I make the power boxes, for the RV community. Lots of us are off grid, for 6 months. So it’s nice to be able to charge your phone, run a couple lights, or even run a CPAP machine for the night. I made ours, and my friends, with solar charging capabilities.

For the one on the boat trailer, I always keep extra bulbs, a bit of wire and a roll of electric tape just to keep everything legal. Ya don't want to deal with the man if you might have had two beers with shore dinner after fishing.

After watching this a second time, I would recommend using a 3 gallon bucket for your cast nets, versus a sealed ammo can. Because a cast net, gets wet and fish slimmed up, by the end of the day. Get a 3 / 5 gallon bucket. Drill some drain holes in it. At the end of the day, you can wash off the net with some soap and water, and let it drain and dry in its own bucket. Then its clean, dry, and NOT Stanky! And ready for the next big adventure! And you can always get a lid for the bucket, to keep the net stored, but the holes allow for dry air circulation.

I love power supply box especially since i have a USB flashlight, I would add some extra wire and bolts on the outside of the power box to charge it that way I never have to remove the battery just add a vent for heat and vapor, I don't have need for a grill, but that was a bad ass hack. The tool box idea on the trailer is a new addition coming soon, keeping bearings, or whatever.

For bank fishin'.. instead of wacky noodles, add another battery. (connect in parallel) you could also put your charger in there and a plug-in so when you get home from slaying the fishys, before you get the knife out just plug it in and your ready to go for the next time. Also great for smaller boats for lights and accessories. and you can use the extra space for smaller items that you need water-proof. Thanks for the cool vids! SK.

Tip #8 I used a cheap waterproof plastic ammo can to straighten out my sons scout troops first aid kit(fancy boo boo kit) they use. Because most first aid kits come cheap plastic cases that aren't water proof or durable as even a cheap plastic ammo box. But I have a larger ammo style plastic box for misc gear like yours, but with a few other things like pencils, paper, zip ties, playing cards, etc in my truck for camping or fishing trips. Its truly amazing the variety of ammo style cans/boxes out there.

Most those plastic boxes aren't sealed to start with,not like the steel cans,so you don't need any silicone. Some are though so look in the lid for a rubber seal,if it's there you can add silicone to the plugs/switch.

Good suggestions! I advocate for a boat box for tools, one for First Aid, one for survival food, one for survival supplies and tools, one for electronics. I use my ammo cans to store ammo in. Hack #11: Put strips of colored masking tape on the top and across the front, under the latch, enough tape to be able to write on with a felt tip marker, and read easily. That way, no matter how you store the boxes you can see what's inside that can and where the can you need is in the stack. This isn't permanent, so you can re-purpose the cans as you need to. Your supply of X dwindles down you can move X to a smaller box, relabel and reuse the boxes. Good channel.

That's an excellent notion. One of those little Harbor Freight 1½ Watt Solar Panels for under $20 nowadays will really do the trick for keeping up a good maintenance charge. I recently tested my little sailboat's elderly standard lead acid house battery with a multi-meter. It's had no other charge in years, and it was tip-top. The panel is nicely weatherproof. My panel's been sitting outside on the bow in all weathers. Unlike higher wattage panels these little 1½ Watters are just the right amount of "gutless" and need no special charge controller to keep them from over-charging or "cooking" the battery. Just set and forget. It would take a few days to bring up a really dead or discharged battery, assuming it could even still take a charge, but it'll top up or maintain one just fine for years and years. The panel comes with alligator clamps or a cigarette lighter style plug. HF also sells a 'Solar Panel Connection Kit' for under $20 that contains a sort of extension cord and other useful doodads in case you have a battery in a shed or garage you want to keep happy, like in a motorcycle, riding mower or similar.

Great video Keith! It's causing me to think of some other possibilities for the metal ammo boxes. 1. Given you made a grill, I bet you could also make a mini meat/cheese smoker box, or a portable solar oven. 2. A portable heater fueled by candle or oil lamps. 3. Portable boombox for your tunes, basically a speaker box that runs off your cell phone's music list and has a battery inside of it like one of your builds has in it. 4. A mini cold box to keep a few bottles of beer chilled. 5. A Jaw Harp case, always playing the jaw harp. 6. Portable fondue set with a built in burner and several segmented areas for cheese and chocolate. 7. A movie projector, there's all sorts of ways to do something like this. 8. A model rocket launcher (platform, guide wire, battery, switch, motor storage, etc.). 9. Camping Food Prep Station - cutting board, knife holder, cheese grater, holds your spices, oils, etc. 10. Mini Air compressor/air pump. 11. A crazy sort of weapon such as a flame thrower, catapult, cross-bow, evil death ray, or maybe the perfect mouse trap? 12. Water filtration system and/or distiller. 13. First-Aid Box - you might have mentioned it. There's probably a million things you do make with metal and plastic ammo boxes.

