Great list! The honesty of this list is refreshing. “Gimmie three steps” was the first song I remember obsessing over. The old man had the cassette in the car back in 80’s

Great episode, I checked out both the Gene Clark and Tyler Childers albums as the only ones on the list I’m not familiar with. It’s a great point about some “classic” albums being so popular because they are just bloody good. Keep Riffing.

man, can't say enough about how glad I am to now know about Rwake, holy shit, i don't know how I missed this band but somehow I did, better late than never I suppose, thanks for this crucial highlight on this list! Voices of Omens....what a strange and glorious beast! Loving it. Big ups to the big riff energy! 🤘

Every single album on this list is a masterpiece and I'm now going to listen to them all at once. (The ones that didn't quite make it, i.e. The Evil One, A Sun That Never Sets, are also big faves of mine)

Thanks so much for the recommendation of Gene Clark's "No Other". Listened this evening for the very first time and found it to be really outstanding. I will definitely be listening multiple times. Loving the episodes, man. Keep it up!

I have never listened to a Skynyrd album until this breakdown . I know you have mentioned your admiration for this band specifically the albums released before the crash. I finally hit play . It’s been a fun ride . Such a warm cooked sound. Glad I finally did it.

You got me into Testament. It's a debt I can't repay When I heard Formation of Damnation for the first time, that album when they were 20 years into their career, when all the 80s thrash bands completely sucked, when nobody cared about them, and then For the Glory of/More Than Meets the Eye comes on... No way Love ya!!!!

I had older brothers who would listen to Bon Jovi, Def Leppard etc. so that's what I grew up on in the 80's. I was a teen in the 90's and saw The Wildhearts on Top of The Pops (BBC1) with their song 'I Wanna Go Where The People Go' and it blew my mind! This band really opened me up to metal, punk and grunge and sent me right down the rabbit hole of awesome bands. Still one of my favourite bands and their song 'Inglorious' is my favourite track... Some of my favourite riffs ever!

When you said 2003, it literally took me back , I was so into a lot of the stuff on Razorback, Necropolis records and MCR Japan, lots of grindcore and extreme stuff, but right about that time (2003) I also got deep into 70’s and 60’s bands , so , I was extremely late to Pink Floyd too . Those first two Annihilation time albums are gold my friend ! I think this is the first time I actually see somebody talk about them on KZbin !

Following the breadcrumbs was totally it. The liner note shout-outs, the Metal Blade compilations, and the poster catalogue in all the Wax Trax releases( if you haven't, check out the "Industrial Accident" documentary about Wax Trax, those dudes were freak Rock & Roll, and it all started in Hope AR...) .

One album that really hit me at the right time in my early 20’s was a cult classic from Athens, GA called the Glands (self titled album). Not many folks are familiar with this record, but it is an unsung indie rock gem that has an album structure and production style akin to a classic rock album. It is that type of record that takes you on a journey, yet you can also just listen to single songs if you wish. This album takes the best parts of indie rock and throws out the pretentiousness that plagues the genre at times. Ross Shapiro, the main songwriter, owned a record store and you can tell by his songwriting that he loves every genre of music. He became a recluse towards the end of his life and refused to treat the cancer that ended up killing him. The vocals can take some getting used to, and it might not be an immediate love for some folks, but it is an album I will champion forever. You might dig it Nate, or you might hate it hahaha.

I'd say I'll name 5. Metallica's "Master of Muppets". I remember hearing the title track on the radio and just being memorized by the guitar tone and the speed. Mercyful Fate's "Melissa". Someone in high school showed me the song Black Funeral and said "Listen, he's saying All Hail Satan!" Ozzy Osbourne's "No Rear. for The Wicked". I had a friend who played in a band that he played the solo in. He said he stole the solo from Miracle Man. So I checked the record out and it blew my mind. Zakk's solos give my goosebumps still to this day. Misfits, the song "Where Eagles Dare". I was big into playing World of Warcraft in high school that a video I saw about a memorial of a real life player, someone dubbed that song over the video. Had to download the rest of their discog lol. Mayhem's "De Mysterious Dom Sanctus". I remember listening to that album on the CD store 10 sec sampler. It scared the shit out of me hearing what that was. But it piqued my interest to check out what I didn't know at the time was 2nd wave of black metal. I was maybe 15, 16? Also realizing there are way better bands in that subgenre.
