I'm taking economics, geography, and further maths. I'm just stressing about weather i have taken the right subjects as i don't know what i want to do at uni.

That's a great combination as you have both science and essay subjects! You are suitable for a really good range of degree options. I wouldn't worry too much about choosing what you want to study right now. The only thing you might want to think about is that you won't be able to apply for/be disadvantaged for the majority of STEM courses apart from maybe Earth Sciences or Geology etc. So you would be choosing from social science/humanities subjects :)

im not sure whether to take maths - ik its super helpful for loads of things but i just dont know if id enjoy it or do well in it. ive always found maths easy and ill almost definitely get a 9 at gcse (this year) but im not sure if the a level type maths will be for me or not. my 2 definites are biology and psychology, but my preferred third would be french, which i think id enjoy and find easy enough. french is a good one too, its a facilitating subject, but like youve said maths can be good for so many things so im really unsure. one thing i will say is that i dont want to go into a mathsy career, so it might not be as helpful for me as for others, but ik its useful for loads of things even if they dont seem mathsy. ik a lot of people regret taking maths and that scares me too. im starting year 12 on 4 subjects so ill get the chabce to try it out, but also that wont give me a full understandning of how the whole course will be so its hard to make my decisions! also, i have considered the chance of taking 4 a levels but i think id rather do 3 and an epq so thats tricky too

i would recommend taking those four to start with, and drop either French or maths depending on which you enjoy least. it's important to take subjects that you enjoy, but both French and maths are incredibly harder at a level than gcse from what I've seen. maths would go better but just taken four and drop whichever you enjoy the least

Hi!!! Thank you for the video. I would also like some advice My options so far are Maths, Computer science, physics and either economics or business. I'm interested in a lot of career paths, but most of them fall under the computer science umbrella. (programming, cyber security, game development, data sciences, software engineering etc ) So I am looking for something that would add to my computer skills. As far as physics is concerned I have not studied physics before, so it will take some convincing and will probably be alot more hard work but it also sounds like an important facilitating subject, and it sounds risky to leave it out. It also opens the option for engineering which if i can, i would love to do. I've also come across career paths that make use of computer science and econ/business, and either sounds pretty decent. Hi! Basically, for your potential career paths of CS or other STEM paths you would benefit most from taking further mathematics. Ideal: maths, further maths, CS, physics You seem pretty set on this STEM pathway in which case I would say there's not much point taking econ/business at all! Of your listed degrees, only Data Science would really suit having economics as an A Level. For everything else, it wouldn't massively make you more competitive. You also do not need to study econ/business prior to your degree to be able to study econ modules! Maths/physics on the other hand you do need a starting point. Hope that helps! Might not be relevant to you anymore but I would not recommend taking physics just for the sake of it. If you love physics, go for it. But physics is not a subject you can just get by in, you have to have an innate fascination for it to do well.

I'd say physics, maths, and economics would be the ideal combination in your case. Physics and maths together leave a good number of engineering pathways open for you. At the same time, economics is a bit more versatile than business so works well for business related degrees. This also works well for international relations as there is a lot of overlap with topics inside economics and there is a good amount of essay writing to support you. In terms of IT related paths, maths is really the only essential subject. And don't worry, I don't think chemistry would help you particularly haha. Hope that helps :)

Honestly either would be absolutely fine from an application perspective. They both build similar skills and are pretty much equal in difficulty. The best thing to do would be to decide what degree you want to apply for. Broadly speaking, sociology has more overlapping areas of study that you could call upon for a variety of social science degree applications. Studying law gives you a slight advantage if you go on to a law degree, but even this isn't significant. So you may find sociology more useful. Any idea what degree you will choose?

If you're planning on pursuing computer science for your degree then further mathematics is more useful than physics. Your combination sounds good and if you aren't keen on physics then I wouldn't take it :) Maybe you could consider learning a programming language to support your A Levels instead.