Bought a four position gauge set up and followed pretty close to everything you did. Turned out pretty cool. The fourth switch was the built in on off switch, so I don't have to "un-plug" the battery wire every time. Installed the Kayak battery and used the pool noodles to fill in the spaces to prevent sliding of the battery. I also made the pool noodle catfish PCP pipe floats. Cool stuff. On to the cork floats for my favorite fishing hat and possibly crappie casting floats.

So the 4 position gauge was off of Amazon I'm thinking. I have zero experience with power stuff. My question is probably goofy..1- You had to buy maybe a toggle switch & another red & blue wire for the extra station? 2- where do I hook up the onoff switch to kill all of it at once. 3- Would this Kayak battery power a small TV for 4 hours as an example? 4- Are these Kayak batteries usually Nikel Cadmium, Lithium or otherwise? Thank you in advance if you find the time. I asked a lot so I understand if you don't . Linda
@stunick15732 жыл бұрын
@@lindacasey5016 Hi, first you don't need extra wires, just use the ones that come with the 4 switch. I replaced the fourth switch with the power switch, but I still pull one leed wire off the battery when transporting, just to be sure the power switch doesn't get bumped. I keep the small charger inside the ammo box, there's room, I do take it out when on the boat as it will bounce in the waves, another little extra caution. 2nd the small TV, all I can say is maybe. Would depend on amp draw and what you are using for the power inverter. These are milli amps, you may want a full sized battery and suitable power inverter for a TV. 3rd I just went with the one Fishing Stuff used, it was one of the better priced for size and my needs. Straight off Amazon all of it. Note those switch all of them, are just single units, and a plastic retaining screw holds them from behind. Its as simple as sliding off the switch you want to replace and slide in the one you want, also you can change the configuration of which switch goes where to your liking.
@jwalters90892 жыл бұрын
I made a battery box a few years ago with a cigarette lighter socket so I can run my 12v inflator in the tent as well as charge phones. I used a larger 12 amp battery that has about 2 times the stored energy as these 7 amp batteries plus it doesn’t require all the pool noodle to keep it from moving around.
@FishinNStuff2 жыл бұрын
That's awesome , I would be really cool with a lithium battery . One of the the reasons I used the kayak battery is because of the weight . Adding weight is always a bad thing for kayaks or boats but don't make a difference camping , and would be better the way you did it

Great video on the "hacks" er... alternative uses of ammo cans. A couple of tips on cutting thick aluminum sheet, a circular saw with a carbide blade will cut aluminum as easy as plywood (wear PPE) and if you have to bend the aluminum to keep it from breaking make a mark with a sharpie pen where you want the bend to be, heat the sheet with a torch (regular propane works well) until the sharpie line disappears then let the part cool down and it will bend easily without breaking.

I made one of those portable chargers too in a plastic ammo box. But I cut a piece of 1/8" plywood that fits down into that lip around the top. Then mounted my sockets on the plywood. That way when it is not in use the sockets are protected.

You should put a battery tender where you put the pool noodle for easy recharging

No need to,the cig plug will let you plug it into a charger.The 2 chargers I bought had SAE ends ( 18:15 ) and multiple connectors,one was a male cig plug.I just plug them in to recharge. Tip,the 2 chargers I bought needed a SAE adapter that reversed polarity because the company made it reversed from what everything else is...so you would have to buy their products.

There are small lithium batteries that are either less weight or more capacity, for the size. Cool stuff.
@projectknifehand3 жыл бұрын
Probably 8 times the price too. Lithium is expensive. Much better though, you got that part right.

Lithium is great and they are expensive. But coming down all the time . We are using in our phones flash lights and drills . Pretty dim there won't be anything else

@@FishinNStuff - Yep, the price of lithium batteries is becoming more competitive all the time. Actually, when you look at the long-term cost, lithium can make a lot of sense, especially when you consider you can draw them down a lot further without damaging them, like you do with lead-acid batteries.
@jasonbroom71473 жыл бұрын
@@projectknifehand Closer to 3 times the price, but you get half the weight, twice the usable capacity, and 4 to 8 times as many charge cycles.
@projectknifehand3 жыл бұрын
@@jasonbroom7147 he linked and uses a 16 dollar battery. You have a link for a lithium that size (similar capacity) for 48 bucks? Otherwise it's at least 5 times the price. So sorry...not 8. But a lot more damn expensive. I didnt account for my sarcasm lol.
