Absolute beginner is the guy that is overwhelmed by the choices. Do I get the Bambu P2S, the Creality K1C, or the Ender 3 v3 SE? I want something easy but something I am not going to want to throw away six months from now.

To me a beginner is just someone who hasn't used one yet. I used a Monoprice select mini III ever since it came out until about 3 months ago and it died unceremoniously. I am not actually awaiting the shipping of my K1C. Ever since the other printer died I have been researching and watching many videos on different machines and slicer settings and materials. This is going to be a huge step up for me.

Having the printer can be the gateway to learning those things that the gatekeeper mindset issues as edicts to entry. Downloading things that others have posted leads to "I like this but wish it was different this way" or "nobody has this thing that I'd like to print the way I need it" then leads to learning modeling software to make the thing the way they want it. I feel like a lot of gatekeepy ridiculousness can become an accomplishment when you take a run at it from the opposite direction instead of getting speedbumped by some "expert" and abandoning an interest.

Printed a 3d model in a library once, have held several 3d prints, but initially I didn't know what to do with it. Looked a bit gimmicky to me and I didn't see a lot of potential for my own use. Now I am getting curious as I am looking more into tinkering with Flipper Zero extensions (WiFi card etc.) and LoRa devices where the only cases for those things are 3D prints. None of it seems commercially available except from "creator stores" and most of them shipping from overseas, incurring import duties and high shipping costs. There are no small scale (conusmer level) shops in the vicinity that accept 3D printing jobs and the libraries stopped offering this service, so now I am looking at maybe getting into this myself...

As a beginner, I want a 3d printer that I don't have to mess around with internal settings. I wanna be able to design my own stuff. The slicer is easy to use and I ends up giving me nice prints without worrying that I have spent £500 on something I will have problems with later down the line. And not have people arguing which company is best.

Technically I haven’t paid the 3D printing dues. If you just want your prints to work, get a Bambu, if you like to tinker get something else.

So, I would consider myself a beginner. I have never owned a 3D printer, but I'm looking at getting one. I have played around a bit in blender and had like two small RC parts printed for me by someone else, based on downloaded models that I possibly made very slight adjustments to, but I know nothing about different filament types, bed heat or height, what size or temp the nozzle should be. I have never used slicing software and I don't know if it is universal or if there is one that works on all 3d printers. I also don't know if I should get a cover or something to regulate the ambient temperature and if things like humidity make a difference. I am also scared of things getting stuck to the bottom, so I have heard of a heated bed but I have no idea if that depends on filament or heat or whatever. TL:DR Someone who can put something together with screws, install software and download 3d models.

You mentioned a preference for using the creality slicer vs. the bambu slicer, and I was hoping you could elaborate a little more about your findings in this regard (perhaps in a future video). I don't wish to be argumentative at all, but I personally had the opposite experience, preferring the bambu slicer over the creality one (I own both a k1 max and p1s+ams). in fact, I liked the bambu slicer so much that I ended up grabbing orca slicer (Which is pretty much just a more open port of bambu slicer) and have standardized on using it for all of my machines (k1 max, p1s+ams, voron v2, and soon a voron 0). I'm just curious about your thoughts on the matter. thanks!
@3dpprofessor
@3dpprofessor 7 ай бұрын
I prefer using the creality slicer *on the phone* only. On the computer they're both pretty comparable. But on the phone, CrealityCloud is an actual slicer that you can feed any STL to and it works, where as BambuHandy only works with project files uploaded by their users, and you don't get to rearrange or scale or do anything with the files. That's why I prefer CrealityCloud.

Easy, A1 with AMS, just wait for it. Mini is great, but you'll outgrow it too fast. March is coming soon. Absolute beginner is someone who saw a 3D printer at a friends house and was fascinated. I've seen my wife go from newb to competent in a few weeks who was turned on to it by seeing me do it, and by the level of polish that the Bambu A1 offers. Somehow, she's now running her A1 and my A1 both in her craft room, leaving me with an empty space in my office.

@3dpprofessor 7 ай бұрын
My problem with the A1 is that it's a bed slinger. It feels like a huge step backwards to take the build volume of the C1X and make it a bed slinger. But it did bring down the price.