Hi, for your daughter's areas of interest, I'd advise Computer Science, Maths, and English Lit. I think you will find that A Level doesn't naturally have as many opportunities to work with extended essays compared to IB. So having the balance of CS that is ideal for degrees in industrial design/design alongside english literature should be a competitive and hopefully enjoyable balance.

I’m taking Arabic second language, geography and ICT yet have a great passion for history and comparative religion. I chose ICT as I thought it could be applied into any field since majority of careers require knowledge on using electronics effectively (as if knowledge). It's definitely better to take further maths rather than history. Any engineering degree highly favours further maths at this point, particularly electrical engineering! Maybe you could explore history through an EPQ or as extra reading if you really have a passion for it? But as a fourth subject it doesn't benefit your application too much. If further maths isn't available then you could consider chemistry or electronics?

Of these subjects, I would personally drop either biology or chemistry. Unless you are applying for medicine, pure chemistry, or pure biology, you should be okay for every other subject. If you are not sure what you want to study, it makes the most sense to take a mixture of science and social science so that you are still able to apply to law, sociology, type degrees etc. Hope that helps!

Hi! I'm glad this was helpful. If you are not sure what you want to do just yet then I think it would be wise to swap a subject for biology. This means you still have access to a range of science degrees such as biology, biological sciences, health sciences etc. If you stick with your current combination then you are somewhat limited to applying only for humanities or social science degrees. Because you would still have two essay subjects, it shouldn't negatively impact any application you make for humanities/social science degrees at all. Biology is a bit more useful than computer science in your case as it is more versatile. Computer science is always most useful in combination with maths and further maths. Good luck!

Does your school offer FM? If they do, then you will be at a disadvantage. Have you considered taking just the AS FM? This would still show that you have developed skills beyond single maths. Alternatively, you could show this by taking advanced courses through EdX/Coursera and showcasing skills in your PS. If your school doesn't offer FM, then this should be fine but I would still develop super-curricular maths skills. It isn't impossible to get into a CS degree without FM but it will make your life a lot harder, to be totally honest. The reason they want to see FM is due to how difficult maths becomes at university. If you are able to prove that you can handle this in some other aspect of your application i.e. Maths olympiads, super-curriculars then you can get away with single maths. Also bear in mind, this is true for the most competitive universities. There are a huge number of universities offering CS and they will have varying levels of competitiveness so don't worry too much even if you choose not to take FM!

It really depends on what you are most confident in. If you are comfortable with maths then I would definitely keep it as it is the most useful A Level subject that you can study. Between economics or business, it sounds like business would suit you slightly better. If you are planning to maybe take up an apprenticeship then there are more useable concepts that you will study in business compared to economics at this stage. For example, you would cover an introduction into different marketing methods etc. I don't think it's worth taking business and economics as the two have a little too much overlap for your case. Bear in mind you could probably drop a subject later on if you find sitting exams in all three a bit too much! There are university degrees that ask for overall UCAS points as opposed to giving you a 3 subject offer. And of course, for an apprenticeship they won't require 3 full A Level subjects as you learn as you apprentice. I hope that helps!

That sounds like a great combination.! Unless you want to go into pure physics in the future, I see no reason to switch. CS and physics are comparable in difficulty and usefulness. If anything, CS will come in more handy for a variety of apprenticeships.

That sounds like a great combination. Bear in mind, media studies will most likely involve some sort of coursework. This means you can portion out your time to give yourself less work to do in terms of revision etc. during summer exam season. As long as you are well prepared and organised, I think you should be absolutely fine! Don't let yourself get discouraged. Good luck :)

I know that biology might make my application more competitive and allow me to apply for more unis as some ask for 2 sciences (like ucl or cambridge) although, just taking psychology is fine for many unis as well. However, classical civilisations is an essay subject which is also helpful for psychology and i know i would enjoy it and do well in it as i find it really interesting. What would you recommend for psychology? i really don't know right now.

