I like that method Andy, I've used it with orange, white and green tungsten beads on top of a bed of soldering wire(environmentally friendlier) with thread covering it, it gets them down a wee bit quicker. Keep the vids coming!!!

Like hearing your thought process Andy. Millions of tying vids out there so it is a great point of difference 👍

you know what it's like Alex, there's no point changing a pattern for the sake of it, I just can't get past the tail nips on the normal pattern, mentally it messes with me while I'm fishing, and on those tough days when you're fishing for half a dozen bites it really bothers me!

Ieva and Andy Fishing yeah, totally agree. I tie mine like yours, but have probably not given it anywhere as much thought as to why.

Great video totally agree with bulky flies. I've found that if you secure the squirmy material with a small dubbing noodle, it doesn't seem to cut through the squirmy 👍

I do the same thing. I use a thin dubbing noodle for the for the collar and I have also found that it does not cut through the squirmy won’t material.

Nice color combo for the squirmy. I've found that you can use other UV resins, but if you start curing close to the fly, it heats up a lot and melts the material, so I start about 6 inches away and close in slowly. I'll have to give the thinman a go. Cheers in 2020

Hi Andy. I’m wondering if a little bit of heat shrink tube would add needed durability? Only a short piece at the tie in point..

Thanks for sharing this Andy - I hadn't heard of these until I saw your winter grayling pack video - I was dubious to say the least - but out of curiosity I tied a few up for an experiment last week - I simplified the tying a little putting the squirmy on in two pieces - no resin - and the bead close to the eye - A difficult day grayling fishing was saved using a pink worm with a chartreuse bead duo style - no grayling sorry to say - but two last minute out of season rainbows at least put a bend in my rod !!! - Winter Tight Lines - Steve.

Andy. A really good video and a clever tied squirmy. Is the amber colour your go to squirmy colour? I tied mine using two Fluro loops so that the squirmy material can be replaced easily.I got the idea from a Steve Cullen KZbin vid.

I use dubbing to make a collar on the squirmy worm. A really simple tie. However, I don’t tie mine with a bead. I usually have it trailing behind a weighted nymph.

Interesting video never considered that squirmy material would be so buoyant. Fished squirmys I've tied myself, generally keep the body slimmer and with a shorter tail maybe one and a quarter inch with great success!
@IBandAndyFishing4 жыл бұрын
It was a surprise to me! I much prefer the shorter squirmies, I totally agree with you 👍
@lewis8095 жыл бұрын
I’ve bought some squirmies from the Czech Republic last time I went that use almost a thin red ribbon instead of the bulky squirmy rubber. When I get a chance to go out I can say how effective it is but I’m curious to see if the fish care! Nice vid :)

If you were limited to two colours, which are your favourite?
@IBandAndyFishing5 жыл бұрын
Oooh good question! I like a natural colour with an orange bead, then probably the coral pink squirmy with the pink bead. That could change daily though!
