I just bought one of the 3rd gen pro remotes and noticed that there is now a newer model the "3rd gen pro PLUS" FOR $2 LESS ($7.99). It appears almost identical to the 3rd gen pro with 2 exceptions: 1) there is one new button on the top right to support wireless blue tooth headphones. 2) the newer model now SUPPORTS THE FIRE STICK 4K MAX GEN 2! Try trading in your current one for the newer model, save $2, and it might solve your problem.

Who knew; thanks @lucacs for the tip. Have you actually tried this remote with the 4k max gen 2? The reason I ask is the problem for me was the app opener was not available on the Amazon app store for me. I did find it on the Aptoide tv app, but it wouldn't map to the remote buttons, and did not appear on my list of available apps for the remote. It seems like not a remote issue but a block from Amazon to get app opener?

Based on past conduct, I suspect Amazon will find a way to defeat this function. Anything that defeats or compromises their annoying ads is usually addressed with upgrades to their system.

The remote functions won't stop working because they have a remote they sell that has same types of buttons. The only thing they could do is ban the App Opener app but not sure they will do that as it has other uses.

Hi Troy: Well I got the remote; but unable to get the app opener on my amazon app store. It says "app cannot be found." I did get it on the Aptoide store-free. It does link to my project ivy app. But is won't appear on the remote button 1 or 2. Clearly not an Amazon app. Any ideas? Many thanks.

Hello, unfortunately it sounds like you are trying this on an older Fire TV device. You will see in my video toward beginning where I show which ones it supports. It appears to only support the newer Fire TV models such as Fire TV Stick 4K Max, Lite, and Cube. I would suggest sending it back and getting a refund.

For me, a few reasons. 1. More storage as the Onn 4K Pro comes with 32GB or storage and Max comes with 16GB. 2. Mods are still allowed such as 3rd party launchers, ADB commands, mouse toggle, etc.

Yes for $200 you get high-end audio codecs. For $50 you get the onn 4K Pro which performs exactly the same as the Nvidia shield apart from these high-end audio codecs

You may be using an older Amazon Firestick. I believe that app only works with the newer ones.

Didn't work for me, it downloaded app opener and that's all I can find in my apps. Projectivity Launcher is no where to be found. I tried it twice. What could've gone wrong?

Hello @wanaraz so you can customize it the way you want and get rid of all the ads for streaming services that you may never use. Plus, it's faster using a 3rd party launcher as it's not constantly pulling information from Amazon servers.

So question. … Great video and clear step by step instructions. I’m just trying to make sure I understand why we would do this ? Currently I use my fire stick with no issues. I have had to stop using Cinema which was my main streaming app for movies and tv shows. But it does not work the same anymore. I found another app that works fine (tea tv). What’s the purpose of this? If I’m reading correctly are you saying that with an upcoming update the Firestick and other Amazon devices will no longer be able to sideload non apps ?

Hello Nicole, this is meant to get rid of all the clutter on the main Fire TV interface. They are constantly pushing ads for streaming services we will never use. This allows us to create our own user interface and design it the way we want it.

There's a lot of reviews on the Amazon page for that remote which say exactly the same thing. That it stutters and judders around when you try navigating with it. I have returned it and I'm getting the official Amazon pro remote, which is on offer for $24.

I got a new 2024 Firestick 4K and could not use my USB devices anymore! Something about privacy issues. So, I returned it. I need a direct wire connect for my USB Ethernet so I do not depend on WiFi. I also used to back up my settings to a USB...can't anymore. So I returned it. If anybody is still buying these devices in 2024, DON'T! Unless, of course one doesn't use USB peripherals on Firestick. Oh, yeah...did I mention I returned it? Maybe Troy or someone can come up with a way to allow USBs on the new Firesticks.

Hello, don't think you can get a mouse toggle working anymore on Firesticks unless you issue some adb commands from a computer. Another reason to use Android TV/Google TV...mouse toggle app still working great on those.