hey, this video was pretty helpful, I was thinking of taking Business and English language Alevel because that is what is available for me.. but I cant decide on a third subject I love economics and all but i also wanted to try something new such as sociology (which I have no idea about) , could you recommend what the better combination is. Im confused whether both business and econ would even be accepted by unis, someone said it could clash?? also is it possible that the subjects you chose could lead you to multiple paths like for instance if i end up studying a major in uni and i wish to change it up is that possible based on the range of alevels you took?? Glad you found this useful! Business and econ have enough overlap that I wouldn't recommend choosing both. There wouldn't be a huge problem on the university side i.e they wouldn't disregard your application, but it will give you a lot less range when it comes to writing the PS and you will be slightly less competitive compared to someone who has maths/science/other subject. Sociology, economics, english sounds like a great combo though! If you want to change your degree after you enter university, you essentially have to appeal to the relevant department. They will then check your A Levels or ask you to sit additional exams (this is all dependent on the university) to make sure you would be on equal footing with others on the course. So you can't for instance, change into medicine if you don't have bio/chem a levels but you might be able to switch from politics to business. So your A Level choices now will most likely impact whether or not you can swap into a different degree. Let me know if there's anything that doesn't make sense!

have you chosen A Level Film and A Level Media? if that's the case then it would be good to balance out with another distinct subject that offers different skills. Something like business studies or even psychology would be great! I think you'll find both these subjects have a really good application for film and media. They also both have a relatively low workload which is useful because both film and media are likely to involve coursework, depending on exam board :)

I'm terribly confused. I absolutely detest math and I simply do not want to do anything with it unless I absolutely must. My interests lie in psychology, english, history, biology. Information enduced theoritical subjects that don't require math all that much. However I'm not sure if these subjects will pay well in life and i don't know what pairings I should take in my A'levels. Are there any pairings for psychology? All I want from my career is stability ao should I take business studies after all?

@@roanne5525 I ended up taking bio, chemistry, physics and math😭🤚 My teachers including my peers adviced me to finish A'levels with the core subjects so that I'll have a more wider range of options and then can pursue psychology in university later on. I'll tell you this, I'm absolutely exhausted. It's difficult and considering my dislike towards maths in general, I have to give double-triple the hardwork than what is usual. I also aim to study abroad in uni so studying for SATs and scholarship is just the last cherry on top for this hell ride. Inshallah, there is fruit for all this hard work at the end of the day 😭

Hi! Could you please give me advice on something? I have to choose subjects for AS, and I've decided on taking Bio and Physics; but I don't know what to choose for the 3rd subject. I thought of taking chem, but many of my seniors told me it was really difficult, and to be honest Chem makes me feel kind of sick. Now that we have lab, I feel like I will be overwhelmed with juggling 3 science subjects; but they also told me it was the best option, regardless of how exhausting it was. I took a trial Business Studies class yesterday, and although it wasn't difficult (so far), the teacher kept mentioning that I take accounting (but my seniors told me that there's no such thing and that he only wants me to take accounting because he teaches that too, according to them, Business Studies is an easy A - but they did say that it'd be an awkward combination if I pick Business Studies). After I told them that I'd like to study law (peferably in Cambridge university), some of them told me to take Law + Business + English, but I heard it's not recommended to take law because universities don't want that; besides, that's a completely different route from what I've done in O levels so it does feel risky. Although, currently, I'm saying that I want to pursue a career in law; I don't know what could happen in the future. So if I take specific subjects (like law), it could backfire on me. About Math, English and History - I'm not from the UK, so here, there aren't many good teachers for teaching A level history. Most of my seniors said that English is pretty much unnecessary, and I'm not a math person either. I'm in a such a dilemma, I have no idea what to do.. Chemistry or Business? Or should I just remove Physics? Or something else? Feel kind of hopeless :(

Hi! If Law is your intended degree, it would make sense to choose one of English literature or history as your third choice. I agree that Law is not a versatile subject to choose for A Level, I would recommend you prepare for law through reading articles and books as opposed to sitting for the qualification. There's not much point taking chemistry, biology, and physics as a combination. Without maths, it is only really a strong application for medicine or biochemistry. It also doesn't work well for law. If you are choosing between accounting and business studies, I would choose the latter as there is more extended writing which is better for a humanities degree. However, business is not strictly speaking a pure essay subject so I wouldn't choose this over english lit/history. Biology, physics, and history/english literature is a good combination for law! The only issue with this choice is that you are somewhat limited in applying for other degrees if you change your mind. Due to the lack of maths, you would be a little less competitive for the majority of STEM degrees. For social sciences, the combination would work for maybe politics but again philosophy or economics favours students who study maths. So make sure you are really set on your degree first before you make your final decision! I hope this helps and feel free to ask about anything that is unclear!

