Hey Guys, let's take a look at the Delptronics LDB-2e and the LDB-2x. These modules have been some of my most favorite recently. I'm not huge into performing live with my modular setup, but these two really help get all the drums I need for typical live playing to my sets.
This is probably the most affordable way into a bunch of Analog Eurorack drums sounds

Thanks for putting the drums in the context of a song I hate drum machine reviews where the machine is reviewed purely dry because it’s not really fair. Of course the drumbrute sounds boring by it self but within the context of an arrangement it comes to life

I'm actually the exact opposite. I hate when people do reviews with FX on. You can never really get an accurate sense of what you are hearing unless its dry. I do agree that it is helpful to hear stuff both dry and in the context of an arrangement though.

I agree with you both, I need to hear both the wet and dry sounds. Hopefully I was able to satisfy both since I incorporated the dry during the sounds examples towards the middle.

@@catalystaudio2840 I totally agree. I can't stand when Perfect Circuit reviews a module but saturates it in effects. You can't tell what is "effect" and what is the underlying oscillator.

For the cheap DIY route, look up the CB-55. It's a DR-55 clone that you can modular-ize, give it triggers and individual outs. It's super easy so a beginner can do it, and the PCB only costs 12 dollars. The snare is huge and the kick drum sounds like it could punch through a concrete wall.

When I think of modular I think of patterns and sequences and then manipulating those patterns with various levels of logic and modulation, ultimately yielding a self-playing patch that the user simply steers in a direction that's sonically pleasing. I must say I've never seen you do this with your modular system, though. You seem to be more inclined to play it like a traditional synth voice, which is absolutely great, but when I see musicians that are so drawn to expression/groove/improvisation I can't help but wonder if they might better suited for a traditional standalone synth setup, like your Moog, Rev-2, Rhodes and a drum machine tied together with a sequencer or looper. I mean you obviously love your modular system because it's what you've chosen, but I'm just saying all this in consideration of the actual music and jam sessions I've heard/seen you create. Though it's very possible that you just have your own reasons for not sharing the patch-building stuff as much. Thanks for all your great videos!

You’re definitely not wrong Joseph, I may think of Modular in a different way than the average Modular fan. My Modular is like the ultimate DAW without a screen. I hate noodly modular synth patches, just the keyboardist in me. I’m looking the harmony changes, the ability to modulate tonal foundations, but in a controlled way. Tougher in the eurorack world. I like to have a sampler, many delays, a few drum choices, a keyboard. Basically I want the flexibility, of an entire DAW with no computer interface. With a keyboard and my Modular I can do almost anything free from the workstation. Hence why I shoot the videos in this dramatic fashion, I’m showing (trying at least in my crazy art mind lol) that this is all you need for many different kinds of musical expression, not just the noodly, but for the precise musician, the producer, or the self-playing patch. I found that when I searched for modular it was all the self playing stuff, bleeps-bloops, and unfortunately, that’s not personally my thing...so hopefully by showcasing something a little different I can help people with sensibilities similar to my own that modular can be for you, it’s the ultimate “build your own synth” :)

Ah I see. For me personally, when I want to really jam and build a track outside my DAW, I find that loading my custom presets on a standalone hardware synth is an approach that keeps me in the flow state (even if the patching possibilities are more limited). It's really cool that you're approaching modular from a new direction, though! A very interesting idea, and certainly much more fun than fiddling with plugins in a DAW.

How do you make a chunky and rich kick drum, one that sounds like king kong hitting something big perhaps? I guess it's done with effects and layering in some sampler / DAW although it might start out with something like this module.

Ouch my left ear. The Delptronics sounds fine for that HP. But if you can't aford something better like the Hexinverter stuff, or SSF Entity, Basimilus...etc., i'd go for an external one. Not everything must be in eurorack. Volca Beats sounds great to be fair. Even the new Drumbrute Impact, which is a good buy. Cheers mate.

I’m using Resolve, it’s a more recent switch. I always forget that I have to check my meters before export since my interface at the moment isn’t playing nicely with the audio bussing. I’m kinda annoyed by this, it’s not a big deal, but it’s gonna eat at me.

Resolve is great for color grading. like the new addition of Fusion. That's a nice touch. For editing is not there yet. I prefer Adobe for most of the things, and also for the great integration of AE and Audition. It's super easy to work with audio files and edit them on the fly.

Volca Beats sounds like straight up dogshit tho... If you don't have much money and need analogue, at least pick up a DR-110 instead (it's easy to do a MIDI mod if needed).

Sample if you want realistic drum sounds. Synthasized percussion on the cheap; this could fit nicely, and would be readily available.

Ha! Mostly 'cause your a damn good musician and your production values make many corporate efforts look like student projects on iMovie. Honestly shame on me. I've had a Korg MS20 for a couple of years and I've not explored the patch bay. I've basically found patches on the MS20 patchbay site, replicate them and play with the sound. ....though if I get to know my MS20's patch bay I would want to add a Eurorack to it!!!! Yikes!

Hey T.N. obviously everything is subjective, I felt I laid out the demos in the best way possible with contextual performance and some individual examples. That said, I personally dislike too much sound demos and not enough of the user expounding on their personal thoughts as a musician. So unfortunately this may not the a channel that will make you happy to watch, I don’t do no talking all sounds videos as those drive me crazy. I do share my subjective opinion, I talk, but it’s what the audience has come to appreciate so yeah. It just may not be for cup of tea. I thank you sincerely for watching and your feedback :)

I want to add that I think this video sucks, one of my worst from a technical and editing perspective. I didn’t do a good job with the audio editing or fades or even the freaking mapping. This was just not quality. It won’t happen again.

I agree, to me they sound great as underlying rhythm bed for my TipTop drum modules....like all things in the creative world, nothing is for everyone :)

You really have to patch it up to give it what it needs. I regularly run it through some saturated amplification or a diode distortion, sometimes both. It plays nice with the Miasma distortion module.

Hey. I love your videos but I felt I should share that I sometimes get tired of the "news reporter-y" delivery. Would like to see you try a more natural feel if possible. But you've got your structure so I get it if you don't.

Hi Geoff, thank you for saying this...it’s tough and super subjective. When I present the videos I do it how I naturally would...it’s the natural performer in me. Even if it sounds strange, that’s naturally me so I can’t change it. It’s super subjective, though I totally get what you’re saying. When I do off the cuff videos I get people saying they miss these types of videos and I also get just the opposite. All that said, I just do what I feel is fun for me. That said, if you have any objective changes shoot me an email like detailing those. I’d like to make changes to fit people’s subjective preferences, but seems people all like different things. That said, if my audio is low or harsh sounding or I’m not speaking clearly enough, stuff that could help everyone objectively please let me know. I truly appreciate it! :)
