I’ve worn the Corozals all 2020-21 winter in England as a Motorcycle Courier, Drystar or Goretex, no difference, this was a very wet winter, my feet stayed bone dry, these Alpinestars Drystar Corozals are the best boot I’ve ever had, also extremely comfortable and stylish, for a motorcycle boot.

I started off with a pair of cheap Cortech Accelarator XC, but they turned out to be too "soft" and didnt offer enough support, particularly when standing on the pegs. Not too bad for walking, and they make for a pretty good set of winter touring boots. After some research, I decided on the Toucans. Yes, they are huge, heavy, they squeak like an angry pig, and are hard to walk around in, but the support is outstanding. Have not experienced any rain or water exposure with them (SoCal) , but the GoreTex is excellent at wicking away sweat and help make the boots surprisingly comfortable in hot weather. I bought mine directly from an Italian dealer and including postage and duty, paid about 65% of what they sell for here in the US.

I was excited when you suggested that an ADV boot should be comfortable enough to walk around in. I have an old pair of Alpine Stars Tech 3’s. Although they provide lots of protection and enough support that you can stand on the pegs all day, they are not great for walking around, they are so rigid that it is hard to shift and you get little feel from the brake lever, and they are useless in the wet. I am looking for something new. Thanks for doing this.

One of the things that Gaerne wanted to do with the G-Adventures was keep the number of panels used in the boot construction down to a minimum. Which is why the inside of the boot doesn't feature much of the paneling you see on other brands. Their reasoning behind this is somewhat simple I guess. The idea is, the fewer leather panels on the boot, the better it conforms to your foot thus providing a better fit. This makes sense If you are doing some Adventure riding that is more leisure oriented and not trail pounding, lets get lost in the sticks, middle of nowhere ride. Which would also explain the lack of ankle or heel reinforcement. Not to mention, in Europe there are a lot of gloriously smooth roads and towns are very close together; more-so than in Canada or the U.S. both of which have massive expanses of rough, sparsely habited terrain between two densely populated coasts. I just don't see an Italian Adventure rider spending as much time off-road due to a lack thereof as an Adventure rider living in North America. Anywho, thats my 2 cents. I thoroughly enjoy the time, thought and efforts you put in to your channel. Keep on keeping on.

I went with a closeout deal on the Roam 2. They are fantastic and so easy to get on and off that there’s never an excuse for me to not wear them. But I do want to get something heavier duty for trail riding on my WR250R. The Corozols seem like they would provide a bit more protection and bridge that gap without being a full out motocross boot.

+RyanF9; I was going to rate you after the rating on my boots; the Gaerne G-adventure. But turns out I have to submit; you make good reviews Ryan. Bought them for my last adventure ride; 45 000km straight. They are really comfy out of the box, they WERE waterproof for most of the trip. I was able to keep them on even for hiking and the soles are really good for offroading (even if they are on the softer side if you ride on regular pegs). But... after less than one year, leather cracks badly, stiches are gone at many places, and they are as waterproof as a scott towel... Bigger problem, when I wrote directly to Gaerne to have some kind of warranty about the waterproofing (6 months later), they didn't even replied after 3 emails.... Anyways, keep up the good work, you're off a good start with your reviews. Kinda hope canada's motorcycle offers more stuff bike's specifics than this to properly hit on revzilla... & if you extend your adventure riding to Yukon & Alaska, be sure to tell me...

Update on the Toucans I bought 10 months ago... Got them muddy wet in December...kept my fee dry and warm. Fell while riding my XR650L on forest road in February and broke my ankle...ortho said it was a twisting injury, dont know if boot contributed to injury, or prevented worse. Was off bikes for over four months. Have been using the Toucans exclusively as they are the only boot I have that supports my ankle enough to feel confident enough to ride again. This past week, I rode for four days in 110 heat and my feet were not as uncomfortable as I feared. Have been considering going to a full dirt boot to use when on the XR as I will take that bike into more challenging terrain than my GS...maybe a Tech 7 or Crossfire.