Hi, it's true you don't need Art A Level necessarily to apply for design-related degrees. One of my students studied maths, business, physics and got a place at UAL by submitting a portfolio. The only issue is building that portfolio can be as time-consuming as sitting the A Level and you would have to use your own time to do it. If you're set on a design/art degree, I do think choosing art A Level would be the right move. I think you'll find it's much less of a workload as you only have 2 other subjects unlike at GCSE. You also learn a lot of skills that will help you on the degree itself that you don't cover at GCSE. Criminology is a really niche subject to study at such an early stage and there won't be a huge amount of resources to help you if you do struggle. I would suggest, if you have time, get a head start on the reading/background for art this summer meaning less chance you'll overwork yourself during the school year! I hope that helps!

Both combinations sound ideal for law - so which you choose is personal preference! It would be a good idea to look into which area of law you might want to specialise in to help you decide. It could help you in writing the ps if you do it this way. You could also choose based on which you are likely to get a higher grade in. As both combos are good, the grade profile will matter more for universities :) Hope that helps!

Hi thank you for this video; I came across it as I am so confused on what a-levels to pick. I understand this video was uploaded quite a while ago but hopefully you see this as I would appreciate some advice. Im currently in year 11 and I am having to submit applications for the sixth forms I am trying to enter, however choosing a-levels is difficult when you have no clue of what kind of career path you want to pursue. I am considering chemistry, maths and biology as my first three options as they will keep options open for stem based degrees/ science/ medicine, but I am not sure on what to pick for my fourth a-level: only one of the sixth forms I am applying to offers Italian (which I am fluent in) but the rest dont so I have no idea on what to pick. Glad this helped you! I'd recommend you choose further maths as your 4th. It's by far the most valuable A Level. The other way you could go for is an essay based subject to balance your profile but it doesn't sound like you want to apply humanities at all. High-earning careers and degrees are not as related as you think. It's much better to go to a highly ranked uni for a less competitive degree even if the degree doesn't seem related. You can still easily end up in finance etc. The majority of people in these roles didn't even study econ/finance examples ideal for your subject combination: chem eng or biochem at Imperial land economy at cambridge material science at oxford Italian isn't really going to help you applications-wise as it sounds like it may be a native language for you? You can take this qualification as a private candidate if you want to - don't bother taking classes in it you can just sign up to a private centre to sit the exam. It would still be impressive as a 5th A Level as it still shows good time management/high workload. Hope that makes sense - let me know what you end up choosing!

Both are really interesting combinations. I like the sound of your first combination if you want to keep your future options open. The second combination is so humanities heavy that you would be slightly more restricted. You could keep economics and history as definite choices, then choose one more out of english, lit, sociology, or psychology. With that you could potentially go into marketing, law, international relations, media studies, business, english literature, history etc. So lots of great options!