@@3dpprofessor having both, I acknowledge that there's some things that I really would use the CoreXY for, such as a light saber or some other tall and narrow part. But for more horizontal parts, the bed slinger is fine although about 10% slower. And I can get two A1 + AMS for the price of one P1S + AMS and $38. Plus the AMS Lite is so much easier to deal with.

The problem with 3D printers in that price range is they require a lot more work to get going with, and there's more of a chance that you'll get frustrated and quit, throwing away your initial investment. These printers are the cheapsest I can recommend that you will likely be successful with. That said, I much prefer the Kingroon KP3S over Ender anything. I have a video where I expose that Ender's documentation is so deficient that it actually works against new users.

Basically, a slicer is a computer program that takes a model (usually a STL file) and tells the printer how to print it one layer (or slice) at a time. There are a lot of settings in the slicer program you can tweak to make sure the model prints successfully, such as supports for parts of a model that need them, how thick the model's walls/floor/ceiling is, infill (how solid and sturdy the interior of a model is), etc. Bambu lab has their own slicer which is derived from Prusa slicer, another common one is called Cura.

How to define a beginner Mmmm i have been 3D printing for about 3 years. I bought into the Creality ender V1 and still use it today. I guess a beginner is likely not to have some or all of the following skills: Able to level the bed manually Able to produce a test print to check performance and recognise what the people(s) is/are. Able to do 3D CAd design for own models Has a purpose for buying the thing in the first place. Has limited or no experience of different filaments and their properties Has a partner who sees no point in the "new toy" at all, (until they print something that repairs something at zero cost.)

@3dpprofessor
@3dpprofessor 4 ай бұрын
Excellent questions. You plug them into the wall. If they need a power supply, they come with it. There isn't really a universal software, but there are a few common ones. Cura is a pretty common one, but the better 3D printers actually make their own slicers, which seems to be the best way to insure the best experience. But they're all pretty similar. The biggest thing you need to worry about when it comes to filament, is diameter and material type. The most common diameter these days is 1.75 and the most common material type is PLA. And PLA is the material that you'll most likely want to start with because it's definitely 3D printing in easy mode. I hope that helps.

I watch all these amazing projects on KZbin and TikTok .. and i wanr to do the same .. 1) i dont know how to start .. 2) what printer should i use ? 3) What type of plastic wire i should use ? 4 )What colors are available ? 5) i dont know what program i should use to design prints or where to get the ready made designs. 6) the heat temperature of the printer. 7) some times i see videos of prints finished and been used at once .. some times the prints are taken to some another mashine to be soked in some king a liquid.. 8) some times i see multiple color prints . Some time its a single color. Dose that depends on the printer ? 9) Is AliExpress printers good enough? Sorry to many questions..
@3dpprofessor
@3dpprofessor 7 ай бұрын
Sorry for the late reply, but lemme answer as much as I can: 1. This video is a good place for it. 2. This video offers 3 good options. 3. PLA. Stick with PLA until you get used to it, then branch off into other stuff, but start with PLA> 4. A whole fricking rainbow, and then some. 5. I recommend starting with Tinkercad. It looks like a children's toy but it's robust enough for everyone. 6. All that's handled by the printer, you don't really need to work with it. 7. I have no idea what liquid soaking finishing you're seeing, but that's not common. Most prints, especially PLA, work as-is, no finishing necessary. 8. Yes, only certain printers, like the BambuLabs A1 featured in this video, can do multiple colors in a single print. The vast majority can only do one color, and one color is enough for most people. 9. You get what you pay for. The 3D printers you're likely to buy on AliExpress are likely cheaply made and will require a lot of effort on your part to get up and running. Chances are you'll use them for a while, maybe have some success, most likely experience some failures, and possibly conclude that 3D printing just isn't for you, whereas if you use one of the printers I suggest you'll likely have a lot more success and are therefore more likely to stick with it. I hope that helps.
@pacificcoastminiatures
@pacificcoastminiatures 7 ай бұрын
For 7) as the Prof didn't answer it fully: the prints you see being soaked in some kind of liquid are printed on resin 3D printers. These use a liquid resin and each layer of the print is exposed to UV light to solidify it. Prints need to be washed to remove any uncured resin and usually the washing liquid is IPA. And the prints then need to be cured for a few minutes under a UV light. The advantage of resin is that it produces more detailed parts, perfect for miniatures or in my case my model railroad. If you want to keep it simple, stick with the FDM (that use filament on spools) printers shown in this video where the melted filament cools by itself into layers - the printed parts don't need any washing or curing. They're ready to use after they come off the printer.