2022 update: Did a bit of research June/2022 and found that with the BMW Venture now sold out (a very few less common sizes are available at dealers as of June/2022 (46 and up), Alpinestars Toucan is probably the next best ADV trip boot, IMO. BMW Gravel is probably adequate for moderate trips, and is still available. Sidi, Gaerne make good Gore tex options (I am guessing Gaerne is good). Most mfg are cheap, don't last long and even Forma (supposedly makes BMW boot) are often not as good. Definitely buy the top model you can find, the $300 versions just leak, fall apart, etc. from the wide reading and conversations I've had in 2022. $300 options are possibly fine for a single trip, but many do leak from day one or day three. 1 BMW Venture (If available in your size before they sell out completely. They stopped making them due to labor issues). 2 Alpinestars Toucan/ possibly Gaerne waterproof $400 boot 3 possibly BMW Gravel/ Klim (cheaply made boot, costly) 4 $300 waterproof boots. -Good luck, and enjoy your miles!

I'm liking the "dinosaur" as you call it for my needs, which is 100% on-road riding. I have been looking for a more protective leather and waterproof "cruiser" boot. Believe it or not, there are really not many boots that fit this category. And since the "dinosaur" can be had for less than $200 now, I may go for it. I also like the Forma Adventure, but it is $279. Do you have any other suggestions for me?

$200 for G-Adventures sounds like a steal. I'd go for it. Not many other waterproof ADV boots at that price point, and most of them are super rigid. The nice thing about G-Adventures is they're fairly soft and walkable. Of course there are a million waterproof touring boots you could use (like the Roam 2s in this video). But I'm guessing you're looking for a bit more protection? The style is also quite different on those. ~RyanF9

Thanks. Yeah, boots like the Roam and Tourmaster Solution are all too low and not protective enough for what I am looking for...and they all look like slippers to me ha ha - not a good look on a Harley. I need a beefy, tall, waterproof leather boot with great shin protection that is sub $200. I might have to go with that Gaerne - just wish it had better ankle protection and lost that silly right boot shift pad. The Gaerne G-Adv is full grain leather, tall, waterproof, beefy sole, no power ranger panels/doo dads/reflective accents, and a nice smooth inner panel instead of all that funky heat shield stuff, which I personally don't need. Can't seem to find anything better for my needs.

Always enjoy your videos. When adventuring even with a light weight setup, right next to my water jug is a pair of light weight hikers, currently Adidas Terrex AX2R's barely a pound for the pair , often on sale for $60 bucks or less. I would never walk any significant distance in my heavy MX Boots. I would never sacrifice protection for a better riding boot to walk in and I would never pay over $300. FYI I am now 3 paydays away from purchasing a Vstrom 1000XT Adventure in the white and blue 2019, Jelly?

I splurged for the Toucans and have been wearing them for a year now. They are great ADV boots in terms of form and functions stated in this video. They are comfortable to walk in but this flexibility may be an issue. One issue was after a low speed (~15mph) crash into a ditch they did not offer the level of protection that I had anticipated from such a boot. My foot did not get twisted around and stayed on the peg throughout the crash. I ended up with class 2-3 sprains of the ankle. I guess I can play the what if I was wearing a lesser boot, would I have been injured more? Anyways just wanted to put this out there.

honestly, I think when riding a 500 lb bike, off road [especially if rocky, think colorado] you have missed the mark, and that's protection. None of these boots ,aside from the last pair of Alpinestars, offer much protection. if you want to go hiking, then throw a pair of hiking shoes in your backpack or panniers. If you want protection, with comfort,at the very least I would look at Forma's adventure boots. I think protection over 'hike-ability' should be the objective. I would also recommend Sidi Crossfires TA or SA. With the SA you change soles between moto or Enduro. The SA's break in is only a few hours and you can walk without feeling like robotman. The Forma's are priced very reasonable and offer way more shin and foot protection than anything mentioned in your review. I get that these are your favs, but you probably haven't sustained a foot injury. I have, and trust me , protection is the name of the game. And if your buying an adventure bike ranging from 12k to 25k, then a 300 to 500 dollar boot is chump change. What's your foot worth? I enjoy your videos, just wanted to give a different opinion.

Does it still make sense to go for a toucan over a Tcx Baja GTX or maybe a forma Adv Hdry ? & yes btw, the toucans can be used with a MX pants & we can enjoy some dual sport riding in them ? It won’t look weird with a MX pant ??

