Whilst no brand is likely to overtake Montblanc in terms of general recognition, I do think Montegrappa has rather nicely cemented their position as the pen lover’s pen maker. They have it all - gorgeous designs, an attention to consumer demand and quality to match. Bravo!

Just purchased a nos ( new old stock) Omas " Tokyo) ....30 years sitting on a shelf. While steel nib...and more simply made...what a beautiful writing experience! For 200 clams....well worth it and a favorite writer, up there with my Mont Blanc 149 and Sailor.

Definitely Santini pens - imho they do not get enough love! The Santini Libra Cappuccino is one of my favorite pens. They make their nibs in-House and offer a bunch of special grinds at a great value!

Oh dear Samuel, you had to ask for us to list our favourite Italian fountain pens. Firstly, I know I'm writing this 10 months after you posted the video and my purchase of Visconti Rembrandt was over 3 years ago now at this point. Sooo, what do I think of the Visconti Rembrandt that I have? Sadly, it's the worst fountain pen I've ever owned. It looks lovely. However, the fine nib is as scratchy as hell. I can barely write with it. As for my favourite Italian fountain pen, and actually, it's my all-time favourite fountain pen, is my custom made Montegrappa. It is beautiful to look at and absolutely gorgeous to write with. And the love starts from the moment you do your unboxing. Oh and the most beautiful touch was the letter from the boss with my name handwritten on the envelope. At first, I thought they had printed it but then when I took a good look, I noticed the delightful human touch. I've never seen my name so beautifully written before. I have neat writing and I'm into calligraphy but it took an absolute master to write my name so elegantly. Yes, much love to Montegrappa.

Mr. Naldi, your videos are top notch , major bling. Love the 1930 extra. I have a ducale grande emperador in tortoise, a Delta dolcevita oversize. Had a Visconti mazzi apache, would not write at all replaced the feed with another from a $20 India pen which corrected the issue. Montegrappa all day everyday 24-7 as well as my dolcevita. Visconti? I wouldn't accept one if you gave it me for free! It's ALL about the writing experience period.

Hi Samuel, I love my Italian pens, I have a few Visconti pens: Copernicus in blue stacked celluloid from 1996 and a Homo Sapiens Lava Bronze, older model with a 23KPd nib I Also have a few Omas pens: Bologna: Acqua Di Bologna, a Arte Italiana Milord in Rosewood and the *new* Omas Ogiva 222 More recently I have bought a Leonardo Momento Zero Grande: Art Deco from 2021 Next pens will be from Scribo and Aurora

My personal favourite is the Leonardo Mosaico Hawaii which I use to write about Roman theatres. From what I've read, the Nino Marino Delta 39+1, Santini and Ancora pens get wonderful reviews.

I recently purchased a Gioia Partenope Avorio, my first (and so far, my only) Italian fountain pen. I highly recommend the Gioia brand, based in Naples. The writing experience is excellent, and the beauty of the materials and finish is remarkable. I'm very happy with the purchase.

I love Italian pens - they tend to be very wet. Aurora optima looks sleek with a simple design. I’m also interested in Scribo now.

Thank you for the review. I do have a pen in each of the categories except OMAS. Glad to know they are back in business. I am happy with a Pienieder, the Arco Blue Bee. So far I have liked the flex nib and the magnetic locking system. However, it does feel a little less than highest quality, at least as compared to Scribo and Montegrappa. I also find my Visconti Homo Sapiens to be a marvelous pen. I purchased two different Aurora models, each of which turned out to be a little smaller than I generally use. Quality is likely there; I just want a little different feel. Of all my pens, my favorite writer is the Scribo Feel!

I HAVE A FEW VISCONTI LAVA PENS ONE VERY UNIQUE WHERE THE RINGS ARE MADE OF STERLING SILVER AND I THINK OUR GREAT MICHELANGELO WOULD APPROVE OF THE LAVA PEN.

It is a shame that Santini is never mentioned in such videos. They make their own nibs, unique designs as well as great nibs. I have several pens from every brand mentioned here with steel and gold nibs and I would take my Santinis over every single of them, especially their flex fine nibs. Online selling is almost exclusively done on their own website, which is why they don’t get any of the hype.

Hi Samuel and thanks so dearly for this. My experience with Visconti is that I've purchased four and if I could I would return all of them. They write fine it's just impossible to fill. I have watched videos and tried every which way. Could be user error of course:). They look good, their functionality is terrible. If you have any suggestions I would appreciate it! Would add Leonardo's to your list. Their flex nibs are wonderful. I adore Scribo as well and believe they are wonderful. The Montegrappa pen I had customized writes just ok, however the Hemingway Adventurer fountain pen writes incredibly well.

Thank you for sharing your feedback Esther. Some Power Filler of Visconti did had trouble… but they also need to be used in a very specific way. Bit if it’s an older generation Homo Sapiens with that filler i suggest to check it in at Viscontis After Sales Service!

Missing the brand Leonardo Officina Italiana, which is very hot right now, created by a Delta co-founder. I also miss Armando Simoni Club when Omas make it under the five again. Because only at ASC can I get Omas‘ wonderful celluloid as the material for special fountain pens.

@3:00 - that is cellulose acetate, not cellulose nitrate. That isn't real celluloid and it's a shame they are allowed to market it as such.

If I dare say, and according to my experience, the best Italian pens made today are from Scribo and Santini. The Santini can only be purchased from their website and some very few places. I have three of them, including a full flexible nib, and every one of them is EXQUISITE.