I think not thinking about price misses the mark a bit, especially beginners don’t know how much they want to invest at the start of their printing journey. Most people would be pretty happy with an Elegoo Neptune 3/4 or similar.
@3dpprofessor
@3dpprofessor 7 ай бұрын
I feel different. While I agree that the initial investment should be kept low to minimize the loss should they decide that this just isn't for them. But I think "most people", if they get a 3D printer that requires a lot of effort to get up and running, will more likely conclude that 3D printing just isn't for them and quit, so what's the point? What's the point of saving a few bucks if it means nearly everyone isn't going to go with it, where as if you spend a little more you're much more likely to stick with it and make the world a better place. I chose these 3D printers because they're the cheapest you can get that are also easy to setup and use. Any cheaper and you're throwing your money away. Yes, you're not throwing away a lot, but why throw away any if you don't need to.

It's not fast, but that isn't a problem for me. Everybody has different expectations and ideas and I think your video gives some good advice.

To me, an absolute beginner is someone who has never used a 3D printer before. But that's where the similarities end for me. Some people who want to get into 3D just want to print models off the Internet. Then there are those who want to use the 3D printer to bring ideas to life. And then there are those who want to go deeper and learn how the printers work. Strangely enough, I never find anything for the last group in the recommendations for beginners. It's as if no one believes that they exist.
@3dpprofessor
@3dpprofessor 7 ай бұрын
I think, for me, the reason I don't cater my beginner recommendations to the tinkerers is because there already is a vast army of recommendations for them. From the beginning of 3D printing, that's who 3D printers were for. The RepRap Mendel wasn't necessarily a printer you'd use as a workhorse. However, that scene is still alive in the Voron line of 3D printers, and people are doing amazing things with them.

beginner, I need a 3d printer so I can create robots basically, I need to make parts which will be functional. I dont have a lot I can send on a 3d printer but I may do, I have £2000 from my bursary but I will have around £700 ish saved for other needed education stuff during ir after my course, and atm I will be spending £100 ish or more for components, and another £100 or more for needed stuff like a psu, soldering kit and such. so the 3d printer I am looking at is the creality v3 SE but I want something that will be able to print more than just pla+ things like tpu, abs, PETG, ect. I do not have the money yet due to stuff going on with the university that is giving it to me, something on there side. So im hoping by the time I do get my money, I should be able to spend more money for a 3d printer so ill have more of a selection, or if new printers come out that meet my needs

To those that choose to "gateway" 3D printing for others I would suggest that the vast majority of road vehicle owners (a) were not born with the knowledge of how to Drive and (b) cannot service, maintain, repair or modify their vehicles themselves. So why demand that of someone a beginner to 3D printing. That said ... A great video today, I loved your logic and reasoning, also the selection of machines although I was surprised at the K1 featuring (until you explained your rationale, in which case YES). I've been at this malarkey for over 9 years and it is easy to forget those first steps (Slic3r anyone?). The whole thing appealed to my mechanical, electrical and electronics leanings. It was a techy Nirvana of new things to learn. Way beyond your own description of a Beginner today. I am thrilled at the new machines, fast, reliable, part of an ecosystem, enabling Creators while still satisfying the techy geeky folk. More to the hobby has got to be a good thing!
@andreas.grundler
@andreas.grundler 7 ай бұрын
It's a bit different. A car is expensive enough that it is worth taking it to the garage for repairs. But most 3D printers are so cheap that a repair by a specialist is often more expensive than buying a new one. It is also not expected that you already know everything when you start with the hobby, but you have to be willing to learn. Unfortunately, many people nowadays approach technology with the expectation that they don't have to learn anything and that everything works automatically. However, 3D printers are nowhere near that point.
@DannyThompson54
@DannyThompson54 7 ай бұрын
I would suggest that in principle it is no different. I can strip and rebuild a Car, repair, mechanical and electrical. Learned from a young age. I would not call out anyone who cannot. To 3D printers the same should apply as they move ever closer to becoming Appliances. Load up the media, send the file, remove the print. The bar to entry has been lowered with the new machines with ecosystems to work in the background. As with Car owners of the early 1900s the technically inclined are no longer going to own the domain of 3D Printing. The door is opening to the Creatives who will be consumers not technicians. 3D printing becoming less of a Black Art. That is a good and welcome thing.
@3dpprofessor
@3dpprofessor 7 ай бұрын
For sure, when 3D printing started, it was defiantly in it's model T phase. Functional, but hardly easy to use. And still there were a lot of us that either had the skill and determination to wrestle it into working. But for 3D printing to really grow, it's got to get out of the shop (so to speak) and into an appliance. And it's not there yet, but these machines represent a quantum leap in that direction.

