I’ve done “cage”, motorcycle AND semi truck on long trips. The problem I’ve run into the most is people in fast vehicles don’t have the first clue about how fast they catch people driving normal speeds. For example: Semi truck driver looks in mirror, sees headlight, judges that it’s at least half a mile away, looks back forward to set up his lane change and pass, and the following unit catches up and ends up in a blind spot. Not the truck’s fault. Live and learn.

Sweet, ZG1000 or 1400? Concours's dont die! I have an 03 ZG1000 that I bought with ~35k and am almost at 100k miles now with ZERO engine issues. Adjusted valves and rebuilt the carbs at 60k for maintenance, replaced a leaking lower rad hose around 75k. Changed clutch plates at 65k as maintenance but when I took it apart the plates were still at the top range of factory spec and didnt even need it. Thats it! Currently 96k miles and ridden daily, few months away from the magic 100k :). Benefit of running a motor so "detuned" is extreme lifespan, its the freaking 90s Corolla of motorcycles - just wont die. The newer 1400 Connies are super reliable too for most of the same reasons (detuned engine that has been in use for a long time with most of the "kinks" already worked out), but are waaaayyyyy faster. My only complaint is the anemic 110hp, but gobs of low end TQ at a lower RPM range than most literbikes make that less of a big deal at "legal" speeds.

Back, I believe in the 70's or 80's, a UMass Amherst college student did it with an old BMW with Jerry Cans where the saddle bags would be, plus he had the BMW desert tank. Later in life he used an 1100 Ninja with higher handlebars and forward pegs protruding out of the fairing for comfort. He even had something set up to take a leak while he was riding and a tank of Mountain Dew with a hose setup for his caffeine fix. He had his taillight on a dimmer so when he was being chased by a cop he just slowly turned it down so it looked like he was pulling away, then when it was off he would just turn off and let the cop pass. His story was written up in one of the magazines back in the 90's.

He broke the Cannonball record and qualified for membership in the Iron Butt Association on the same trip. Except his lack of a sore butt should disqualify him from Iron Butt as a matter of principle. 😂

I thought being apart of the iron butt association would be cool but cannonball record is bad ass.

I miss my FJR. First ever new vehicle I'd ever owned (2007 black cherry)

The FJ1300 is a badass bike in the mid 2000's. It changed a lot in the industry.

Been thinking about buying a FJR, this has convinced me. Great run.

I got an 07 w 87k on it. Had it since new, can't kill that motor ever. It is a beast, always reliable... I love it. Do it

I rarely use the rear brake except when stopped on a hill. If you are on the front brake hard the rear only weighs a few pounds.

I've had my 07 fjr for just over 2 years now and I daily ride it year round to work in Norcal

I did 24 hours on a CBR600RR and at the end, I was delirious and hallucinating and you did 32 hrs!

I've done KY/TN to CA several times in a car in the early 00's (fastest average was 82mph)...cannot imagine doing it on a bike, let alone with today's traffic. I can't believe the seat was that comfortable with those juevos.

I had an 04 FJR 1300 back in the day - it is a sucha great bike congrats!

Yes as long as the bike your riding is a decent bike it's also a great bike.

Baby Stark would have rode me over a cliff too, ive done Venice Italy to northern England in 30 hrs with a sleep stop through flooded roads in a huge thunder storm two up and was exhausted for 2 days so hearing what you did is amazing, truely well done

Doing the run on a motorcycle is nuts. With Baby Shark stuck in your head...true insanity!

I drove from Swansea Massachusetts to Kanab Utah in 40 hours in my 1999 Ford Ranger with 330k on it. I was actually hallucinating when I got to Kanab.

I rode from Nova Scotia to California and back on a BMW S1000RR, but I took 2 months to do it. Most awesome trip I have ever taken.

I took my stock 08 klr 6 trips from so cal to wa, back. 1100 miles each direction. Took 18hrs from cali to wa. From wa to so cal 16 half. Earned my iron ass 6 times over. Had no throttle lock.

The Baby Shark made me ROTFL!!! I have a grand daughter....I know. Floor boards sounded great. Day Long seat sounds great. I have an ST1300 and those seats and the heat off the engine is a bitch. To hold 90+ on that bike would rattle my head off. The fairings aren't great. I believe you had a better bike.

Amazing story. I am not built to attempt anything like that. I am going coast to coast in 2026 if I am still able to ride at 72 years old. I got a new Goldwing in 2022 that continues to beg me for more trip miles. 1st 6 months only 7500 miles, 2nd season 10,000 miles, and 16,000 miles in 2024. Not a fan of concrete multi-lane travel, but love our 2-lane blacktop!! West Virginia was dam cool! The Pocono’s was fun too. I just love it! ✌️❤️
