Am looking for a lightweight tent (for thru hiking), room to fit myself plus kit with some liveability for long hours inside, self standing, 1kg approx, robust in wind (for mountain camping), outer pitch first. Could this be it? :)
@AmblingTrails2 жыл бұрын
It certainly seems like it could be the perfect fit. The debate I had internally, was consideration of the 15. However, everywhere seemed out of stock, so I land on the 10. Not a lot of spare room but certainly the closes to your 1k target which is what I was looking for. I’ve used it for quite a few winter nights now, and I’m satisfied it was the right choice for me. Best of luck with your mission ;)

Hi, stumbled (no pun intended) across your channel this evening. It caught my eye because I'm planning to walk the section of the Cumbrian Way between Coniston and Keswick in a few days time. I've been browsing your other videos and noticed this one. Looks a fascinating tent. I've never used a single skin model before. The closest I've come is when I've slept under a tarp occasionally. Everywhere seems out of stock at the moment when it comes to the Sigma S10. I was thinking of taking my Hilleberg Enan next week if the forecast remains the same. Wet and mild. The Enan is classed as a 3 season tent but I'm sure I'd get away with it. I've always thought of the Enan as a lightweight tent but it's heavy compared to the Sigma. It does have a much larger vestibule by the look of things with plenty of room for cooking and storing wet gear etc. Anyway, before I bore you to tears by rambling on I'd just like to say I've really enjoyed your videos and as a result have subscribed to your channel. All the best and take care.

Thanks for stumbling and appreciate the sub. Also, great to hear all your thoughts, always fascinating to hear what other people are doing and the kit they have. Best of luck with you plans.

Nice review 👍 I used an S15 last October backpacking the Offa's Dyke path. It preformed really well in the wind and rain but on the penultimate day of the walk the strap holding the bracing poll came away in the wind. I got a refund on the tent but I'm missing it so will probably buy an S10 because it doesn't have the extra 3rd pole. I also found that anything touching the insides of the tent always got wet from condensation. I have a crux waterproof sleeping bag so that wasn't a problem but I kept everything else inside dyneema dry bags. There was plenty of room to cook in the porch with the outer door closed on the S15 but your workaround for the S10 seems to be ok and I would use an extra peg to hold the door open as I always carry extra in case I lose a peg on trail.

That’s a coincidence, I’m doing OD now in the 10! It certainly does perform well in the rain and wind and agree with all your other points. I do feel space is a bit tight occasionally so I had wondered if I had done the right thing it getting the 10 rather than the 15, but your comment as cemented the 10 firmly in place so thanks for the info. Thanks for the comment, really appreciate it. Cheers

I've never pegged a tent down before putting the poles in. I would be interested to try it though. Especially in windy conditions.
@AmblingTrails3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment, I guess you've made the right distinction there, more likely for four season conditions, also you have to be careful of not creating too much tension on the poles, so on reflection, I should have emphasised these points.

@@AmblingTrails I did this mistake and found out last night when i went to sleep in it, the tent was too taunt for the zipper door! eek

I use a trekking pole or long stick with a guy line to make a proper porch out of one door.

Yep, that is certainly what I do now! Thanks for the comment and watch.

Im 6ft 3in and manage OK with my S10 - yes its a tight fit but any single person tent is when your tall and in comparison with other 1 man tents the floor space and head hight is very similar.

Is there any chance to buy this ten? I searched the whole internet. But everywhere it is sold out. Do anyone have an idea where I can buy it as second hand?
@AmblingTrails Жыл бұрын
Hi Tobias, been doing a bit of searching myself, there is a 2 person version on e-Bay at the moment. Best of Luck, Nigel

Just had a response from the manufacturer re the availability of this tent. "Yes, we intend to re-stock. We've not been able to make them because the DAC poles have been unavailable for some time. Still waiting for the factory to confirm production schedules, but we're planning to have them back for next spring" Appreciate you were looking for a second hand version, but I thought I would share this news anyway for interest.

I would put the poles in first and move the tent where I want it before pegging it down. If its windy I would peg down a guy line first or tie it to my pack.

Hello. I have seen "reviews" about the Sigma s10 from different people, and they all say that the width measurement is 80cm, although the official website shows 70cm. I wanted to know why this is. Have you measured it personally?
@AmblingTrails Жыл бұрын
Not yet, but for you I will do this tomorrow, 😁

is it still possible to buy the tent anywhere?
@AmblingTrails Жыл бұрын
Not sure is the honest answer, but I have sent a message to the manufacturer to ask if they intend to restock or discontinue the tent. I hope they still support the tent as it's by far my favourite tent, I still often use this in the UK, due to the weather conditions. Will get back to you with the reply I hope to receive! Cheers

Your tent is a lot like The North Face Stormbreak 1, mine has a fly and it is 1 pound 10 oz More, using total with 12 tent stakes and 4 guy lines. I do love the double zippers in the door! Found out last night staking down the tent before the poles made the inter tent too taunt.. eek
