Adjustable DBs are Definitely a Must Have for Home Gyms The Only Problem is most Companies dont go up to a high enough weight.

I look forward to seeing the rest of your gym as you develop it. Bowflex were my first selectorised dumbbells. The same or similar model as yours. I liked them but after a year they developed a fault and the plates would slide off randomly. I then got Powerblocks with an add on kit for more weight. They have lasted me over ten years and only now have developed a fault where the plates stick in the base sometimes. I can live with that but if and when they get worse my next selectorised dumbbells will be Ironmaster.

Nice review. I have the Powerblocks. The 80 and 90 lb addons eventually broke at the weld points(after about 2 years), which was disappointing. I still use them up to 70 lbs on exercises, but, resorted to spin offs for the higher weights.

I have similar DB’s. They served their purpose. But I eventually saved and bought a DB set/rack. Best decision I made.

Did you get a full rack from 10-90 to make up for it? Seems like it would take up a lot of space. I also like that in theory I could bring these somewhere, though I probably wouldn't in most cases.

@@BrainsandGainsPodcast I got 5kg - 30kg (10-65 pounds). It takes up a bit of space but it’s worth it. I use the adjustable DB’s if I need to go heavier for pressing.

My major gripe with those are the plastic parts. Dumbells should take a beating for years and not become unusable because a small moving part broke. I'm partial to the ironmasters.

Solid review - comprehensive! I used them for like a year and half during the pandemic. I hated the shape for trying to do any form of chest press - really restricts your range of motion in the deep stretch. For the home gym - when you get the universal trainer, try to get one with a smith built in too. Some of them are very nice and you can do smith squats, presses and infinite rowing variations with the cables and bar

Take this with a grain of salt as it involves clumsy people and likely a prior iteration of the dbs as it was 8 years ago. I worked at a gym that had those and we had to keep replacing them/getting them fixed as the locking mechanism kept failing. My guess is that people were placing them roughly into the cradle (or dropping them).

I feel like adjustable dumbbells like these are good for warm ups and smaller movements like curls. And then plate loaded for working sets

So far they've been good for arm work and shoulders, which I've done with up to 75-80lb. I still use my plate loaded for rows.

@@BrainsandGainsPodcastyeah man. I find the plate loaded ones are so tedious to load and unload that I try to keep all dumbbell work second so that I don’t have to warm up with adjustables. Something like these would be much more pain free