Before choosing both art and media, I would advise you think about how you like to be assessed. Most boards expect coursework as a pretty large component of assessment. Coursework can be really time-consuming depending on how much support your school offers. If you still prefer coursework over sit-down exams then you should be totally fine taking your current subject combination. You would be absolutely fine with just eng lang, economics, and art or eng lang, economics, and media. So before you make a final decision, maybe you could take a couple of weeks of classes in all four and then drop down to 3 depending on what you enjoy most/seems most manageable! My main focus is applying for med school, however I have taken into account that the probability of me being accepted isn't 100% and wouldn't mind a back up option in a finance sector (nevertheless I am 100% determined that i want to go to medical school and the finance/business sector would have to be a last resort). With this in mind I was thinking of taking Maths, Bio and Chem and also a fourth subject however I am torn between economics and further maths- I think further maths would be beneficial in the process of being selected to medical school and I think economics would be useful for my back up plan and also if I decide to run a business etc in the future, which I can foresee maybe happening ; I would really appreciate it if you could advise me on what could be the better choice. I would definitely go for further mathematics over economics. As someone who studied economics at university/sent many students off to study economics degrees, you do not need economics A Level to study the course. You also do not need it for your application. Further mathematics, on the other hand, is extremely useful for certain modules such as econometrics. I would advise you keep up with current affairs and try to read as many books as you can to do with economics/business/finance. You can include this knowledge in your personal statement to show your interest! Hope that helps :)

I'd say swap the history for English language as it teaches you valuable skills such as the ability to construct a strong argument, simplify large texts quickly and it is looked upon well by many universities. Hope this helps 👍

Econ, politics, and history sound great! Taking history could actually benefit a law application more as you can draw upon history and law in your personal statement to show your interest in the subject. Law doesn't really have any particularly preferred subjects. English lang/history are both considered essay subjects so you should be absolutely fine with your current combination. Good luck!

Is it the "English as a Second Language" exam or just "English Language"? If it's the second, then sounds like a great combination! If it's the first one, then I strongly advise you take economics or business instead. If you are set on a specific degree then you can choose the most suitable subjects based on that! It is useful to have a combination to increase the strength of your application -- but for an art degree (fine art?) then something like art, graphic design/art history, english lit/history would be a great combination. I've been enjoying all subjects in my igcse and I still have three exams to go , in my country i must take 8 o levels and travelling aboard requires 3 at least, I've decided biology chemistry and psychology will be fine, my grades in both biology and chemistry were A* in beginning but some topics weren't clear and i started getting all B , and I've got better in physics and getting A* or A even i used to hate it now i truly enjoy it but I also always get B in math even I enjoy it and like it ( i used to hate it)and my teacher said i must take math beside physics so I feel lost and don't know what to choose For now all I'm sure about is psychology, so could you recommend other two A level subjects beside psychology? First, board doesn't matter at all, so just choose whichever you prefer the exams for. Your teacher is right that you should take maths if you want to apply for STEM at university. There are so many courses that require maths. Do you know what you would like to study? If you are not at all interested in social sciences or humanities at university, then it makes sense to choose two sciences (biology, chemistry, physics, maths) to go along with psychology. Hi, typically Psychology degrees do prefer you have at least 2 sciences (maths/sciences/psychology) but this is not absolutely essential. You can definitely get around this by bulking up your personal statement with lots of readings/lectures/skills you have outside of A Level that would help you on a psychology degree. For law this looks like a great combination! Personally I would advise that if you are not massively against taking another science, just swap out english lit or econ. It will make no difference to a law application and would really help for psychology.

Data science degrees/careers require a really good understanding of statistics. You still can do medicine without Biology. Chemistry and another Science or Maths is usually the only requirement. Also, Further Maths is almost never required for Comp Sci, only Maths. Basically, both of them are a good choice!

Hi, with maths, physics, chem, you can't apply for straight medicine. However, by choosing chem you could still apply for pharmacology, neuroscience, or other medicine-related degrees. If you take this path then not only is it a useful STEM degree, but it leaves you the option to go onto the graduate fast-track medicine degree. This basically means you end up a doctor + with a BSc in another subject in 7 years. A traditional medicine degree takes 6 years anyway. If your school doesn't offer further maths then it won't negatively affect your CompSci application too much as universities recognise this. If not the case, then I would strongly advise taking FM as well. It might be tough but you will probably find the degree even more of a struggle without this background knowledge. Even if you don't go for CS, having FM makes you more competitive for engineering programs as well which is your final option. I'm sure it's not ideal advice but I would choose either: chem, maths, physics or maths, FM, compsci, physics

