I just built a 7800x3d with g.skill ddr5-6000 30-40-40-96 (2 x 32gb). EXPO would cause no boot, but manually setting the speed and timings and also 1.35v on the memory and now it's solid at those settings. That said, as I was testing and bumping in the mhz 200 at a time I noticed about a 100 point improvement overall in the TimeSpy 3dmark score between about 5200mhz and 6000mhz. Not a lot, but it's something I guess.

And i have tested the 5200 speeds on my rig juet to troubleshoot stability. Its too slow on a 5200 for my needs. 5800 is acceptable, but i think the sweet spot is to aim for an A-Die 6000kit.

back when AM5 released and RAM was getting sorted the low latency CL30 stuff at 6000MT was super spendy. I can see why people factored in performance to dollar on the lower speed higher latency kits. But being that I waited till well after prices came down I find zero reason to not focus ONLY on the sweet spot 6000MT CL30 ram from Trident. It's regularly $85-105 new for the Flare X kit or $112-120 for the taller Trident versions. Just build all AM5 with the good stuff as it's what $10-20 more for it. Might as well give the Zen4 the best ability to achieve the best performance. If it was 50% more in cost then sure, consider a cheaper kit. But 10% more why bother with anything else.

Yes if your budget won't let you get a 7800X3D paired with at least a 7900XT or 4070ti, then you should drop down in CPU to afford a better GPU. But if you are building with a 7800X3D and saving money on the Ram helps you go to say a 7900XTX then I'd do that (:

The faster ram is only good for iGPU.. my third pc was i7 2600K, this cpu has HD 3000 iGPU. This was an office grade pc with the slowest RAM you can get. So i bought 2133MHz 32GB for 90€, realising that the motherboard only support up to 1866MHz so the RAM was set to highest that mobo can support. But The actuall FPS boost in-game was huge, jumping from 15-25fps to 27-40fps, almost double, just only with faster ram.. the new 890m radeon iGPU will require the most fastest DDR5 ram for the best experience. But it kinda sucks because that almost 100mb of 3d cache is really helping a lot. If they make an APU with 890m and 100 3D cache, im selling my two main pc's and i go straight withou any dedicated gpus...

Speed does not matter a lot but timings do make a bit difference. In some games that to not fit in the L3 benefit a lot from lower latency dram and tweaked subtimings. Faster infinity fabric clocks also help to improve the gaming performance. With new biosses 2167MHz works more easy. Undervolting the soc helps for stability (start with - 1.100-1.150v.

Fellas, be careful listening to KZbinrs. Yes, buying cheaper CPU and more expensive GPU gives you more FPS, but you don't change a CPU every 3-4 years, you change the GPU. Also, your GPU doesn't take half a day to change and research, unlike the CPU.

If you are buying the current best 2024 Gaming CPU then why even bother saving $10. Just get the current best of 6000MT CL30. Trident or Flare X have the better timings vs some of the Corsair or TeamGroup kits. All but 3 of my systems have CL30 6000MT as the other three were either dirt cheap around $50 for 32gb or a new XMP 6400MT CL32 kit for $80.

If you get a 7700X instead, make sure to get ddr5 6000 CL30 or ddr5 6400 CL32. And preferably tune the timings manually. You can get upwards of 10% extra framerate by just having good latency RAM. 5200 CL40 is extremely slow.

The thing is that RAM faster than 6000MT/s could actually be bad for chiplet design CPUs. Since the infinity fabric and the memory speed matching would be faster than having way faster memory. 6000 lets both the InfFabric and Memory even out at 3000. Anything faster and the InfFabric may not have enough to keep up, literally. It will start to go down! So, 6000 is 100% the fastest.

I was wondering if bigger ram sticks could give an issue as well? I was considering 96GB that could be needed in some of my cases but not sure if compatibility-wise with the 7800x3D would be good, if some problems could appear with any other CPU or motherboards, as now I could take "slower" ram but more of it while not having much downside regarding ram speed for the 7800x3D. TL;DR : Should I consider 96GB instead of 64GB for the 7800x3D w/ Asus 650E-I (Mini ITX) board, as ram speed shouldn't matter in this case and just give me more ram without visible downsides?

Even with 7800X3D you should only buy DDR5 m-die memory. It’s a trivial cost increase and is better in literally every category. The easiest no nonsense kit is the Trident NEO DDR5 6000 CL30 from G.Skill. Buy 5200 ram means you’ll likely see decreases in potential performance as you upgrade through the lifecycle.

Spec CPU: 5950X RAM: 64Gg 16CL 3800 4x16Gb single rank GPU: 7900xt "Sapphire nitro-x edition" The CPU really does need the 2 ranks per channel to get the most out of it, I already had 2x16Gb single rank, and it was much cheaper to get a 2nd 2x16 than it was to buy a duel rank kit at the time I'll install MW2 and bench that see what score it gives me, but from memory its over 220-230 FPS at 3440x1440, so 1080 should be a bit higher

AMD have had issues with memory training on the AM5 platform, mostly resolved now with the AGESA 1.0.0.7b/c microcode - which can be found in the latest BIOS. With the latest BIOS, you should be able to run 6000MHz and maintain those fast boot-times by enabling memory context restore. This will do a long initial memory training session, then save that data for subsequent reboots. It will need to do the long training session for the first boot whenever the PC is disconnected from power. Generally you don't want to touch the BIOS if you can avoid it once you've got a system installed, and if you're happy with 5200 then you could leave it as such - personally it'd bother me running my RAM so slow that I'd do the update but I tend to reinstall my Windows semi-regularly anyways.
