I bought my wife a used mobility scooter. I took the batteries out to charge them, but the first one, after two days, didn't seem to want to take a charge. So, I ordered two new 35ah batteries for it. It seemed like as soon as I put the order in, the first one started to take a charge. The second one as well. Now I had 2 deep cycle batteries. So I did what anyone else would; I bought two .50 cal ammo boxes from Harbor Freight and made a couple of battery boxes. they are working well. Oh, and my wife loves her mobility scooter as well.

I was thinking of creating an ammo box battery pack. I went with the 9Ah battery and a small triband HAM Radio. I will be adding some Andersen pole plugs in order to plug it into my Pelican case Power Pack. I have a portable 150w self aligning solar power array on a tripod. The pelican case does have a built in check valve as a vent but I will be charging/discharging with the case open. I will also add a charge display. Thank you for sharing!! You gave me some good ideas!

With the ammo box it doesn’t vent. Is there any concern about temperature getting to hot in the summer if your outside?

It's just a battery and a usb adapter, nothing to get very hot or that won't work with outdoor temps.

How you charge it? Bc i saw a lot a vid like this and they only charge it with solar stuff

at 3:18 he shows you the SAE connector port. you can plug a trickle charger or a solar panel directly to that port to charge without opening up the box with a lead acid battery. with the lithium ion battery i believe you have to have a special litthium charger and if using solar you may need a compatible charge controller.

Have you tested it with a charger yet,,,,, I would like to use both solar and a standard type ac charger. How would you do this? thank you

​@accurateexteriorsco you are correct with lithium batteries you need a different charger if you use the lead acid charger it will damage the battery. When using solar you must use a charge controller no matter what type battery you are charging.

@@KellyKE8MWQ It won't damage the lifepo4 to charge with an SLA charger, it just won't charge it all the way as they max out about 14v instead of 14.5v...

I'm running lead acid batteries and just use the 10 dollar Harbor Freight trickle charger. I cut off the clamps and soldered a cig lighter plug that I can plug into the gig lighter socket on the box. I do plan of getting a solar panel one day.