AG Coarseman I'm just never rode proper off-road. Had a Supermoto and took it to a light offroading. I'm confident riding standing up, shifting, braking no prob. And not afraid of rear sliding a bit.

Yesterday was out riding my XR650L having a blast on a newly opened truck trail (typically gated) was 5 miles or so up into the middle of nowhere and bobble in a rain rut, I think the bike stalled from the bobble but at any rate in classic newbie fashion I falled right over pinned in this rut ...it might not seem possible you cant throw a bike off you but trust me with the ground slope not in your favor and just so in a rut? and NOTHING to brace against or gain leverage with? I dont think anyone could get a 320llb motorcycle off them ...understand my leg was ALL THE WAY underneath being smashed in two places ...the ankle bone and further up side of the calf ....MAN was I wishing I had worn decent REAL offroad boots instead of army issue boots ....it was TORTURE for the 5 or 20 minutes (felt like an hour) before my faster riding brother came back ....he had finally stopped because he was tired and waited for me to catch up...finally when I didnt he came back down the road and got the damn thing off me ....never been more relieved to see him in my life! Well maybe I was more relieved to see him alive the following day after a head in high speed car crash almost killed him decades ago ....Anyway it CAN happen and it could kill you if you were alone in the middle of nowhere! Who knew? I am seriously thinking of putting crash bars on ...not to protect the bike but so I can extricate myself next time!

Forma Adventure - I have these boots super comfy but it is more kinda touring boot - too soft... no protection from twists whatsoever. Gaerne GX-1 Enduro - cheaper price tag premium quality and much much better protection. I ride dual sport and prefer to have my ankles more protected when bike lands on my foot on rocky terrain.

What, no mention of the Sidi Adventure boots? There are two versions one with Gore-Tex and one with a generic waterproof liner (aka cheaper). They also have ankle hinges which means they are very nearly as protective as race or motocross boots.

I really love mine, but I probably wouldn't recommend them if he is rating them on dual purpose riding/hiking. They are very stiff when new and still pretty stiff once they "break in." They're also not light and your gait won't be the same as running shoes. On the plus side they are waterproof, very comfortable on the bike (or at your local Starbucks), and offer protection just shy of a motocross boot, while not being so restrictive that it looks like you're walking around with ski boots on. My only gripe about them is that the ankle hinges squeak after a while so I have to spray them with some lube.

Picked up my Sidi Adventure Gore-Tex boots out of Europe delivered to my door 6 yrs & 50,000 km ago. 1st "true" motorcycle boot I have owned & I love them. Yes the squeak is annoying, but the protection they offer is worth it. My one complaint was I couldn't get them small enough to fit my little lady; I like her gear to be as good as mine even if she is primarily a passenger. Now that she has started riding on a Grom, even more so

Advice... be careful with the alpinestars they are a little larger around the calfs than most adventure boots and over the boot pants for me are very tight compared to boots like but Forrma or Gaerne or tcx drifter

I’m trying to decide between motocross boots or adventure boots. I ride highways, but am more concerned about performance in the dirt. I don’t know if comfort would be an issue with motocross boots on the highway for more than an hour at a time, but I don’t want to sacrifice too much protection off-road. Does anyone have any insight?

Motocross boots are fine on the freeways and much safer than these boots off road. I have Alpinestar Tech 7s...excellent protection and very comfortable for dual sporting. Not 100% waterproof, but then just wear waterproof socks. They are heavier when you walk, so don't wear them if you plan on hiking.

Hi.. Congratulations for you review. The Alpinestars Toucan Gore text adventure boots are top quality. But I think that you forgot to review the SIDI Adventure Gore-Tex Boots, because the SIDI boots are also top quality boots, In your opinion, which one is a better choice ?? I appreciate your review. God bless...

I bought Toucans but it was a close decision over the SIDIs. Both are excellent, high quality boots. Depending on the market, one might be more expensive than the other. I bought directly from Italy and the shop I used had the SIDIs lightly cheaper, but they didnt have my size when I ordered and I have two other pairs of A-Stars boots. You cant go wrong with either.