The question is whether they will release a new printer for it or whether it will be an add-on for the existing printers. The current printers have no mechanism to cut the filament. Therefore, they will probably try to form a tip at the end of the filament similar to what other multi-color systems like the Prusa MMS, the 3D Chameleon or the Enraged Rabbit Feeder already do.

I have a few concerns about this video; the links for Creality, and Bambu Lab are tracking links what is he tracking don't know, and don't care he is not tracking me! The other concern of mine is he is comparing apples, and oranges! The Creality is what is call a 3D printer in a box because it looks like a box every of 3D printer is in side the inclose case looking like the box you see to his right (your left) which by the wat cost 100 bucks more or less than the Bambu Lab A1 mini! As for the Bambu Lab that 3D printer is what is call a bed slinger because that flat thing in the middle moves back, and forth it is call the bed! The Creality's bed moves up and down only the 3D printer head that is where the melted filament comes out to make your part that moves right to left, back, and forth and there are many great resaon to a 3D printer in a box however the Bambu A1 mini is not in a box a there are great reasons however their not the same reason as the Creality ones, so that is why I call it apples, and oranges! However the biggest wrong he did here is mislabeling the Creality was is it a mistake don't know don't care because in the back ground we see many other 3D printers one of which is the Prusa MK 3 or earlier, so he knows 3D printers very well he is not allow to make this big a mistake, and not get call put for it as I am doing here. he call the 3D printer to his right a Creality K1, however there are three 3D printers that start with Creality K1, but all three of them have more letters to their given names, so real which 3D printer is he talk about because the other two cost a lot more! The one I guess he is talking about is the Creality K1 SE, and what is real crazy is this other 3D printer called Creality Ender-3 V3 is a bed slinger that cost a little bit less than the Creality K1 SE! I am not here to talk about what is a better buy between the two Creality 3D printer just get the fact right, so people can get what is really need, and not over spend needlessly which many could do believing this video when many things are way off base! I hear all the 3D printers talk about here are good however there is no 3D printer that does it all you get what you get, and you live with it; you need something else well you will have buy another 3D printer all 3D printers have limits even the high end ones! I have done many hours of research to know this much information, and I am a beginner in fact I do not own a 3D printer! What make a great beginner of anything is doing enough research in the subject your uninformed in to be able to know when someone peeing on your leg as he tells you it is raining! Buy beware of snake oil salemen even on KZbin do you research prove me wrong, I would leave links, but KZbin don't like them in the comments, so you have homework I did mine! Beginner? What's that? 😁A true beginner is someone who wants to build something but has no idea of what 3D entails. Yes, we can visualize in 3D but how to get there from nothing? I'm certainly a beginner. I just bought a printer (Flashforge 5M Pro) but haven't even turned it on yet. I do woodworking and use Sketchup to design woodworking, and even carpentry projects, so. I'm reasonably versed in 3D modeling. Indeed woodworking is why I decided to finally get into 3D printing. I'm getting PO'd with equipment manufacturers not agreeing on what 4" means. No two 4" dust ports are the same. Literally. I'm always having to jury-rig pieces to get from here to there. Once I thought of that angle, well tool hangers would be nice. I can easily enough buy this stuff but it's expensive and never quite what I want. I can do better. Enter 3D printing. Because I've been doing 3D modeling for ten years, or so, I'm ahead of the game. ...or maybe I'm just delusional. I know that Sketchup isn't ideal as a design system for 3D printers, but where to go next? I haven't a clue. KZbin, here I come.
