You are spot on with the backlight. I wish like you, that you could have the backlight on until you hit the light button again when done on the G-SHOCK. I still love my GPR-B1000 Ragneman but there are two things I wish it had. The better backlight that can be purposefully left on and haptic feedback so you can get a silent alarm. My Rangeman only comes off when I’m showering, and when I need to get my hands into tights spots when fixing coffee machines that keep Central Florida Caffeinated. Still love your channel. A good effort put into the ABC watch world. This answer most people's questions about what the watch they're looking to buy can and cannot do and what they can expect out of it.
@WatchUP69MrRangeman3 жыл бұрын
Exactly... just wanted to show all the features they offer... am surprised the GWN-Q1000 Gulfmaster doesn't have MAX/MIN, but does REC all the ABCD's temps along with time/date stamps... being honest, the Gulfmaster is better than the GWG-1000, and the compass working facing towards you is very useful, and that's why I like the GPR-B1000 so much, who cares it doesn't have 100th seconds on the stopwatch and an hourly SIG, the ABC side is solid, plus it has GPS to correct the Altimeter... but with regards to overall best for value, then the GW-9400 and GG-B100 all the way :)) Cheers for your feedback my good friend, and knowing you like my effort, means it's really good, so appreciate that very much from you :))

@@WatchUP69MrRangeman the horizontally calibrated compass is a welcome addition and people ignore this fact. Even the GWG-2000 (the 1000 in a different suit) lacks this but still people love that watch for looks alone. @WatchUP69MrRangeman3 жыл бұрын
@@traviswalker8933 The looks seem to be the most popular choice for the GWG series, and this is proven with the new GWG2k, it's about the looks/style. When I use my GPR-B1000 the GPS is started upon go, then I can create quicker point memo's and have the altimeter working correctly :) I enjoy the Garmin's, but don't use them for fitness of any kind, these are mainly for the general functions with the GPS side, but for someone looking for that all rounder and don't mind smart, then they're good. But, smart does mean it can do some odd things, and my Fenix 6Pro has rebooted about 10 times now while out on a hike, while the GPR doesn't do this anxiety feature LML :-P thus why I choose the GPR, and if the GPS failed, it's still a solid ABC watch :) Analog is the most useful in low lighting, also you can read and judge time faster over analog, but when it comes to timers and the stopwatch, digital wins hands off :-P

@lanthanien3 жыл бұрын
I also have a suunto traverse alpha, fastest gps of any I’ve tried. That one will get gps lock indoors as well. It did not support maps though and is non solar. Now I use Avenza in unfamiliar territory, maps are free here from the forest service. Quality updated maps are important for knowing hazards and closure, like forest fire burn scars. The gshocks being waterproof/tough and always attached to my body is why I wear them, plus solar even better. Some basic math will give bearing and distance from coordinates. It’s a compliment to a gps based system. Also fun for routing on a topo map with the altimeter. The gbdh1000 can use gps altitude correction but it has to be done manually as a ‘position get’ first. It is slow, usually 45s. It’s like a pocket knife. Carve a roast, not really. But can pay off massively in a pinch.

