How do you decide on which philosophies you identify with? Are they descriptive or prescriptive? For example, if someone considers themselves a Stoic, are they already living that way, or are they aspiring to live that way? I find that it's hard to gather a bunch of philosophical ideas and pin point which ones I identify with the most or aspire to be. Since every day feels different. Do they talk about the "how" to live more like a Stoic, for example?

I completely understand. I would say it is half intuition in sync with personal values and half knowledge and learnings? I don't think something like a "perfect Stoic" exists. Even thoughts of the most respected authors differ and as with every philosophy, it's impossible to say what's right and what's wrong. I see philosophy as an aspiration and I think it is important to critically review all possible resources and focus on what feels right and realistic rather than on having a clear label... Or at least that is my personal opinion :).
