I’ve used Raid ant baits twice now, and both times, they killed the entire colony. It takes awhile, though. About a week. You gotta stay patient. Also, the Raid baits work best if you place all four of them (four baits come in a box) directly outside the entryway to the colony…so you have to find that first. When you do, place them at the “front door” in a row, and over time, the ants WILL find it and carry the food back to the entire colony. I’ve come back after a week, and no more sign of ants. When I cut the tops off the baits, usually 2-3 of the baits were completely empty, and the other 3-4 were halfway eaten. So, it does work. Raid baits are basically a mixture of peanut butter, flour, and 5% boric acid.

I've tried Terro and Raid. If you want to see ants take the bait, get the Terro liquid. You'll see them on there like crazy, but the colony never dies. You might see them disappear for a few day, but they always come back. With Raid, you almost never see an ant enter the trap, but if you wait about a week, they'll disappear. Once they're gone, they're gone for the year.. For whatever reason, they'll reappear the following year. With Terro, I feel like I'm just feeding the colony.

I learned about Tero growing up decades ago. It used to literally have arsenic in it! But the liquid drops IMO are still the way to go. Inside, just cut up a paper product something like index cards, or file folders into 1-2" squareish shapes and put a few drops on them and place them around. Ants love this stuff and when they hit it. And it's far more economical than the traps, and as this video shows, effective.

I have been using Terro for five years on my patio next to my sliding glass door. I put drops of Terro on a CD and place it in the area where the ants come in to our living room. The ants are attracted to the Terro and eat it but it doesn’t seem to kill the colony because every morning there are more out there eating the Terro. It’s like they have been coming for the buffet daily for years. The only reason I use it is because as long as they have the Terro to eat, it keeps them out of my living room. One tip I can share is that if you have a trail of ants in your house Simple Green kills them instantly.

Thanks for the post. Nice idea here, but I doubt you can really test these by placing them so close together; at least not for comparative purposes. A few reasons but the main one is that even the directions will tell you to place them many feet apart. Naturally, if a liquid is just sitting out, they are going to find that one first & just keep going back to that one. I'm actually came here to look for a tutorial on how to break the tab on a "Terro Liquid Bait Station"; the kind that are in the shape of a box/squarish that you adhere to the wall or cabinet. I got one and had to use a pliers to break it off. It left the bait sack (a capsule, sort of) inside the station but the hole to enter it is awfully small. I don't know if I broke it off unevenly or something or what, but I cannot see more than one ant at a time passing through it; doesn't make sense to me. Thanks again.

I had the same difficulty opening those plastic containers. They should be a lot easier to open! Also I'd like to know how dangerous the liquid is to human beings. What happens if you get a drop on your bare hands? I do realize I shouldn't lick the drop off but do I have to use anything special?
@hqhq4611 Жыл бұрын
@@craigreubens2738 The instructions on the Terro traps tell you to open the traps manually but I always cut them open with scissors. Most of these traps use Borax which is toxic to ants and it can be toxic to humans and animals in large doses. I don't think the Borax is super dangerous, certainly less so than other insecticides, but you should still wash your hands after handling, don't get it in your eyes, and don't ingest it.
