I traded that guitar for 2 Takamine's an F400 and F307.... I was into folk and Bluegrass music.. But thanks for the trip down memory lane

Good choices and nicely played! In your pre-history you night have mentioned, alongside Lead Belly and Blind Willie McTell, Tejano music pioneer and star Lydia Mendoza. Her twelve-string playing was astoundingly powerful and musical. The introduction to her first and biggest hit, Mal Hombre (released in 1934 when she was just 18), set the tone for a long career of playing and singing. A Texan of Mexican extraction, she never learned English and never really got discovered by by folk audiences who would have loved her music.

Love that 12-string sound but how could you leave out Dick Rosmini, the 12-string master of them all?
@8MinuteAxe Жыл бұрын
Hey Dan. I've talked about Dick on the channel before. Also other members of the Village Folk Revival (Bob Gibson, Dave Van Ronk) and Berkeley scene. Although Im not a hige fan of the primitive guitar movement , I was in the front row for Leo Kottke last year when he came through Atlanta and I played the fast version of Vaseline Machine Gun in a video I did about Kottke. It probably took longer to work that song up than any other performance I've ever done. 12 string, slide, and complex fingerstyle patterns...all at the same time. As far as Dick being the greatest of all time, he was certainly marketed as that. Everything I've heard is pretty straightforward but it's cool and if that's who inspires you that's good thing. The most complex and creative 12 string player I've ever heard is Ralph Towner. Some of the stuff is just ridiculous. He plays all 12 strings individually at times. I never heard of him until I stumbled across him about a year ago. I'm overdue on a good video about all the late 50s and early 60s 12 stringers. Basically, everything before Walk Right In. I really appreciate you checking out the video and weighing in. I've been doing the channel for about 3.5 years and focusing on the 12 string for almost three. There are way more 12 stringers put there than I thought. Have a great Sunday and take care. Mark