If you're worried about the essay writing in psychology I would personally just stick to maths, chem, and bio. As a med application you will have so many other parts (interviews, UCAT, work experience etc.) that you don't want to worry about A Levels as well. Psychology really isn't super useful at all. For finance, all three of those unis (particularly LSE) has a strong preference for further maths students. If you take maths+further maths, then the English is an advantage if anything. It sets you apart from other typical combinations and shows that you have a strong writing background as well. For engineering, you basically need further maths anyway, even if they don't explicitly state it in admissions requirements. You would really struggle without it on the actual course. For finance courses, it doesn't help that much to have an economics A Level - it's there more to show admissions an essay subject. Maths, further, english, physics sounds an excellent choice for either finance/engineering. Just make sure you do a lot of wider reading and keep up with your current affairs knowledge. your combination sounds fine for IR or political science! A fourth subject will, of course, make you more competitive but it's not necessary. It depends on what else you have going on outside of exams. It's annoying but A Levels alone won't make you stand out for courses at unis that get massive numbers of applications.

It does depend on which area of law you find interesting and so want to discuss in the PS. Personally, I would choose For 4 subjects: 1) maths, a humanity, a language, a social science For 3 subjects: 1) a science, a humanity, a language Let me know what you end up choosing!

hi, i have watched your video a while ago but have come back as I’m still in the same dilemma. Apologies for how long this will be, but I hope to get some advice from you. I have the idea of going into medicine so I have chosen maths, chemistry, biology and edexcel religious studies, but I’m having second thoughts about rs. I would like an essay subject for variety because as indecisive as I am, I’m not 100% sure that medicine is for me or what I want to do with my life (i just know I want to be rich😂). I feel like psychology would make my choices too science based, and even though gcse history was one of my favourite subjects, i told myself not to go there for a levels😂. I’d like to study economics but it’s full at my school and as i have seen you mention in some comments, it’s not a necessity to go into the business sector. Gov and politics is also an option I have only recently looked at but I’m not sure. I really have a seront sense of regret so I just want to make the right decision for my life. Any advice would truly be appreciated Edit: as I am just over 3 weeks into my studies (yr12) im also wondering if it’s too late to switch

Hi, first of all 3 weeks in is definitely not too late to switch! For medicine, maths, chem, bio, RS is great. 1) If medicine turns out not to be for you, you could always swap once you have started your degree at university. For this option, there is no reason to change your subject combination. 2) If you change your mind before you apply, then it's difficult to advise you without knowing what your backup would be. Any idea what your second choice degree is? As a note, if you are interested in a high-earning career, something like data science or CS could work well for you. If this is the case, then I would swap out RS for FM!

Unfortunately my teacher told me it’s too late to switch to FM, so I’m not sure what to do anymore. Also do you think that having at least one essay based subject could should variety/ other skills rather than all stem subjects. Would that be seen as disadvantageous?

@@examrizz. im not sure yet as i have different ideas : * Psychology maybe something like forensic psychologist or like a psychiatrist * something in law > a Lawyer - graphic designer ( but i hated Art in gcse ) - marketing sounds nice but i doubt if i will actually study it - i love medical careers im just scared of taking A level science 😭

@@user-en9lu8xj8q Ah in that case, you would be best off taking Maths or a Science! You'll need it when applying for psychology or health related degree :) I'd personally say Biology is the least scary of the sciences as memorising everything really well can get you to an A grade! The others are a bit more variable with results I find. For careers in law and marketing, you don't need any specific degree so I agree with you that choosing something else as your main degree would be better :)) I hope that helps! same with graphic design - you don't need a full degree in it to pursue a career in the industry. You can learn the skills alongside your bachelors.

