I bought the Klim Krios Pro recently, and OMG is it light. It is actually surprisingly quiet for it’s weight. I have a SENA 50S installed on it, and even with that setup its still very light. I have gotten up to 85mph on my Triumph Tiger 1200 GT Explorer and with the music playing, I don’t notice the noise as much. Downside is a lack of cutouts for speakers so it takes a bit of finesse to get them in the exact spot.

It is quiet and comfortable, dissapointed with my xd5 of the same size it's too tight having hot spots in just an hour of riding, noisy and peak vibrates a lot. I'll try to take some of the paddings but I don't know if it'll do on top of my brows.

Your review is absolutely consistent with my experience with this list of helmets. I have tried them all except the Shark Modular. For what it’s worth to anyone struggling with “which one to buy” my preference on fit is the Shoei - I’m definitely a Shoei head shape kinda guy! The best budget option is hands down the Bell MX-9. It’s also a Shoei head shape friendly design that will be comfortable for anyone who leans toward Shoei helmets for fit. Noise is a factor with the Bell but I wear noise cancelling buds in any event-I can hear my music & comms on the trails but NOT at highway speeds. The Arai is not nearly as quiet at the Shoei (Hornet is the quieter by far) but both are hot & need better ventilation especially where I live in Australia. The Klim Krios simply doesn’t fit my head shape even after trying a different shell size pad configuration - it’s very light no argument but it’s also noisy and it doesn’t have dedicated speaker ports - a deal breaker for me! The price of the Klim is prohibitively expensive and NOT worth the extra expense notwithstanding the included transitions shield (I rather wear tinted goggles). It’s Shoei V2 Hornet for me everyday of the week!

I have the scorpion. I love it! It is a touch heavy. But it's worth it to have that chin bar that flips up. Especially when it's really hot. And you're riding low speeds. You get so much air flow. And it's pretty quiet.

I have the Scorpion, the main issue I have is that the interior is annoying to remove and that the cheekpads and the crown foam is one unit. And then we have the squeaks from the foam rubbing on the EPS liner. The visor screws tend to get loose so check them before you ride, if they rotate out the beak will fly off and take the visor with it. Also the included pinlock didn't fit.
@patring6204 күн бұрын
It's a cheap helmet. The visor lasted a day of road riding on mine before I took it off. It kept coming loose as described above. The snap in head liner is plastic with snap nubs that fit into the helmet material. Instant fail. The liner won't stay in place at all. I had to use some tack material to get it to stay in, which I have to clean off every time I clean the liner. The liner has come out of the back of mine and before each ride I have to tuck it in. If you turn your head at highway speeds, you often get a rattle of something in the visor mechanism. Duct tape fixes the rattle. The vents don't work at all. I am not sure why. Front vent and upper vent don't change anything inside the helmet. I've tested with an air hose. Finally, it's the loudest helmet I've ever worn. I replaced the Scorpion with a Shoei, and while I miss the modularity, I feel like I am wearing a comfortable hat with the Shoei. Difference between night and day, and extremely quiet.
@simulacrae3 күн бұрын
@@patring620 yeah, you're right. I don't think I've noticed the vents doing anything special either. Except for the exhaust at the back where I've seen condensation on cold days which means that hot and moist air is going out. But we all know what we want, we want Shoei to put a beak on the Netoec 3. Do that and I will wait in line to buy it. But I'ven been reasonably happy with my ADX 2/960, the modular bit goes a long way in making it a helmet you can live with.

Excellent comparison, thank you. I’m in the market, and likely going with the Hornet. The spanner in the works is the recent announcement of the Leatt, which comes with a photchromic lens and set of goggles, all for the same price as the Arai/Shoei. Wonder what your thoughts on that one are.

I have owned an XD4 - definitely the most comfortable and quiet and believe about the safest helmet I have owned , BUT unfortunately because I have a neck injury was just to heavy, I had a big crash 3 years ago wearing an Airoh Commander, the base of the helmet- that protrudes out at base ( for neck brace ) hit a tree which caused me an 8cm brain bleed 🩸, and had brain surgery THATS why I strongly agree with Arai and their safety helmet round shape . So now I use the Klim Kros pro a fantastic light helmet, but noisy , I’m 12 months the paint has faded, had to get a new liner , the visor comes lose easy now , had to put tape at each corner so it will stay open . ( and never closed as well as the Arai XD4 ) I actually think the old Klim Kris was actually lighter . If I did have a stuffed neck would go back to the XD4 or 5.

The new Leatt ADV helmets appear to have serious ventilation, and they look great with the cut outs in the chin bar like MX helmets. Also you can choose between lightweight carbon fiber or standard poly. Also it has the auto tinting shield. I think it’s going to blow the competition out the water, but, they gonna come at a premium price.

