I am a knot/line/rope tying guy. I thumb through Ashley's book often. I am very enamored with this craft. This video is absolutely wonderful! There is no goofy-ass talk, there is no Jive-ass loud "music", there is no crappy lighting or focusing or trying to do it with one hand while holding a darn phone to make the shots. There is only fantastic instructive video and very nice music! All this is very unusual in KZbin presentations. THANK YOU FOR A WONDERFUL PRESENTATION!!

Two days ago, with rain pelting down and the 17' boat rocking in the waves, I found a school of jumbo perch. The wind was quickly drifting me out of position and as luck would have it, I snagged my drop shot and broke off the fluorocarbon leader on my braid necessitating a quick retie and rerig of the double dropper loop. The surgeon's knot looks like something I may try next time because it actually looks like I could maybe tie that with cold, wet, dirty fingers in a rocking boat with the pressure on to get it done quickly and get back in the water. As elegant as these others seem, the practicality of doing them under the real pressures of a fishing boat seem at best, hopeful. In such situations, I seem to fall back on the old standard back to back uni knot for braid to mono. This has literally never failed however the surgeon's does look a bit easier. Thank You for doing this video.

there are easier ways(in my opinion) they all works, but I'd use only an FG if your mono and braid re about the same diameter, if the braid is 2/3 or less of your mono's diameter, the PR creates much more strengh and up to 30lb braid a sinker around 2 ounce/50-60 gramm work perfect and you don't need a bobbin, and even with 100lb, a outrigger for european catfish with the amount of weight you need in the snap works to, but the bobbin makes it much easier, the best way to tie the thinn braid to the sinker is to use an sli-clinch knot, so you'll always hafe enourg line to make your finish after letting the clinch slip. the problem with the fg is that you don't always hafe the same knot strengh (sometimes 90%, sometimes only 70%) and it weakens the braid, how stronger your braid is compared to it's diameter how more strengh you loose cause under full pressure the braid in a FG cuts thru itself, on a long and tight enough PR you'll never have this problem, only if you're tie it to tight with thinn mono, compared to the braid, it can weaken the mono, so if the braid is much stronger than the mono you better use the FG cause it doesn't matter if you're weaken the braid cause you'll have enough breaking strengh left and you won't weaken the mono. Splicing is also great and you can just splice a piece of hollow braid to your mainline and than splice it to your mono, but I would only do it with 100lb+ braid cause that's the range where it become a problem to tie an really tight PR, but it takes much longer, so the PR is a good choice for eyerything up to 100lb.
@maxscmidt38574 жыл бұрын
oh, and a PR and a splice even more live much longer than a FG