For me math in GCSE i did foundation and got a 5 but im not sure if A level math would be as GCSE And biology gosh i really strugled with it but got a 5 on one of my mocks ( i did combined - foundation ) I would love to take a science based subject at it will open doors for me as you said but the thing as im not sure if i am smart enough to take it for a level like what if i failed it? This is scary 😭😭 But anyway thanks again for ur reply i will definitely think of my third option carefully this summer holiday and decide weather i should take bio or math

Hey, thanks for such an informative and thoughtful video. I for myself am choosing bio chemistry physics as my three main subjects and I am a bit confused which subject should I go for, I am thinking of opting for either maths psychology sociology or GPR well its quite a wide range but one thing is for sure I want to stay as far away from maths and still go for a major in biological related science, may you please guide me through this? I am thinking of a future career in nuero-science but my friend is recommending me to take socio as he thinks I will be able to do better at socio rather than psycho, and uh I'm from Pakistan(international student ofc)

You definitely don't need maths for biological science, biochemistry, biomedical sciences etc. so if you are really against it, you should be fine. As you are pretty set on pursuing a STEM degree, I would opt for psychology as my 4th subject. It has the most relevance for the degrees you are interested in. There's not a huge amount of value in taking sociology as there is very little relevance for your area of interest. If you are going for CIE exam boards, I think you will find psychology and sociology actually have pretty similar assessment styles in terms of looking for long-form answers. I would advise you take a look at some past papers before making a final decision! Hope that helps :)

No inherent problem with that combination. You will probably have to do a lot more wider reading for econ/pol/phil that other students will get to do as part of their A Levels. I'd usually advise taking an essay subject as PPE is very essay based. Any reason for not choosing a humanity subject?

taking 5 is impressive but a lot of work! if you don’t have plans to apply for medicine, I’d recommend economics over chemistry as there is less for you to revise and is a great facilitating subject :)

the other subjects are a great combo but if you’re not applying for a humanity, have you considered dropping english and taking the others? econ can count as an essay subject as well but isn’t quite so heavy workwise

@@examrizz. thank you so much for your reply, yes i have been leaning more towards taking econ as i can see that it has less of a workload and i think ill have a better chance of surviving than if i take chemistry haha, i don't really want to apply for medicine but im not sure. in terms of dropping a subject, yes i would probably drop either english or further maths depending on the workload or econ after y12 im not sure but i really love english and that was a subject i knew i always wanted to do and also im extremely good at it and its my passion so therefore taking it at the start

You picked 2 essay writing-based facillitating subjects so that is very good. I think you will be set if you get good grades in the Geography and Eng lit especially if you want to go into something like Law (Research Comm is not that useful).@@Addictedto7men

Hi, That looks like a good combination. With your range of subjects, you could apply for a good range of social science or humanities degrees such as human geography, business, marketing, IR, etc. at most universities. The skills learned in research communication alongside extended essay writing in English lit will help inform universities of your ability to deal with larger writing/research projects - they really like this so make sure you discuss what you did in your PS! Definitely take some more confidence in your subject choice, just make sure you keep up with super-curricular reading and make your degree choice well :)

Hi, I'm glad you found this useful. Based on the information you have provided, I would advise that you choose maths, chemistry, and business. On the STEM side, after removing all engineering degree options, you are left with chemistry, biochemistry, earth sciences, geology, material science etc. For all these degrees, they generally only require/prefer chemistry, maths and one other subject. In fact, some prefer business over another science as the third subject. CS is more useful when taken in combination with FM or physics. Taking business + maths rather than CS + maths also means you are competitive for a broad range of degrees in the social science field. Hope that all makes sense!

Hi, my best friend was also wondering what a levels to take. He is currently taking 6! He is thinking of majoring in biochemical engineering or financial cooperate law. He is taking Maths, English Literature, Chemistry, Biology, Psychology and Second Language Spanish. He is definitely not dropping Maths, English or Chemistry but wants to drop one of the other 3. Which one should he drop keeping in mind his favourite subject is pyschology and Second Language Spanish is easy to him as he speaks it quite fluently.

Wow, he's taking a lot of A Levels! If it's a full Spanish A Level then that fulfils the "essay writing skill" demonstration. I would advise: maths, bio, chem, Spanish, psychology I don't really see the value in English lit if he already has Spanish, as well as psychology which also involves extended essay writing. Law doesn't have any required subjects whereas biochemical engineering needs maths + science. Hope that helps :)