VIDEO IDEA: Can you make a video explaining how to use just a G-Shock that has the compass sensor and a paper map how to navigate or find your location? I have searched the interwebs looking for this type of tutorial but one doesn't exist. All map and compass tutorials require a magnetic compass with a clear baseplate to be used with a map. Is it possible to do this with just a G-Shock and a map? Otherwise I am failing to understand the use of the compass unless you already know what bearing you want to maintain. GWG-1000 or GW-9400 (I prefer the Rangeman, because is lighter and has better outdoor functions than the Mudmaster) and my Fenix 6 Solar. I find that BARO sensor on Casio is better than the one on Garmin. I had a Garmin Instinct Solar 1st gen and the storm alert was mostly alerting me on sunny days and was silent when a storm was on the horizon. @CollinB_EDC3 жыл бұрын
@@WatchUP69MrRangeman what he means to say is that with a lot of G-Shocks if you mute the button tone it allows you to activate the backlight, and then press as many buttons as you can during the normal backlight duration without it cutting off the backlight on the first subsequent press of any button (invoking a “beep”) as it typically would. I just confirmed that it also works on my GPR-B1000 also. You still only get a couple seconds, but it doesn’t cut off after each button press. That, combined with the scrolling of the GPR makes it quite useful! Also, given the fact that the beeps are very quiet to begin with on the watch means you gain some great night functionality without losing much. Cheers 🍻
@WatchUP69MrRangeman3 жыл бұрын
@@CollinB_EDC Hey buddy... cheers for your input... I was more thinking that his G-Shock was fully functional with no backlight intermittence, just staying on till he stops pressing buttons, so was excited on that side. With the GPR, yes it does offer the best backlighting for those 3secs, but if you make a Time (GPS) Sync and wanted to know if it's switched on, the backlight button will turn off the sync and return back to Home Time. On some other G-Shocks like the GWF-D1000 Frogman, it works when scrolling through modes, but start adjusting the alarm for example, the backlight button adjusts backwards the flashing digit... and on the GG-B100 it fails completely. So it's still lacking behind TIMEX with their 200m Tough watches that offers continuous backlighting regardless. The GPR-B1000 does have the best of the G-Shocks as far as I'm aware when backlighting is with Mute... oddly this isn't mentioned in the manual. The great missleadence in the pressure readings... the numbers shown on Weather Apps aren't in the exact location you're in, so it's just a number, but it's their number, and where is their point of calibration zero??? So for me I calibrate my own number when the weather is stable and sunny, then I set it at 1000... for me this is a more how I would understand it more, anything over is better, and under is not as good, the further it's away from 1000, the I know how to calculate for the good and bad :) There is air pressure and barometric pressure, and it's all to do with some magic that earth uses, but the G-Shocks and Protrek's seem to work better over the Garmin's when working with their built in sensor... sometimes I feel the Garmin's get data from your device which is using a third party which is a huge difference sometimes... so for me, as I like to set mine at 1000, the CASIO's are best :) A followup video would be good, as explaining it fully would need a video of it's own, just need a reliable resource to split the pressure readings, and boy that can go deep LML :-P

Greta video, here is my take on Casio ABC. Until Casio can implement an auto switch between Baro/Altimeter in my opinion they are still behind Suunto in this department. If anyone looking to predict the weather accurately whilst on the move the Casio cannot keep a clean Baro graph due to altitude change and any alerts will be based a increase of altitude instead of a low pressure moving in. Suunto traverse and core compensate for this fluctuation y switching automatically between Baro or Altitude reading. Tow separate graphs are indeed essential for monitoring the correct data plot on a graph. I wish Casio can implement this to stop the guess work as it’s frustrating to see a nice accumulation of Baro reading just to be destroyed by a short drive to the shops 😂

The PRW-3500 is a level or ten above my PRG240 with the tech, but I wanted that duel layer LCD... I did have the PRW-2500, but the display was just a little busy, plus the MAX/MIN wasn't easy to read... I would like to see another attempt on that with the duel layer LCD :) The GW-9400 is one of those G-Shock's that you can't complain about, it really does pack some punch, and seeing how all these behave, it's amazing why CASIO aren't making one feature all the same, but we know why that is :-P

Yes but what do I do with my old 78's?
@WatchUP69MrRangeman3 жыл бұрын
A wonderful valve amp and good deck would compliment that the best... vinyl is the best, and I've heard some old 78's can make thousands... MP£ is just horrible with no quality at all... I play original CD's in my car using Alpine system throughout, and the level of clarity fools you just to how loud you're playing it... but still doesn't capture that vinyl rawness :))

I've had the ggb100 and out of the box it needs a ton of customization to wear practically. I keep the world time at (utc). the timer at 24 hours so i can think more throughout the day. lol. And the barometer and altimeter on "sec" mode. I only need it when I need it. You don't have to clear the differential everytime you go for a walk. You can just take readings at your leisure and update the actual altimeter as you go.