Good comparison. Thanks. I know pricing can vary after posting a video, generally increasing, but it'd be nice to state the current price in the video so we have a good comparative feel for features and price. I'm still riding with my 1999 Shoei helmet and don't really have any complaints, but I've been thinking about upgrading. I'd like a drop down visor as I often need to be able to flip it up in the shadows on the east side of a hill at sunset and quickly flip it down when I top the hill and I'm staring straight into a fusion reactor 93 million miles away. There's no time to put sunglasses on and take them off. Does a Transitions lens automatically darken as quickly as I can flip down a visor? I wish retailers had a simple test fixture to measure helmet wind noise at the rider's ears for every helmet they sell. It'd be even better if Snell did that manufacturer independent testing. Noise is very fatiguing on a long ride and I'm willing to pay more to have less noise. It's one of my primary criteria when helmet shopping but it's difficult to comparison shop based on wind noise.

im using a CKX Quest, it's very affordable and it as the drop-down visor!... but it's very noisy and not the best for those colder morning, but putting duct tape on some vents will help lol

Rocky Mountain doesn't carry Nolan. RZ has them on closeout. I'm not sure why their distribution in the USA is limited. I love the wide field of view of my N70-2 X and I'm not buying a claustrophobic lid again. Not listing the field of view in helmet descriptions seems pretty dumb.

Had a couple of Klim Krios Pro, both for me and the passenger, bought from 2 different distributors. Yes, they're super light, yes they ventilate superbly, yes the transition visor is great, tho in bright sun doesn't help much. BUT BOTH Helmets leaked in a rather light rain. Adjustment of the visor is impossible with them, as you cannot find a good adjustment. Sent the helmet back to Klim, they replied that being a ventilated helmet they do not guarantee waterproofing. Sent the helmet back to me "adjusted", with a 5mm gap everywhere the visor should seal. Which defeats one of the basic purposes for having a helmet. Even if would, i wouldn't expect this for a 900 EUR helmet. Replaced it with LS2 Explorer Carbon, which addresses all the above issues, for 200 gr more weight ,but for less than half of the price.

Huge XD4 fan. Have had two of them over a decade. Love the XD4. Got an XD5. Hate it! Short in the face. My nose contacts the front. Visor is so high it is useless. Does not work as a sun visor and barely keeps branches out of my face. Noisy compared to the XD4. Interior is no longer plush like the XD4. WTF Arai? Yeah, you finally made a shield that comes off without tools. Nice work catching up to Shoei ten years later. Everything else is a minus. Have been trying desperately to find a NIB silver XD4 in medium to replace mine that is too old to be serviced by Arai. Try before you buy if you are replacing an XD4. The XD5 is not a step forward. Correction; the Krios Pro is significantly more quiet than the Hornet X2. Hornet measured at 102dB, Krios at 98db. Because decibels are logarithmic, this is a rather large difference. Every 3dB is roughly doubling of the sound energy. Even if the wearer can't tell between 98 and 102db, their ear is experiencing twice the energy. What crazy is that the Krios Pro is actually quieter than my Arai Contour-X, which is a dedicated road helmet
@MickH605 күн бұрын
Correction, I've worn helmets that are supposed to be quiet that were horrendously LOUD, I never go on listed numbers, wear the helmet and then work it out from there. There are a lot of factors that can up the amount of noise you hear in a helmet, I ignore the numbers, they tend to be misleading....
@GoodkatNW5 күн бұрын
@@MickH60 I have both, the Krios is quieter (significantly so). Tested on the same bike with the same rider is a fair comparison. Helmet sound differences tend to be related to the fairing and/or windscreen on any given bike Both in person and measured results back up my comment.

Just a warning to anyone thinking about the AT-960. I’ve been trying to get the clear pinlock face shield since I bought the helmet in July 2024 and they are impossible to find. I messaged Scorpion on 08/29/2024 to see what was up and they didn’t reply to me until 09/23/2024 and told me they would be out of stock until mid November. It’s mid December and I still can’t get it. Pretty annoying.
@YTReid7554 күн бұрын
One option may be to order a pinlock faceshield and lens from Europe. The European equivalent to the AT-960 is the ADX-2. Interestingly, the ADX-2 comes with a pinlock shield installed on the helmet and a pinlock lens in the box. This is one of the reasons I ordered an ADX-2 from Europe rather than purchasing an AT-960 locally. I live in Canada and the ADX-2 was a way better deal than an AT-960. It was less expensive (~C$150, even after shipping and taxes) plus the helmet comes with extras (pinlock shield and lens) that I would have to pay extra for if I bought a AT-960. It was a no brainer, really.
@ski1024264 күн бұрын
@ That’s even more annoying knowing you can pay the same amount of money and get the pinlock included somewhere else. I’m just going to get a different helmet, Probably the Nexx xwed. Between the forever response and lack of production for them currently it seems that Scorpion isn’t the greatest company to deal with either. Pretty sad because that’s one of their most popular helmets from what I gather.
@YTReid7554 күн бұрын
@@ski102426 I cannot speak to helmet prices in the US but the deals one can find buying from Europe vs in Canada are significant; plus the European helmets typically come with a pinlock lens which make them that much more of a better deal. It's why the last two helmets I've purchased have been from Europe. I have riding buddies who do the same.
