A core memory is driving my Volvo out into those roads a quarter century ago and laying in a sleeping bag watching a meteor shower. I wish I had found motorcycles back then, but I found minimalist camping at least.
@SterlingNoren2 күн бұрын
Sounds like a great memory, the desert can be magical.

Great video. I've ridden the "green lanes" in the UK with an 80+ yr old guy who has the 125 and he takes that thing absolutely everywhere. He gets up stuff (slowly) like a mountain goat, while some of us less experienced folks on Enduros and ADVs might get stuck. Experience trumps equipment :D

Very enjoyable video, I love that road! While establishing one of the first transcontinental records on motorcycle in 1914 Erwin Baker wrote about riding through the area. "I started over the famous Roosevelt Route. This route is similar to the picturesque Grand Canyon of Arizona. The ride of this day was a continuous one over narrow, dangerous cliff roads and the change in climate from hot desert sands to the snow-peaked mountains". Your little Honda has a wee bit more power and suspension than his did but the fun factor is still the same :)

Thanks for sharing Sterling. Great ride. The 125 is definitely holding it's own. Sadly, we've just canceled our long planned 2025, 30 day motorcycle ride throughout the USA. We'll just stay within Canada for now. Look forward to your next post.

Thanks to these videos, my Southwest Places To See moto camping planning file is 80% Arizona. I think of all of the round the world adventure travelers and that's great, but there is way more adventure in the US than I'll ever see... but I'm going to give it my best shot.

Ok you convinced me to get the map. I'm here in AZ and have explored many of the roads, but I was stopped at the dam end of the Apache Trail the day the fires started and closed it. I will have to get out of Northern AZ this winter and knock that one off of the list. The dirt road around the east side of Roosevelt Lake is also a great ride Keep the videos coming, waiting patiently for the MT BDR but I'm not getting any younger, so get to work on it. Thanks for another great adventure.

Some of the most beautiful colored granite processed in AZ there. I worked that area a few years. Kaintuck the Desert Dog Wonderful area. Through the week. AZ Desert Dog did a vid recently. Glad the road is open. I used to ride it on my BMW R1100RS. All I had.

Is there anywhere local around the Phoenix area to pickup butler maps? This video is perfectly timed as I had enough of the Adirondack winter and loaded the klr on the back of the camper in search of sunshine, dispersed camping and riding. Currently in Oklahoma making my way west. Your videos along with others inspired me to see the country sooner rather than later, after all there's no guarantees in life.

Maybe at one of the motorcycle dealerships?

I've been over it several times back in the early 60's and through the 80's. This road was built for the workers who built Roosevelt Dam. Teddy Roosevelt traveled it.

Now there’s a place I’ve actually been - Tortilla Flat and Apache Trail. But not for riding and camping unfortunately - used to go to Mesa once a year for work. Loved that whole Superstition Mts area. Was that little water crossing near the end of the video the same one that used to always be there just east of ‘town’?
@SterlingNorenКүн бұрын
The water crossing was just before the campground as I was heading north on/to bloody basin Road

I noticed that shot of the damn had those annoying power lines right in front of it. The BEST feature of modern high end mobile phones is the MAGIC ERASER or whatever the call it. You can delete those powerlines from your photo as if they had never been there. Not sure if you cam has that feature, if it doesn't you have now a VERY good reason to sell the need for a new camera to the Misses. No need to thank me, your welcome :)