What model is that wrist Suunto compass? I've been tempted by the digital rangeman many times but being long sighted, I don't want to have to keep putting specs on to read a tiny compass. I can see my compass on my Instinct easily enough.
@WatchUP69MrRangeman3 жыл бұрын
My Suunto Compass is old now, but still performs well, and the glow is still very strong... they still make them, and I hope the versions have a better fitment of the strap, as removing it to clean can be time consuming when feeding the strap back into the case :-P Which Rangeman are you looking for, am guessing the GPR?

Both entertaining and informational thank you for an update. My eight year old rangeman 9400 is still my go to abc watch. I use by gg b100 for easy to visualize time keeping, the Gravitymaster gw a10001a and frogman gwf a1000 for analog stopwatch and timer functions. I am also beginning to be described as watched-out. :)

The GPR is my favorite. Barometric altimeters are useless here because of the constant weather changes. The compass is accurate. use it all the time. Use the Fenix 6 when exploring in brush because of the better map scale. My old PAG 50T uses the same compass as the Protrek. Had an epic ride on 10/24. Been rain and snow ever since. Hope you scared a bunch of kids on Halloween.
@WatchUP69MrRangeman3 жыл бұрын
Barometric sensors only work with the Barometer, it's more about being a quirk, but the GPR uses the GPS to correct the reading, so is the best of the G-Shocks in that department, also it's more accurate than the Garmin's :-P Any excuse to dress up on Halloween and prank people, and of course I did LML :-P I have a stalkers outfit, which is for birdwatching, but I've added more to it with ivy, then I stand by a bush and do my part... was at the Ice Cream shop as the time in our village... had 6 young girls scream so loud, that people came out of the restaurant next door including the waiters LML :-P I'm known as 'Bushman' LML :-P Will checkout your latest video over the weekend my friend... cheers as always my dear friend :))

@@WatchUP69MrRangeman so Garmin Instinct during the trip or hiking dont calibrate altimeter by GPS?? Thank you for your answer. All the best.
@WatchUP69MrRangeman3 жыл бұрын
@@tomaszwazinski2908 The GPS can be switched on Instinct to be on auto or select whether to use the sensor side... so when I start a 'Track Me' the altimeter is using the GPS connection... so in the setting to altimeter it'll have two options 'During Activity' and 'Not During Activity' and I have both turned 'ON' just so you know how I've set mine up. So unless the GPS is running, it'll be barometric sensor calculating the hight, just to be clear :) Cheers!

I think the ggb100 and grb200 are a cheaky way to replace the gulfmaster. instead of a depth sensor. tide and moon. it gives us a figure 8 calibration and 10x more accurate(precise) barometer.
@typerightseesight2 жыл бұрын
oh, whoa. the gulf does figure 8. now im all confused about the abc being all one rememberable button. NEAT. and its 4x precision not 10x. interesting. that gulfmaster was the one i always wanted but cost too much. lol. was waiting for a 3rd one since like 2015.

So which one it’s the best ?!
@WatchUP69MrRangeman3 жыл бұрын
For the perfect all rounder that holds all your needs would be the Fenix 6Pro without question... but if you're wanting the G-Shock side that isn't smart tech and will have a life time of use, then I would really consider the GW-9400... just a practical size and with how it works, makes it feel you have more... I've just bought the Blackout version and will make a video at one point, as there are some things I want to cover, and this isn't about the functions so much, but the other side to why we have the lust for a watch that's really about the looks... but the GW-9400 is the one that can't be faulted, maybe if the fine lines in the sub dial where removed, then it's perfect in my opinion. Hope that helps :))
