Wow I was shocked to see Dreamless Veil. I feel like not a lot of people talked about that album. A lot of these picks are right on par for what I loved this year too. I also appreciate what you had to say about Fulci. I feel like a lot of people completely wrote off that album because of the rap song. However, understanding the theme and timeframe the album was set it does just make sense. It took me a bit to get used to that but when it clicked it all made sense. Great list!

About that solo on Gates of Hell. When the album dropped I said the same thing about the solo in Devil in Disguise, the song before Gates of hell on the album. Both are so good!. I know I’m biased since Priest is my favorite band for 40 years but still, what an achievement after all these years!

Sovereign, Darkthrone, Neon Nightmare, Chapel of Disease, Inter Arma, Judas Priest, all are really high for me. Right now my favorite wavers between Chapel of Disease and Blood Incantation. I would say albums from Ard, Critical Defiance, Anciients, Hail Spirit Noir, and Kanonenfieber are essential listens from this year, as well as the new Veilburner that just dropped today. Still holding out for Opeth and a few others before I fully formulate my list.

Check out my no. 1 - Castle Rat - Into the Realm. It's doom that feels like it has been recorded in 70s. They have very memorable riffs and vocal melodies, early Sabbath vibes and an insanely captivating live shows. Great stage presence, costumes and overall concept. Watch any of their gigs. Also their music videos look like shot in 70s England's forests with analog camera or something.

🤔 i always start working out my albums of the year list on December 1st & post on social media on December 31st the results, fear not I'm not the where's Blood Incantation brigade 😂 but they did release my album of the year ahead of Judas Priest & Hulder consisting of my top 3, the rest 99% Death Metal I still need to work out in what order in my top 20, one bands 2024 release I've on route on vinyl Neon Nightmare I was admittedly on the fence about buying it 😮 until i watched Scnell in Philly review it on KZbin that sold me on it as he's my go to reviewer i never listen to music digitally until i own the physical copy he normally gets me of the fence great 📼 it did remind me to buy Arcana Rising which I've now got, it came out so early this year i didn't buy it at the time & it completely slipped my mind to buy it 🙄
